Guys what happen if you don't have rm1m inside EPF when you retire? Can you still withdraw any amount you want?
*
No...Gov will take all your money if you don't reach RM1 mil at 55.....

laugh.gif

Just kidding.

@50yrs old: You can sapu all Account 2 (one off, cannot suka suka take RM100 every week).

@55yrs old: You can sapu all Acc 1 and Acc 2, can also withdraw as little by little, up to you. However, if you still contribute from 55 to 60, it will goes to a 3rd Akaun Emas, which you can't take out until you are 60.

@60yrs old: You can sapu all including Akaun Emas.

Our public healthcare is really good compared to many other countries out there... you will be surprised to hear foreigners saying this as in their own country... totally not as good as Malaysia and need to depend on expensive private healthcare...

RM 1 million needed for retirement in Malaysia 😁
*
I can tell you that RM1 mil is not enough even if you retire today. Much less 30 years from now.

money never enough lah. just make do with what u have.

I don't agree. There is an "enough" threshold. But it could be different for everyone. You just have to prioritize what is REALLY IMPORTANT to you. For example if you deem RM10k /mth is your target post retirement. Then, example you have RM 2.4 mil at 5% in EPF would give you this. Of course, this is just an example. You could have RM1 mil in EPF and other investment which can gives you the same desired returns etc.

If you don't set a target and works towards it, it will never be enough. And always ensure you have enough medical insurance coverage which is very important.

Of course, if you are 54 and only have 50k in EPF as networth, then really no need to retire...sweat.gif

Assuming epf gives 4%... you will get rm3k+ a bit monthly spending... by retirement age i don't expect anyone to have loan or debt anymore... that gives you about rm100 budget a day... and that is not enough? With that money which is tax free, you already have a monthly income more than a lot of ppl out there....
*
If you are living in KL, I would say RM5k is minimum hidup bermaruah. You also need to consider car maintenance, house maintenance, cukai pintu, cukai Tanah, condo maintenance fees, internet, electric as minimum basic into your calculations. 4 biji tyres is already RM1.2k now for a b segment car.
And if you have a few properties, need to pay more for the cukai pintu and Tanah.

So example, if you target 10k, when inflation hits, that 10k can still become RM5k 30 years later.

Btw, regarding 1mil saving and having 4-5% dividen yearly, one thing to remind, you are not using that 4-5% forever. When you are reaching, let's say 65 years old, you might start to make use of the dividen + some of the 1mil saving already, you won't be living till you are leaving this world and still don't touch that 1mil saving. And i believe, when you are getting older, you won't be still spending big amount of money into things that you usually would spend, examples, foods, traveling, etc due to health related issue.

1mil definitely can retire now, it just depends on your living style and whether you still have other commitments or not. Personally, i am aiming to be retired before 46 and have at least 4mil in saving and expecting averagely yearly 4% interest / dividends, at 13k per month to use. Once i reach 65, i will go all wild with the money and expect i will leave this world at 75 or max 85.
*
At 65, you already insap, leg pain, back pain, high BP, high cholesterol, heart problem. Got money also can't do much. Want to travel, also susah. Won't really need much money other than hospital fees, so make sure your medical insurance is enough..

Actually i did something similar to this spreadsheet to calculate how my retirement funds stands during certain ages....

but i found something incorrect for stagnant withrawal, when we're older, i dun think the consumption of funds will be stagnant with the initial sum (RM1 mil x 5% = RM 50k present values)... When we're older, we probably use less money and gradually the withdrawal sum will be lowered...

example average Normal Age 70 ppl as of today with 516k balance (based on this table), would they need to spend RM50k annually or RM 4.16k per month? At least for my parent at this age averagely spent less than RM3k
for 2 pax, and they're still serving a Perodua Alza of RM 800 per month...withdrawal of RM 93k equivalent to RM 7.75k per month, unless you dun have any medical insurance then.........
*
It could be true...but if health goes south, means more money would be needed to spend on food supplement and long term medications, which might not be covered by insurance.
