oh ok i thought the key word was SWITCH, which would normally suggest choosing something to replace a previous option...

"ppl who have worn rolexes and omegas SWITCH and make orients (and seikos) to be their everyday watch"

i fail to see the logic to buy a Rolex and keep it in the safe and wear an Orient Mako as a beater watch.

Wearing the Rolex, and having it accompany you in your life and timing every precious second the past, that's the whole idea isn't it? Not having such a masterpiece sit in the safe.

Its meant to tell time, not kept in a safe..that's just me lah.

My watch have battle scars, well worn, but each scar is inflicted by me, making it truly mine. If its kept in the safe, well, its just like a new watch that has not been worn, and what is that for? Museum piece?

QUOTE(chopin @ Nov 8 2012, 04:37 PM)
well, if $$$ is not a problem for you, take any swiss big names like omega seamaster or rolex sub, it won't be wrong, they are legends, some of them can even dive to 600m! but for everyday folks like us, orient mako is THE thing, and how often would you dive to below 200M?  biggrin.gif
For recreational divers, the depth limit is 18m for level 1 certification (OWD) and 30m for level 2 (Advanced OWD). On that note, I don't think your average joe will ever get near to 100m, let alone 200 tongue.gif

And I do agree with Jason on his last point. My watches (from the Swatch to the Rollie) are all lovingly worn (and dinged). While I don't advocate purposely banging your watch against the wall, I also feel that there's a story (your story) behind every ding.
Someday, when my watches are passed on to the next in line, I hope to be able to re-tell the stories of each scratch from days gone by smile.gif

That crack on the Speedy was from your mother, when she found out that I lost the winning lottery ticket, and proceeded to take the closest tossable item and threw it at my general direction.

I was in the Paris Metro, my buddy was wearing a Rolex GMT Master II. So, I wouldn't know.
Though I am pretty sure you wouldn't want to be strolling in Bronx wearing a Rolex without packing some heat though.

Rollie is a mugging magnet.

Mako, Monster, Mudman or the G-Series for everyday work.

Pontos, MasterPiece, Tagente or slightly up the ante: Reverso or Master Compressor for more refined occasion.

Calatrava, Nautilus, Altiplano or Saxony as heirloom. Remember the cheesy tagline "You don't own a XXXXX, you look after it for the next generation".

Old SMP300 with GMT and black face...?

2535.80? But I think that's only available with the blue face.

2234.50? Black face, but not co-axial.

Which one will it be?

I bought from WATA Time, it's the black face with Co-Axial movement for sure.

Added on November 8, 2012, 8:22 pmMy Sea Master is the Black Face Co Axial Chronometer non GMT Series nor Ceramic Bezel.

Rollie is really getting very common these days.

Mako, Monster, Mudman etc. I think it is a very good timepiece for people who don't really bother about watches, but still its a respectable work horse compared to the all the fashion crap watches like Fossil etc. with chinese movements.

As for the next generation, I will personally ask them to go f**k themselves and go earn their keep themselves. No free lunch in this world, get used to it.

relax, mate, why resort to such? in which line did i belittle the big names? i even praised them as legends, which they really are... biggrin.gif

in this context, i think what i was trying to convey is this:

if you have all the resources in abundance, then of course you can get anything you like. the real challenge is when you have very limited, and yet you can get things that are almost(!) as useful, now it is an achievement. in the case of the Mako, I'm still amazed by the poeple in Orient that they can produce a product at that accuracy and beauty, yet at less than 5% of the cost of the big boys, now that's a terrific achievement - at least to me that is. biggrin.gif

The black bay's nice too though not quite sure if can live with the red bezel in the long term but the pelagos ticks the most boxes. Maybe except that its a lot of money for a 2824.

I think typically/relatively, watches are not expensive to make. Just that the higher-end Swiss brands command a ridiculous amount of profit margin.
