unfortunately, there is a bug in 04-30 version where the Keep Connection Alive script is pointing to a private IP address to check the WAN connection. If you've set "Enabled with Restart", it will continue to reboot every time the scheduled task run due to the private IP address is unreachable.

Here's a quick workaround until the bug has been rectified in the next release:
- Change the settings for Keep Connection Alive in Modem tab to Enabled or Disabled
- Add the this command without the double quotes in Scheduled Tasks under System tab. "*/5 * * * * /bin/ping -c 10 openwrt.org || reboot"
Latest update:
Please redownload the 04-30 version from the website, it has been replaced with a working firmware.

I see that many of you have a wrong impression about ROOter firmwares (namely Redback, BlackWidow and Huntsman) although Dairyman and Waroonga Farm have mentioned before. Note that it's a customized version of OpenWRT which optimize for 3G/4G usage. The only configuration you need to worry about for making 3G/4G connection is at the Modem tab (APN name, Username, Password, SIM PIN, Keep Connection Alive, DNS servers). You don't need to mess with the configurations in the Network tab 'cause whatever you do over there will be overwritten by a scheduled task.

And the Network Status at the Modem tab it's just informational, it doesn't affect your connection at all.

I hope we don't get confused with the original OpenWRT releases. To understand better about ROOter firmwares, please read information on this page - http://www.rfactory.org/OpenWRT/

So just leave the wan setting alone u mean? hmm.gif

OpenWRT.org provides only bare minimal firmware images which are really meant for advanced users to customize their own systems. It's not newbies friendly. It comes by default without LuCI web-interface, and USB 3G modems not working by default. You must know what you really want and capable of customizing it to cater to your needs.

Newbies should start with other properly configured firmware images, such as OpenWRT Attitude Adjustment 12.09-rc1 from openwrt-id.org, or ROOter firmware (which is for 3G/4G internet)

PS: All firmwares mentioned have some bugs. Use at your own risk! Gather enough information or asking around before flashing!!

Yes, there's no official support for TL-MR3420 v2.x from OpenWRT Attitude Adjustment 12.09 final yet! sad.gif

I'm now using an unofficial build. So far, I've found only 3 working images, other than the OpenWRT trunk snapshot (which is buggy, I can't get the USB working yet rclxub.gif )

Yup, just leave it alone.
I won't say there's no more disconnection. There will be as for any 3G connection you might come across, but the firmware will automatically reconnect it for you if it happens. It's either by restarting the network service or rebooting the router.

Ok guys.. i compiled a normal version of OpenWrt.
Both the Attitude Adjustment 12.09 and Barrier Breaker based on the r36349 source.
both images include needed package to run 3g modems using ppp.

MAKE SURE TO CHANGE THE MODEM DEVICE ON THE 3G-WAN INTERFACE PAGE TO YOUR PROPER DEVICE

PLEASE COMPARE THE MD5 HASH OF THE DOWNLOADED FILES WITH PROVIDED md5sums TO MAKE SURE YOUR DOWNLOADED BIN FILES IS NOT CORRUPTED

Barrier Breaker r36349

as i only have MR3420 and MR3020, i can only test on these two devices.. please give feedback for other models.. i didn't compile images for V2 router as i dont know if it is supported directly or if patches is needed in trunk..

Hi Guys,

As you already know, there is a new Hunstsman release available. rclxms.gif

The big ticket item in this release is bandwidth/usage monitoring. rclxm9.gif

Huntsman 2013-04-30 Keep Alive is working again. E173 and E1820 will be detected as PPP modems and should work correctly. Bandwidth Monitoring in all its glory is implemented. Some minor bug fixes and script enhancements. DDNS, Time Sync and RNDIS driver reinstated.
Note: There is a little bug with usage calculation in excess of 1Gb

http://www.rfactory.org/OpenWRT/

One problem that may be occurring with the ROOter software is that it unleashes the full speed capability of the modem. This is because the appropriate fast modem protocol is used by the ROOter, rather than PPP, which is used in standard OpenWRT and TPLINK firmware. The fast protocol causes maximum speed and maximum modem power consumption. For this reason the Turbo mod is discouraged, as additional power may be used.

The underlying problem here is that many routers appear to be incapable of providing enough power to support the new power hungry 3G DC HSPA+, 4G devices at full speed.

Some folk have experimented and found that turning off the wifi and using a LAN cable connection, can provide enough power for the modem.

The use of a Y-cable and an additional USB power supply or the use of a hub to power the modem are other ways of overcoming the router power deficiency problem.

PS Chuahcs79's modem should be good to go on this version. wink.gif
