Just bought a system with i7-4790k last nite... just wondering is it necessary to get a aftermarket cooler ?

Cpu temp reading hitting 100c when running prime95. * no overclock and stock intel cooler.

i7-4790K @ 4.8 GHz.

4.9GHz frequent bsod during gaming, 5.0Ghz can boot into window and do some browsing only.

Btw. Now its stable at 4.8g @ 1.26 vcore... overclocking seems to be very complicated these day... my last system was a soc 939.

Solve the issue by installing sp1 on win7. Now ibt gflops pretty much the same as what you guys posted.

Now linx run throw 101&124 bsod @ 4.8Ghz (vcore range from 1.26~1.41) temp hit 99~ 100c in 2 sec, it seems like corsair h105 unable to keep up with the heat generated and also random power cut off/trip from the corsair psu.

Ibt stable at 4.8ghz by feeding 1.26~1.27 vcore. But temp running dangerously high @80~98c for a water cooled cpu.

i7-4790K @ 5Ghz test.

Prime95 wiht avx support - small FFT run , throttle down speed as it reach 100c within few sec. Super pi single thread test ok but it's meaning less as cpu utilization didn't even hit 100%. IBT crash, Linx crash. funny thing is, I could now play diablo 3 ros @ 5ghz without any problem !

I think the culprit could be AVX instruction screwing up thing by over volting the cpu during benches with avx instruction support such as IBT, prime95 and linx.

lol i'm not a avid gamer, just some casual t5-t6 run in ROS with my buddies. Most of the time I'll be using photoshop and some browsing.

Anyway I'm not saying it's badly coded from info I gathered around oc forum, most people have issue with stress software such as ibt/linpack/prime v27 or later as these stress software throw unrealistic avx testing on the CPU which cause vcore and temp spike which lead to system crash.

I have yet to see any 5g screenie of i7-4790k which is linx or ibt stable. mostly only super pi

Just wondering.. you guys use offset or fixed vcore method for 24/7 usage?
I'm planning to get at least 4.7g or 4.8g for 24/7 use. I don't really want to manually feed 1.25-1.27v static vcore for a prolonged period as it might just kill the proc prematurely.

any ideas ?

Was runing Vcin/vrin at 1.98v @ 4.7ghz. Did a quick test, IBT stable @ 1.6v vrin, Gonna further test later. Temperature wise, there's no dramatic changes, still at high 90c range when doing IBT stress run.

i7-4790k @ 4.7ghz Vcore 1.205v / Vrin 1.6v / Vring 1.1v

looks pretty normal if you ran those stress test. Especially when you ran Prime which support avx instruction.

My i7 4790k@4.7Ghz/ 1.207vcore hit 99c within few second when running IBT/prime 95 and radiator gets real warm quickly.

For real world... just test it with your favorite games, temp shouldn't go over 60c for a non oc proc which is cooled by aio.

I'm getting under 53c running d3ros. Btw i'm using corsair H105.

I'm using hwinfo64 v4.4 to monitor my temp and msi after burner for gpu.
