I know some of you invest directly into the sharemarket overseas or local and some of you invest in unit trust.

However I'm curious on investors who does both.
For those of you who have both, how would you benchmark unit trust performance against your own investment.
Do you consistently beat unit trust gains yearly or do you find it a mix performance? Do you find the extra effort monitoring your own investment worth it or do you find it easier to just dump into a unit trust fund.

I don't know if right now is the right time to invest small amount of money in any unit trust. I plan to invest around RM2,000-4,000 in UT for three to five years.

If you are not planning to top up from the 2000 - 4000K, then you should divided the 2 - 4K into 6 months - 1 year to invest monthly.. tongue.gif

Maybe invest min 5 years.. From my humble experience, if the fund you choose is not really "performing", 3 - 4 years you wont see much profit. If you lucky enough got a good fund, within 1 year you can see profit..

Hi! Newbie question here.

I have 500K eligible for withdrawal from EPF 55-year pension. No intention of using this fund.

Should I leave it in EPF, which offer better return compared to bank FD?
Or any suggestion how I should invest it to get better return than EPF dividend?

Thanks.

Why do you want to remove from epf? If the fund didn't perform well, what are you going to do? Your epf earning could be reduced.

It is just an option whether I should withdraw ALL from EPF (55-years old withdrawal) & put my money elsewhere to generate better return in comparison to EPF 6.75% dividend.

Unless there are other investment vehicle that can out-perform the 6.75% yearly dividend, otherwise I would prefer to leave my money in EPF.

If you are confident that you are able to get >epf, please do so. But make sure you have some kind of backup.

However most people who withdraw completely will regret it later in life due to market crashing, u unit trust not performing or some other stuff

Thank you for the reference link.

After reading thro' most of the postings, I still think it is more advisable to leave my $$$ in EPF even though I am eligible for 100% withdrawal. I was actually looking for alternative investment that can out-perform EPF dividend on short-term yearly basis, just like 12-months FD placement.

UT may be applicable to those who are currently STILL under employment where their investment could stretch long term 10 yrs to 20 yrs. But that is not my case as I am a pensioner already.

Thanks to all for your comments/suggestions!

U dont need to dump all 500k into UT funds sweat.gif
Perhaps 50k or maybe 100k first since u arent going to use it. There are a lot of funds that easily outperform epf's return. It doesnt take such a long term like 10 years. A top UT fund like KGF already give me return of 10% in only 8 months.
