anyone hv any idea where to get y401p in malaysia?
*
Check it out in Lowyat plaza, digital mall or garage sales. Its selling around RM27xx bundle with Lenovo Dicota Backpack, 3 Yrs McAfee Internet Security E-card and 2 yrs warranty.
Suggest to upgrade warranty to 3 yrs onsite for RM165 or 3 yrs carry-in for RM70 with resellers.
Remember to check its local set as per guide in post#2 and avoid US set (AP set) to have peace of mind. icon_rolleyes.gif

Oh I see. By the way, I heard that Y510P local set no SSD? Because I bought mine and it shows there are 2 hard disk drives with 890GB and 24.9GB, is the 24.9GB SSB? and I checked my warranty status at Lenovo website it only has 1 year warranty but the PC seller told me it consists of 2 years warranty. Am I cheated by him?  sad.gif
*
Yup, official local set don't have SSD, refer to post#1 for local set details spec. It only have one hardisk and partition to 890GB and 24.9GB for one key recovery feature to restore the system to factory default.
In the warranty look up page in Lenovo site, if Location is Malaysia then is official local set. u can also refer to the guide in post#2 to identify local set.
u need to register on-line for 2 yrs warranty, else it default as 1 yr warranty. Refer post#1 for guide. smile.gif

One more recent case where local Lenovo rejected warranty support for US set (AP set) Y500 with 1 yr international warranty as reported belows. sweat.gif
The owner ask the seller to exchange/repair his newly bought laptop with faulty webcam but they ask him to buy a new webcam lol. doh.gif
The seller tell him got 1 yr international warranty but non-disclosure of no warranty support by local Lenovo. shakehead.gif
Thank god is just a minor faulty, if major hardware failure when needs 1 to 1 replacement. Then really sweat.gif

I ve updated the thread title to create awareness for the buyers. smile.gif

upgrade to 3 years mean get additional 1 year right?
what is the difference between OnSite and carry-in warranty?
*
Yup, total 3 yrs onsite warranty or carry-in warranty. smile.gif
Onsite warranty the technician will come to ur place to fix the laptop issues and less hassle. rclxms.gif
Carry-in warranty needs to bring/collect it from service centre by urself.

They provide good service for onsite but inconsistent service depending on SC for carry-in.

Hi, Im interested to get an ssd for my y410p so that i can use hdd+ssd.

May I know what type of caddy can i get? is there a different, special type of caddy for y410p? or can i just use the normal universal 9.5mm caddy bay?

Also, how can i install win8 on the ssd? do i just download the iso and perform a fresh install? what about the key?
*
u can use 9.5mm compatible caddy bay for Y410p. make sure its compatible so that the bezel can fit nicely to it. smile.gif
u need to remove bezel from DVDrom and fit it to caddy bay. Look at the pics in chinese site how they DIY. icon_rolleyes.gif

Erm, what do you mean by compatible? Is there a special bay for y410p other than the normal universal caddy bay? For example, the y480/580 can just use a normal caddy bay to replace a dvd drive with hdd/ssd.
*
Read here: smile.gif
QUOTE(storm88 @ Jul 31 2013, 11:21 PM)
yes we can use 9.5mm caddy. just unscrew some plastic part frmo the dvd and screw it onto the caddy bay will do.

p/s: not any Caddy bay able to mount as there is some caddy bay doesn't has the right screw hold to mount the lock mechanism of the laptop

u can ask the pro users in the dedicated thread. many of them have done it. smile.gif
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2796033
iirc, u can do a clean install of W8 in SSD since W8 key is in bios, but u will loose the one key recovery feature. Do double check with them. icon_rolleyes.gif

Get the local set with 2 yrs limited international warranty and check whether it also cover the country u visited. u can add normal 2.5" SATA SSD for Y510p/Y410p. smile.gif

Remove the bloatware, set the page file to zero or minimal if sufficient RAM.
