it's a unbenchmarked internal 'foundation'......don't expect too much......

trying to get into medicine elsewhere with it will be difficult......

getting into other allied health courses like physiotherapy, nursing, lab technology etc should be possible....

a relative who got 11A's in spm did poorly in aimst foundation, failed to get a place, and was not accepted anywhere else, except russia........none of the other med schools recognise the foundation.........
*
That's the reason why i said AIMST's foundation should be scraped.

not entirely sure.....said he didn't like the atmosphere, the course......he was certainly a bright student in school.......been straight a's student, spm 9a1, 2a2 failed to get jpa scholarship.....

parents have limited finances, decided not to repeat a proper pre-u, would not have afforded imu or pmc anyway, so opted for physiotherapy instead at a ipts twinned with a 3rd tier oz uni......i think he would make a very good physiotherapist, enjoying the course now.......

case in point here, he would have been more qualified to enter medical school than a lot of others with more money........imagine taking in people with ter<80.........

i think they may have been mislead by promises of assured place in aimst......was a very sudden decision.......never asked me for my opinion......

just came back from visitations.......

it sounds like he had a rough time there.......stayed at the hostel with a bunch of indians......keeps stealing his food, lost his h/p twice while sleeping......bullied........

i can quite confidently predict that he would have got decent ter if he had gone to a proper pre-u like sam........

but it's all water under the bridge.......he's happy where he is now...

Common in shared student accommodation. Even in angmoh countries. You just have to learn how to deal with it.

I have a cousin who is did his foundation and is doing mbbs in MMMC.

By the way, if u think it is unbenchmarked ... I got a place in Uni Melbourne for Biomolecular Engineering with that... just decided my tastes lie in mbbs.

I hope people do their research rite.
Its the grades that matter.

And anywhere in the world, you will need to adjust and adapt to the environment to do well. If your housemates are problematic, move out.
Blaming your performance on external factors is not the most smartest thing in the world. Its your life, you have got to take it in your hands.

Then you are very lucky. It had happened to me and to my friends as well. Usually just the minor stuff like milk or something. Different university, different accommodation. So dependent on your lucky as to whom you ended up with sharing the flat.

In fact, I have even seen university officially advising students not to steal others food. So I guess it must be pretty common.

one can pretty much get into any other courses with any pre-u qualification......uec included....education is a business now.....the problem is how to translate the grades, and how reliable it is.....non-critical courses, they will fill as many as possible.......

medicine is different, for these 1st world.....they are much more careful, as many of these international students will stay back and treat them.......

i am telling it as i hear it.......

The 1st world treats you as 'spare tires". When they needed you, they let you work in their country. When they don't need you, they kick you out as soon as you graduate or not long after that. And all these while, they make money off you and laughing all the way to their banks. And there is nothing you can do.

What choice do they have short of go start their own medical school? Only feasible if you have someone like Bill Gates or Warren Buffet as dad. This is especially true for those non-"son of the soil".

Truth be told, if we are angmoh, we will do the same. That's reality.

i think you miss the point.......as of this point, there are enough doctor training capacity for msia's ongoing needs.......

yes, there is some maldistribution........

but people are willing to pay to go to these places for their education (medicine or otherwise) because it is a 'way out' for many of them.......

ie they are willing participants of the brain drain.......

it's of course a chance, policies changes, like in uk now......but surprisingly, that has not reduce the numbers going there......

hope is stronger than fear.......

I suppose biomolecular engineering is not so good then for some people.
Uni melbourne (a few years back) was ranked in the top 20.

Needless to say, I can't help people who put up racist comments however much or less they implied it.

You know my lecturer puts this quote "Most people are as happy as their minds make up to be".
Well at least the world i live in is less bitter.

if you go look at the ter cutoffs for non-critical courses in melb u, you will understand what i mean....

i should add that in the new melbourne model, many of these new 3 year courses are generic courses leading to another 2 years masters, which is then accorded professional status.........i am not sure when they will phase out the old 4 years engineering courses..........they have already phased out undergraduate medicine and dentistry, it's post graduate now........

even under the old 4 year professional programme, guaranteed entry for internatonal students is a low ter 85 or a-levels bcc.......

for the last batch of undergraduate entry medicine last year, the ter cut off was 99.65.......

i know what i am taking about....... smile.gif

Added on January 29, 2009, 11:01 pmhmmmmm.....browsing through, the main (theoritically, one can use any 1st degree for entry) pathway into medicine, ie bachelor of biomedicine, has a relatively high ter cutoff of 95......

addendum.......2009 will be the last intake of undergraduate entry for dentistry........
