which drivers/software did y'all reinstall on SSD to get y400/500 working optimally?
just wanna identify which are bloatware.
links of drivers are welcome.

Ultra possible if without AA and tessellation for full hd. Fps average for D6 inbuilt benchmark around 25 fps. At high without AA and tessellation around 30 fps. Interestingly enough my gpu temp is only 65C when playing at high for 1.5 hours. At 720p you can increase about 30% of those fps.




Thanks for the reply. I contacted Lenovo and they say they have never seen such a problem before. The white coating corresponds to 3 streak-lines on the back vent. It is not everywhere as in they fall on 3 predetermined paths. Quite hard to take a photo as the lighting prevents the powder from being seen. The smell apparently is some sort of coating on the electronics. It'll go away after 1 month.

Time for me to shine on this V2 thread! Hi all! Lenovo y500 Gt750M SLI Variant (7 weeks) Owner here!

Wanna ask to all those who owned y400/y410/y500/y510 with GT750M, have u guys found any new drivers for this graphic card? I'm stuck on using 311.27 driver (provided in lenovo website).... I googled and saw that there's already a 319.17 driver for gefore gt750M, but it's only for Linux and FreeBSD

Someone suggested me on V1 Thread to try out 320.14 beta driver for gt740m for my lappy... is it ok? Anyone tried this and confirmed it's stable?

try to remove ur laptop and put it at a different place. see if the marks still appear.

also u dont have to take a sample of those dust. lenovo is not some CSI with fancy lab equipments.

2. Generic updaters = driver updates? If u mean that, then yes.. it is okay to download drivers from nvidia as they are considered manufacturer website for ur graphic card. Download from lenovo website are recommended if u did some OS downgrading on ur laptop... (doing this will cause all the original apps/software/drivers that's preinstalled from factory to be deleted.. So if u like some of the apps/software/drivers that came with ur laptop, u may dl it from lenovo official website)

other than heating, which could be eliminated through yearly maintenance or getting cooling pad like cooler master... are there any significant details i must know hehe~ would like to purchase one real soon...

Well, the new gt750m variant has new graphic card, so there's no new driver for it yet... performance is quite noob for some games, but for recently released Metro: Last Light, can run on high settings with no problem..

Also, the new variant of y500 (with geforce gt750m) has no wireless connection problem or the touchpad problem whatsoever (this problem occured on y500 with gt650m graphic card)

I think that's about it~ btw, the speaker ROARS!!! (To be honest, i kept mine at 38 only... Lower it a bit at night as at 38 it's quite loud already.. above 60 already like personal theather, 100 is (I never reached that volume... Afraid speaker might get spoiled)

Been owning this babe for almost a month now. If u need the Nvidia Optimus function (Improve battery life), then get y510... if not, y500 is your best bang for the bucks! Once I bought it, I never looked back again~

Btw, the keyboard red-backlit lights become dimmer faster if u leave it on highest brightness (set using Fn + Space Bar) while playing games until laptop overheat like mine.. >.<

encountered a problem just now, my camera wouldnt launch. no light up at all. tried Fn+Esc, lenovo easycamera wouldnt launch.

after checking forums, lenovo forums, it seems the camera is broken. it worked the first time i launched it a week ago, but now its not working.

after checking Device manager, Imaging devices, Lenovo Easycamera is GREYED OUT. Properties > camera is disconnected.

so conclusion is. the camera's wiring went crazy or it burnt. so now my lenovo will be off to the service centre

How is the screen on your Y500? Is it very reflective? Also, how is the touchpad? Is it unstable?

Went to lowyat today, ordered my GT750m[y500] Removable graphics for RM669, got a deal of RM650, will arrive in about 2 weeks time

wire burnt coz u gaming too much lol~ u finished metro and batman in a few weeks only! hahahaha

according to forum from US user of y510, optimus function only when SLI is disabled... means that if no external GC in ultrabay slot, then only optimus can function.. if external gc insert, then optimus disable, SLI enabled..

The screen is of course reflective, but i play in my living room.. The laptop screen is facing the windows, when i sit, i block the lights from window partially... the reflection is not so strong, but still hard to see during gaming... except if u play game with bright environment (like Skyrim during daytime) and u adjust ur screen brightness to 3-4 ticks away from max brightness.... all in all, the screen is quite reflective, but not too reflective until u cant see anything on ur screen...

Touchpad has no problem whatsoever, but i rarely used it... I use gaming mouse i bought for rm32

any news for the Y400 one? i am planning to get one too

Y400 he say will most likely not be available, as in [ in any country ] due to heating problems lol

need to take out ultrabay for optimus to function..? cannot just disable sli in nvidia control panel..

i feel been fooled

They advertised that Y400 also compatible to slot in ultrabay graphic card but now they doesn't want to make it happen?
