4.9GHz frequent bsod during gaming, 5.0Ghz can boot into window and do some browsing only.
First, I advice you to update BIOS to F5 (and Owi observation). Your DC has similar voltage as my.What is batch number? Btw, fast bench....i7-4790K @ 5.0 GHz ,DDR3-2800 SPI32M Attached thumbnail(s)

I think arround 1.45V will be OK. Edit: Just fast test with original IBT 2.54 and LinX 0.6.5 @ 4.7GHz. LinX is hotter 4C (has newer Linpack) This post has been edited by stasio: Jul 8 2014, 10:46 AM Attached thumbnail(s)

QUOTE(owikh84 @ Jul 8 2014, 07:03 AM) Your GFlops look low, should be getting 120+ GFLops. Please use the LinX from front page and Win7 SP1/ Win8. stasio's GFlopsIs that related to memory timing? I'll retest again later tonight. QUOTE(stasio @ Jul 8 2014, 09:42 AM) First, I advice you to update BIOS to F5 (and Owi observation). Your DC has similar voltage as my.What is batch number? That IBT you used doesn't have AVX library to utilize the feature that comes with the 4790K.

Stasio Think its ure z97 board rather than a cpu issue.
Hmm ure 5ghz sp32m is like close to a 4.5ghz sp32m.
Mem subtiming etc??

QUOTE(stasio @ Jul 8 2014, 09:36 PM) generally a lot of quick benches out there on z97.. all slower the z87. but i dont think its a cpu thing but rather a mobo bios thing.. slower wprime.. one guy posted in ocn his 5ghz.. thats like my 4.7ghz. way lower 3dmark physx etc... are we seeing a another foxconn mars magic here. i tried as of today 3 cpus. all can bench 4.7ghz @ 1.225v. None will do 4.8ghz wprime 1024. This post has been edited by cstkl1: Jul 8 2014, 11:32 PM

QUOTE(owikh84 @ Jul 8 2014, 02:34 PM) Nope. That IBT you used doesn't have AVX library to utilize the feature that comes with the 4790K. Solve the issue by installing sp1 on win7. Now ibt gflops pretty much the same as what you guys posted. Now linx run throw 101&124 bsod @ 4.8Ghz (vcore range from 1.26~1.41) temp hit 99~ 100c in 2 sec, it seems like corsair h105 unable to keep up with the heat generated and also random power cut off/trip from the corsair psu. Ibt stable at 4.8ghz by feeding 1.26~1.27 vcore. But temp running dangerously high @80~98c for a water cooled cpu.

i7-4790K @ 5Ghz test. Prime95 wiht avx support - small FFT run , throttle down speed as it reach 100c within few sec. Super pi single thread test ok but it's meaning less as cpu utilization didn't even hit 100%. IBT crash, Linx crash. funny thing is, I could now play diablo 3 ros @ 5ghz without any problem ! I think the culprit could be AVX instruction screwing up thing by over volting the cpu during benches with avx instruction support such as IBT, prime95 and linx. pic as below running

QUOTE(owikh84 @ Jul 11 2014, 01:38 PM) Prime95 & LinX are badly coded like Watch Dog game? lol i'm not a avid gamer, just some casual t5-t6 run in ROS with my buddies. Most of the time I'll be using photoshop and some browsing. Anyway I'm not saying it's badly coded from info I gathered around oc forum, most people have issue with stress software such as ibt/linpack/prime v27 or later as these stress software throw unrealistic avx testing on the CPU which cause vcore and temp spike which lead to system crash. I have yet to see any 5g screenie of i7-4790k which is linx or ibt stable. mostly only super pi This post has been edited by nicotine: Jul 11 2014, 02:54 PM
