here is some of my preliminary feedback
Result below is flash to E398 latest firmware + Tweaked 33TX Using Direct Plug in my Old PC USB2.0 port [attachmentid=3226912] result :   IDM : ( i take 2 shot so that to show it is not spike ) [attachmentid=3226915] [attachmentid=3226917] Now using E398 with TL-MR3420 V2 router : [attachmentid=3226929] Result:   IDM: [attachmentid=3226932] [attachmentid=3226933] Now using E398 with TL-MR3420 V1 router ( openwrt ) + SOya box : [attachmentid=3226934] Result:  IDM: [attachmentid=3226935] i even try to hang the E398 outdoor window but result is not as good as finding best spot indoor, Overall: loading websites confirm is Fibre Like connection,.. and yet stability ( without soya box or antenna ) is really way higher than E372 or ZTE MF680,.. temperature wise of course MDM9200 chipset is a bit warmer than MDM8200/MDM8220 chipset,.. RSSI wise without antenna /soya box in indoor signal is almost FULL,.. between -59~ -53dBm range speed wise, i did able to hit 18~19Mbps, but of course still in tweaking mode, not yet found perfect spot,.. will continue to tweak here and there,.. hope the post above helping any of you have doubt and helping the blacktubi out too This post has been edited by chuahcs79: Dec 26 2012, 06:06 PM |

if you guys think that E398 will give you a major speed boost ~ no, currently, it will only stabilise your current DC-HSPA+ and make you on READY MODE when Maxis decide to turn on the LTE switch, because by that time LTE modems will be sapu by all speed demons.

FYI to TS and all. I just collected the modem today. item received in good condition although the manuals are in german or smth lol. But it was no bother. Tested on friends router mr3040 (portable router). found that my ping reduced from 12xms usually now to 76ms around that figure. Webpage loading speed has increased substancially. I havent really tested on download and upload speed yet....(I'm no pro speed tester) juz check some webpage speedtest and also try downloads, if ok for me then happy lol.
Btw TS bro, i didnt not receive the panel antenna set c/w cable and connectors... I thought u gonna send together. When i went to poslaju and the gave me small package my heart broke abit, as i knew no antenna...... Hope u can pm me on the next package date ASAP.and kudos to TS (blacktubi)... this modem on my 1st day using has impressed me on its faster ping rate and signal capture stability... Too early to comment more... Will update yall after i get the panel antenna. CHEERS |

E398 is really strong in terms of signal..tested E398 + MR3420 v1.3, signal is 87% (without external antenna)..not bad..if E372/MF680, signal around 6X% to 7X%

E1552 ----> E173----------------------->E398 Here what i think about the modem Pros 1- Good speed Me when using E17 average 3mbps...but with E398, if peak hour with favourite tower can get 8mbps..without antenna if non favourite can get 6mbps.......when non peak hour....favourite tower..can hit 10-18 mbps download speed without antenna..non favourite..10-14mbps..So cool...also if use it everywhere in my house..average is 6mbps stable...:thumb: 2- Good Ping The ping with my favourite tower is 4X without antenna...and stable..if not my favourite tower..will get 5X-6X...when downloading...favourite tower..8X, non favor, 9X...when many people use..(hotspot), favor 9X, non favor 11X..without antenna 3- Great Internal Antenna As TS stated...this modem have 4 INTERNAL ANTENNA that really help me..from maxismum -83dbm..now can get that easily without put in higher place....the max can get right now is -71dbm absed on diagnostic...because MDMA still not supported. 4- Cool Design Nothing to describe...just look at photo already think want to grab it....when infront of your house.... 5- Rotatable Modem The rotatable really help to target nearest tower or want to blow up with fan as this modem quite hot CONS 1- Not Good Upload Speed Usually with E173 can get 1.7mbps easily.....but i thought this modem is too pwoerfull enough so i can get minimum 2.6mbps uplaod..but can get 1.8 stable that the review i have now...will do another later |

I tried 3 version of E398 before I start selling in. Used RM1K ++ to buy those 3 version of E398 and actually try it, slowly teardown them and compared it technically.
Maybe this is my dedication to this business to actually experience the modem before I start selling it. I want my customer to always get the best. I can just sell a usual E398 and provide 0 tech support.  Just look at the antenna, the difference is obvious compared to a usual E398, that's why when you use E398 U15 you get amazing consistency. Found this. The other difference is the frequency support.
Pic given of our modem sure use u15. The other telenor? U18 or what? Cant see clearly. Hua hua... Huawei E398 I dont care coz TS already stated that this modem is rebranded and the pic given is same with the actual one. Blacktubi is considered cheating if he use modem with huawei logo but the one you got with vadafone logo. this is my latest feng shui spot for my E398,..

Blacktubi selling good item...... Just test it with my brother with connectify..both watch vid 1080...and all clear..no buffer :thumb: ..and the ping only <200ms when buffer or downloading...the weird is...i always get only few mb with speedtest...but statistic 8mb.....without MDMA....my life miserable

When i use MF680/E372 with my Router, my signal max out at 48% but when i use this E398 with my Router , MR3420 my signal shoot up to 70%

To those who're using Asus RT-N66U router, I can confirm E398 is working in 3G/4G mode, with modem model set to Huawei-E372, "auto" won't work.
Peak hour speedtest: E398 + dual panel antenna, 2.5-5mbps range, IDM ~400KBps. I use to get 1.5-5mbps using supercharge E372 + 1 panel antenna. Definitely huge improvement from old days where I place my default E372 indoor, hardly getting any connection during peak hour (ping time out!).  |

finally did my setup and super long cable from blacktubi.
bought e398 & a 10m cable to setup my antenna up up at my house roof. although is a DC-HSPDA area. without antenna at good spot only max 6mbps - 9mbps the speed of download was so disappointing. Now when the antenna is up on top at the roof. finally i got the download speed of 1mb -1.5mbps (not constant due to 10 meter cable from roof to modem) using IDM.  Speedtest  Speedtest with antenna at roof   Very Satisfied with the modem & cable. Thanks blacktubi |

Just received mine
 A few days later than what i expected, but it was still pretty fast! =D (TS posted item on wednesday 8pm via PosLaju, arrived at doorstep 10am thursday XD )Missing aforementioned packaging though, the parcel arrived with the box inside containing the modem fell out of the holder, as the cellophane tape holding them was cut/broke. Theres a minor scratch on the Vodaphone logo but no biggie =3 Modem's working great on MR3420 V1! I am on a HSPA+ area with my speed consistently at 8~10Mbps or so. TS is a great person, answer question very well and very friendly (too friendly until so busy answering PM everyday XD - be patient when waiting for reply!) Would personally buy modem only from TS from now on! |

hi, i just received it, put it in my MR3420 v2 after flashed and put bin file and now it detects the modem.
but it only detects 2G (green light) when connect to my computer, also can only detect 2G. can help me? I changed to MF680 and everything works fine with HSDPA. |

i think it will not be on time for me to bring it outstation. stupid custom.
The custom delayed my item for 2 weeks, shipped on 14 December from US. Only on 3 january custom clearance and i was using the USPS International Express MAil (EMS equivalent). Even that was also after i lodged an official complaint with POSLAJU. |

blacktubi is definitely a very recommended seller.
order on friday evening, paid it on saturday, item sent on monday, item arrived (actually) on tuesday afternoon but since i was working then i could only collect it from my apartment management office this morning. this e398 works like a charm, i win the battle of tower locking in my office at tun perak area - KL, internet connection is smooth.. very reliable.. now i can receive and reply my email anytime. i can say that because previously i used my old timer huawei e169 paired with my so-so digi prepaid broadband plan and ended up with so many disconnection issues and so called "connected-but-cannot-browse" issues, later then i borrowed my friend sierra aircard usb 305 and still had the same issues but a bit lesser compared to my huawei e169. e398 also have greater signal reception compared to those previous two. two thumbs up blacktubi ! it is a very pleasant experience for me to have a deal with you, especially i am a foreigner and also a newcomer to this lowyat forum. |
