though ya it looks weird seeing people taking pics with their tablets, but labelling those groups with names to me are a bit too much. It looks weird because it isnt mainstream enough. Before, taking pics with Note looked as dumb just because of the size, but now it look pretty much 'normal', coz a lot of people are doing it.

Unless youre a photographer and some hippies disturb ur daily works with his/her tab-photographing acts in front of ya or some hippies flash this and that with their gigantic iPad, then yes you might have a valid point in having this anger but if not, what they do imo is pretty much none of your business. Perhaps too much time to spend or think ourselves are better in some sort of ways?

I dont have a tablet yet that has a back camera but im thinking of getting the N10 and I do plan when it comes to something that i need to photograph that instant, I dont think taking it by a tablet gives others who see my act the rights to judge that I'm a moron/ retard or what. Just my humble opinion regarding this.

Everybody have their own poison preference I guess. But here's my full experience with these segment of people.

I recently attended a wedding of someone close. At the dinner, I was seated next to the VIP table. The bride and bridegroom already hired 2 professional photographers with their assistants to cover the event. Whenever there's a ceremony ( speech, open bottle, yamseng etc ), there'll be a bunch of people rushing forward to take pictures, including the hired photographers. There are some sensible amateurs that stood aside while the professionals do their job, but some just hogged the sweet spots. Dah la they're blocking the view, then they slowly waited for their camera app to load up, focus then shoot. And shoot again. And again. There were 3 particular iPad photographers I particularly disliked as they act completely oblivious to the fact the device they're holding are blocking the view from other guests, video cameras, and the actual photographers.

My question is this.
There are other compact devices, why iPad?
Pros are covering the event, why interfere?
Other people wants to experience the view, don't you think you're being selfish by blocking it? ( damn video takers )

professional photographers wont use iPad or tabs for their photographing works, if they do then they're obviously not professionals, perhaps just close friends to the pair, wanting to have those memories recorded as well. If not then like I said, some hippies think by having their iPad flashed in public, people would be impressed.

I have friends who use their iPad when hanging out to snap our photos at out table, because thats what they usually bring when hanging out. are they really that stupid taking a couple of pics of us, their friends, at our table using an iPad? No I dont think so.

So it's easy for us to judge people by just seeing what's 'not normal' in our eyes but really, this shouldnt come to labelling those as morons/ retards, just because they do that. I dont know about you guys, but I usually ignore the things that I see which I dont like, and spare the judgements somewhere else. It's healthy for our minds, trust me. lolz laugh.gif

Haha wow guys, chillax - we should ostracise those who LOVE using iPads to take photos just cause, but calling them names.. not cool. I cover events quite a bit, and it does get pretty damn annoying, but hey, just take a step back and laugh at these people with your friends, forget about it. laugh.gif

Besides, aren't we getting a little out of topic...?

My mom don't have smartphone.
I bought her ipad3.

The ipad is pretty much her only camera. That she can share to fb, check with her friends etc.

Before,
Hei mom, u wan ipad? It's nice.
Mom: no son, it's too advance for me.

I bought anyway and it's her best friend now. And she really enjoy taking pictures wit it.

The ipad 3 camera is REALLY REALLY good.
And you can instantly review it at the big screen.
It's really a nice point and shoot for my mom.
She finds the digi cam a bit confusing and slow.

I don't think it's wrong or weird to use tablet for photo taking.
But it does looks incredibly silly to take self portrait in public with tablet. haha.

Sorry for long winded post. Kinda feel a bit but hurt because my mom is one of the annoying people in your post that snaps pics wit ipad during weddings and birthdays. I'll tell her not to get in the way of the pro photographers. ;-) sorry...

I don't get why this question is on the Nexus 7 thread specifically, but as for your answer......
The "people being oblivious" thing, Initially I thought it's only in Malaysia: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JiosPxt_5kw#t-2m46s
But then I suppose I've seen it here in Singapore as well. It's okay if you say they only have one device to shoot a photo with if they're out in public and something happens suddenly (like a meteor strike), but if you're already at an event/place where you know you'll be taking pics in advance (like a wedding) and still choose to take pics with a tablet, then I say you're a complete idiot. It might be a different matter if tablets came with much better cameras than smartphones, but that's actually the opposite in many cases.

It's not wrong at all to take pics with iPad/etc. But when you get into the way of people who take photos to put food on their family's table, that's wrong. The whole point is not about tablet shooters, it's the mentality of most tablet shooters. That being said, I doubt your mom would be like that. It's usually the young teens who think flashing an iPad makes him greater than every single human on Earth.

When the first ipad came out, many people (especially android fanboys) complain or ridicule that ipad does not have camera at back, not like Samsung tablet. Today, the latest ipads have camera, people also complain, so how ? doh.gif
Now they get their wish. laugh.gif

I agree camera for tablets is just silly. Front camera ok.

I don't disagree with you. My mum is pretty much computer-illiterate.. Heck, I think I'll have better luck teaching a tupai/squirrel how to use Windows XP faster than her.

But I got her an iPad2 last year and she's been very happy using it. She checks e-mail, goes on skype to chat with her old friends, even reads articles on Flipboard. Apple finally made a device she could feel comfortable with.

She also uses it to take pics of kids when they come visit and all.

BUT,

If I saw my mom at a function blocking people with her tablet, I'd still scold her!! tongue.gif

Anyway, back on topic.
Nexus 7. tis good, ya?

Updated Stickmount to latest version 2.0. Clear cache/data for stickmount. Still can't play video on MX Player & Dice Player. Any idea why?

I guess there are plenty of youngsters with this issue huh?
Bought iPad3 for my mother too recently. But unlike your mothers my mother has decent knowledge of using pc.But turning the clicking mouse skill to touch & gesture was bit tricky. But she got hold of it after few days. biggrin.gif

iPad camera is only good IF there's decent light.Otherwise you can see all the ugly "spots" in the picture.

Honestly I wanted to buy her Nexus 7.But the screen size is too small for old people plus I've no idea when Nexus 10 will be sold in Malaysia.
It's perfectly possible to teach older people on how to use latest technology. All you need is some patient.

P/S:My mother never use the iPad to take pictures at functions.Even she said it look stupid taking picture with the huge piece of aluminum.

My kid has his year end concert and there was a professional camera fixed at the center. Despite the MC keep giving warning that everyone should be seated or if you take pictures, make sure don't disturb other people, nobody cared.

On both sides of the stage, there are big screen projector playbacks.... yet ppl still go to the center, in front of the paid pro camera, and block the view. At the end, the final piece is a group singing with the teachers, etc...both the projector screens showed only a pitch black blank screen. Bravo msia... this is the kind of inconsiderate ppl whom I label rude, completely rude.
