So you just need to pay one time fee for an ATM card from Bank Rakyat, a very good deal.
I think I should get one also.
Thanks for sharing.  notworthy.gif

I am thinking to put all my matured FD into OCBC 3 months 4.5% FD (bundled with Smart savers) before it ends next week.
Just to give it a last shot...  bruce.gif

Also with the ATM card, you can set-up online account and do fund transfer (for the monthly interest). Last time you have asked about this, right ?

I have found the GIRO transfer to be very useful for the monthly interest from BR. Especially with the 10cent fee. Instead of traveling to the branch or even use ATM card to withdraw the fund.

There no such thing as 1 time fee for ATM.
Official reply from bank rakyat
Sorry, we are not provided a free annual fee charges for an ATM card at Bank Rakyat. We will charge every RM 8.00 every year.

Ha ha, so I should be happy with the CIMB 5.2% every 3 months. But it is for 10 years !!!
*
goat, reading your posts on this cimb frind thing, i have the same one.
bad news is it is 10 yrs.
good news is 5.2% beats the shit out of everything else! tongue.gif
the other good news is unofficially, cimb tells u if u need to, they will offfer u od at a lower interest, at least until they exercise the call.
u r rite... the one before it was higher at 5.5%, if i remember correctly.
after that, it got lower.
the thing is it is now into 1.5yrs, not called yet whereas all others before it have been called.
i expect it to be called in nov, soon. then from 5.2% -> 3.6% uob? laugh.gif

boom, just a quick browse, i think hat ocbc frnid is similar as the cimb ones but lower interest.

cherroy, agree frnid is not fd. but is there a thread on frnid? i seached for it, nothing. not sure if it's because it's frowned upon as i remember reading a couple of negative comments on it...?

maybe boom can start a new thread then. i think frnid is fine product as long as u know wat u r in for.

Looks like we're all briefed on the same product, lol...mine's same as yours, and it's hard to understand through the phone, that's why I thought of asking when I see the RM in person. But looks like this 5 years commitment is not as worry-free as your BR's 5 year FD, so I guess you're not going for it, yes?
*
Ha.. ha.. biggrin.gif I guess I feel more comfortable to put money in BR rather FRNID (NOTE: FRNID is not FD).

Let's say if we place RM 100K at 3.5% p.a. for 1 year FD, assume if the 3.5% interest rate remains constant for the
next 4 years, the total compounded interest earned for total 5 years is RM 18,768.63.

Year-------- Year Interest------ Total Interest
1----------- $ 3,500.00 ------ $ 3,500.00
2----------- $ 3,622.50 ------ $ 7,122.50
3----------- $ 3,749.29 ------ $ 10,871.79
4----------- $ 3,880.51 ------ $ 14,752.30
5----------- $ 4,016.33 ------ $ 18,768.63

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here let's assume if we put RM 100K in OCBC FRNID at 4.5% p.a. for 5 years, if everything goes smoothly,
the total compounded interest earned for 5 years should not more than RM $ 24,618.19.

Year----- Year Interest-------- Total Interest
1-------- $ 4,500.00 -------- $ 4,500.00
2-------- $ 4,702.50 -------- $ 9,202.50
3-------- $ 4,914.11 -------- $ 14,116.61
4-------- $ 5,135.25 -------- $ 19,251.86
5-------- $ 5,366.33 -------- $ 24,618.19

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

RM 24,618.19 minus RM 18,768.63 = RM 5849.56 (an optimistic figure)

So the difference is RM 5849.56, but no guarantee will earn this figure... sweat.gif

Is it worth it to invest in OCBC FRNID for 5 years just to make additional RM 5849.56?
I think this depends on individual preference..

I used this site to calculate compound interest:
http://www.thecalculatorsite.com/finance/c...tcalculator.php

OCBC RM called me this afternoon to follow-up if I was interested in this product, he said OCBC has sold more than
RM 20 million of this FRNID.. whistling.gif

Yes, FRNID may be another good option to consider, but I always try to remind people that FRNID is never a FD.
Since it is FD thread, therefore need to highlight the issue, just in case many confuse about FRNID and taught it is similar to FD.

The real fact it is not, but a type of investment.

As even some also confuse about insurance saving plan as FD as well. doh.gif

I just got MY BR ATM card today.

The BR officer told me the ATM card is only charged for one time fee for RM 8.00,
no more annual fee.

My BR ATM card is printed with Kad COOP...

I guess maybe we have FD there, so we got special offer for one time fee for RM 8.00..? hmm.gif

Ha ha, we are in the same boat !! thumbup.gif I think the one before it was even higher than 5.5% but have to dig out old documents to check.

I think if they recalled it, it may be good as I think 10 years is too long. The CIMB BM also told me likely it will be recalled as I was hesitating on the 10 years term. Now knowing more about it from Cherroy, I will be happy if they terminate it earlier !! whistling.gif

For the new Klibor structured product that I received the info from banker.
5 years 4.5%, if do not exceed the threshold barrier

But I noticed another important line.
QUOTE
5 years Investment Horizon and the Bank has the right to early terminate the investment
whistling.gif

This is a big disadvantage clause (I experienced before)

Bank may terminate the product, when situation unfavourable. So no more good yield for investors further.

While when situation is unfavourable to investors, aka when investors get 0% due to shoot beyond threshold barrier, bank may let the product continue to run until mature. whistling.gif

Unless the termination clause is set according to certain condition, then may be fair.
But if termination is based on wish of the bank, then personally won't bother to look further.

I do not know the CIMB structured product, so I am not in position to comment.

But to commit a structured product that is 10 years tenure somehow I do feel a bit too long. Just my view.
5 years is already long enough, somemore x2, 10 years, means capital locked in for 10 years and no touch.

I am curious what is the difference in between Kad COOP and regular BR ATM card..?

I hope iRakyat online security system is up to date.
And we'd better change our password frequently.
I think there is pro and con to use ATM card and iRakyat online system, provided the online system is 100% secured.

We can use BR ATM machine to transfer fund (from RM 3K to RM 5K per day) to other banks on the same day, but it will charge RM 1.

Wah..hah.. check interest coming every 2 weeks.. thumbup.gif Really Steady...

I think not worth it becos we need 2 big IFs ie
1)The best scenario happens, KLIBOR does not move out.
2)The bank continue to pay and dont call back.

Structured product i had bad experience before , Bank always win, KILBOR within range, it can call back and you dont get that 4.5% for long.KLIBOR out of range, when they dont need to pay interest they will keep continuing till the very end, we lose.

HLB RM called to inform a new retail bond coming up soon with coupon rate about 5.5% pa, sounds good. Hope it is a real bank bond and not some UT or FRIND with much higher risk of not getting what is said.

Since our FD is not eFD, the risk on the account should be more on the SA cash. So long as I xfer it out every so often, then I am not worried about it. Their system has some problem (diff to log-in, slow etc) months ago, but recently seemed to be more stable. All the GIRO xfer done no issue so far. biggrin.gif

I won't change my password for this account frequently unless some issues comes up. Even my other online accounts, also the same. But I do agree that it is better to change the password regularly. biggrin.gif
