Interested in the Lenovo Y510P. any idea where can i get it around PJ & KL Area?(Upcoming PC Fair @ Mid Valley got sale?)

Btw i also prefer to use windows 7, any chance/way i can get win 7 instead?
*
u can get in Lowyat plaza. Make sure u get the official local set as in post#1 and avoid the oversea set (AP set) to save the headache. smile.gif

u can downgrade to Win7 if u know how to install OS.

it is possible to install msata ssd into 510p?

and can i set the msata as the booting disk and i want to install window 7 into the msata while the ori window 8 just in my hardisk
*
u can only replace the HDD with normal 2.5" SATA SSD for Y510p. If want to add mSATA SSD, get Y500. smile.gif

Yup, EOL-ed, there might be some balance stock left if u search hard enough. laugh.gif
Better get Y510p with Nvidia optimus support and add normal SATA SSD. Swap HDD in compatible caddy bay with Dvdrom or use it as external drive. brows.gif

y500 dont have optimus support ? smile.gif I thought Y500 is also hotswappable? recommend me some seller selling the compatible caddy bar. Is the caddy bay same like those used to swap the optical drive (Y500 Removable HDD F451)  blink.gif

actually wat is the major different between that two modal besides older processor  sweat.gif

BTW Y500 have msata port but Y510P dont have?
*
Y510p vs Y500 smile.gif
Haswell i7-4700MQ vs 3630QM
Nvidia optimus(longer battery runtime & lower temp) vs no optimus support (shorter battery runtime & higher temp)
no mSATA port vs mSATA port

u can also consider Y410p at lower resolution 1366x768 with NGFF m2 port, but 42mm m2 SSD capacity is limited and is too new and hard to find. Easier way is to replace HDD with normal 2.5" SATA SSD also. biggrin.gif

Its not an issue for Y510p, still can use the normal 2.5" SATA SSD with bigger capacity for OS. smile.gif
Though we miss the unpopular m2 SSD for cache.

Anyone know the price for y400 and y410?
And what is DOS for y400, it was cheaper than the one with Win8.
Thanks in advance. smile.gif
*
Check post#1 for retail price and nego with sellers to discount around RM1xx.
Y400/DOS come without OS and u need to install Win8 urself. Its the best bang of buck model for limited budget gamers. Pls check carefully and get official local set to have peace of mind. smile.gif

dear all,

how to install nvidia optimus , i tried couple of ways but cant ?
*
Which model are u using?
If Y500 then no optimus support, only Y510p with optimus support. smile.gif

Y510p SLI can setup to:
- either single gpu mode with optimus support for mobility
remove battery then remove ultrabay gpu gently (dont break the plastic holder), swap in DVDrom if needed, put back battery and use 120w adapter, install Intel HD4600 drivers.
Device manager & gpuz should show GT750m & Intel HD as in pic.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

- or dual gpus mode without optimus support for performance boost
repeat above steps to swap in ultrabay gpu and use 170W adapter, enable SLI in Nvidia control panel.
Device manager & gpuz show two GT750m.

Also refer guide quoted below to maximize ur battery life or performance. smile.gif

hi guys hows the sli work? I heard that it needs to update drivers regularly to give best performance. is it true?
*
SLI is drivers dependancy, u can easily auto upgrade the drivers with GeForce experience to boost performance and gain additional SLI support for games.

but the performance gains a little only right?
*
Its significant gains since SLI is drivers dependency. Sometime it can be very significant gains in SLI gaming. brows.gif
u can read the new drivers release notes for more details. smile.gif

Quoted from notebookcheck:
"Since the performance of dual-GPU systems depend a lot on the drivers, it is advisable to update them every few weeks or months. If we had not updated from version 311.41 to version 320.49, some of the games we tested would have run considerably slower. "

guys, is there any big different between msata and normal ssd?planning to get 1 for my y500

No noticeable gains between them.
Get mSATA SSD if u wish to retain the ODD, else needs to sacrifice ODD with normal SATA SSD. smile.gif
