what if the upside potentially can be +40% ? hmm.gif

ie EPF is like 2.5% to 7% range
some riskier asset could be -15% to +40%?

or say 80% of ur wealth in EPF, whilst 20% in the risky asset?

same here. after covid, cut off all risky investments, clean shave off properties from portfolio.. happy with what is offered by kwsp and national bonds. 4.8% also happy... best part surprisingly desire to splurge also gone after covid vaccination, less interest in cars and expensive stuff

Bond, if held to maturity, is redeemable at par.

Coupon payment may have some upside as Ringgit going down the hill in long term.

When Ringgit is strong, Unker use EPF dividend for expenses.

When Ringgit is weak, Unker exchange those foreign currency at very good rates.

Coupon around 5% yield for long term bonds. Unker locked them down many years ago

i like this. Actually i am presently going 50% EPF, 30% stocks and 20% gold

30% stocks is further 60% dividend stocks, 20% growth and 20% gold miners.
The deal is dividend stocks gives consistently higher than EPF.
The 20% growth stocks gives probably approx 30 to 40% growth potential
And lastly, the gold miners gives 100 to 500% growth explosion. sweat.gif

All those portfolio mix is depending on individual age, risk appetite & investment objectives....

Those near to retiring age or already retired tend to be in safer investment mix...

Younger one more risk taking....

But what I trying to say... Whatever is your age profile.... EPF is must in your portfolio mix.... Because you can't go wrong with that.... Either 20% or 50% is your choice & decisions.... See how you adjust....

There are lots of variances/factors to consider here as you have pointed out.
One big one for me way back 15 years ago was the Runggit value or rather the depreciative weakness of our beloved currency.
i learnt many years ago that the currency of a country is like a share certificate of that nation.
It is a measure of the economic capability of the country.
If it's bad, i will go down relatively to other currencies and thus purchasing strength as we import lots of stuff for us.

So, i decided in 2002 to get into gold to hedge that and also in 2008/9 to get into SGD denominated assets to hedge against the Runggit due to the inability of this nation to resolve the RnR issues. And using SG stocks to create cashflows against the Runggit and not being stagnant.
In hindsight now, both gold and SG assets has done pretty well against the Runggit.

How do you define when Ringgit is strong or not? Like for eg now, is it strong or weak?

I plan to only withdraw the dividend for expenses once I FIRE or retired, while continue to build wealth via stocks (local and overseas).

Not sure about him but my way is like this :

1. If received USD when USD is, let's say usd 1= rm 4.1
2. Will consider it is good if usd 1 = rm 4.3 or more
3. If it is dropping below 4.1, consider it as bad. Will just keep it and treat it as a diversification in case RM becomes shit one day.

thanks to PM4, a common benchmark is 3.8. So I would say 3.8 to the dollar is neutral.

4.2 now is weak. 3.0 would be strong.

due to my portfolio positioning, I rather have 4.8 than 3.0. lol

Yes, initially I thought could qualify some some incentive match but no la, this will just be a gift to the wife. Given that, I'm not sure if there are any benefits to it vs just remaining the 2% in own account.

No benefits and cannot be stop until you divorce your wife or she passes away
But if she passes away and she nominated a plumber you also cannot fight in court as all her EPF money goes to the plumber

😂

Haha. But I really don't think she can nominate a plumber... If epf CS is doing their job.

I've asked before when I first nominated someone. Must be related somehow to the member...

Once you cut off from materialistic desires, you will find there is really not much need to have too much money. The more stuff i have, the more headache to manage. Less stuff=less headache. 😁
