But yeah, current iPad 3 owners really must be feeling "tulan" right now. Their only comfort would be at least all of the docking accessories out there still works with their iPad 3 without any bulky adapter!
*
Damn right I feel tulan. Only bought the iPad for 2weeks and this announcement came up. To think that the 'new' iPad only arrived in malaysia in May. %#@! Apple.

I digress. I'm here to check on what custom ROMs you guys are having. I flashed Glazed as my first, satisfied but itchy hands to try new ROMs. Experimenting on KAOS now. Opinions anyone?

wow, v3, so nexus 7 consider smooth? or will lag sometimes?
*
So far I find it very smooth. Occasionally it'll lag once you get out of heavy 3D game like Modern Combat 3, but other than that I find it really lagless. I'm really impressed how fast it loads up 3D intensive game.

on XenonHD, faux 1.6GHz 520GPU

For shooting action. Dead Trigger ( free ), Modern Combat 3, Dark Night Rises
Casual - Fruit Ninja, Cordy, Granny Smith
Strategy - Catan (boardgame), Total War Shogun, Majesty ( + Northern Expansion )
I'm more into retro gaming however, so I emulate using GBA.EMU, GBCoid, N64oid, fpse, etc etc

not only otg i can even stream mkv and rmvb from my PC through WiFi, no problem at all.
If mkv and rmvb is able to stream, I'm guessing avi and the usual formats are able as well right? How did you stream through wifi? A Samba server?

for network stream i share the folder where i put my media files, and use ES File Explorer to access thru LAN.
*
Yes it is on Linux.

Awesome! Thanks for the tip. I always wanted to explore that portion of ES. Which OS are you using?

update: Can't connect to my shared media folder on my Vista desktop since it and the WIFI is on different vlan. I guess I'll try it later at home.

My unit was perfect thank the Gods. I think I love it more than the iPad. Can't recall the number of ROMs and kernels I've already tried on this monster.

anyone manage to install the goolge MAP with global navigation ?? tried that but still not navigation :-(
*
I've tried it out. Did the easier way via flashing in the zip at recovery. It's just alright as a navigation app. Still prefer Sygic even though the maps is kinda outdated.

What do go mean by a hacked version of map? And does the navigation useable if the tablet go offline?

Another question, since the nexus 7 is a WiFi only tablet, can we use GPS like sygic or papago like smartphone?
*
Google Nav is only available is US as far as I know. Thus to have it enabled in Malaysia you either need to get the hacked APK, edit the files yourself using a root explorer or flash in the zip.

Its UGLY!!
It's not too ugleh but I think Nexus7 is sexier. I'm really happy with my 16GB N7. Btw for those ROM flashers out here, try Glazed 2.1. It's a damn awesome ROM. Fast. simplistic and stable.

and again, if u compare with US price of course feel cheated. they in the US google already subsidize for the US residents.
open your mind. the UK price for 32gb is same with 16gb previously, 199GBP.
if u convert that to MYR, it'll be around 960++, so 999 do make sense.
w/o google's content here besides app (movie, music, etc), google also cannot subsidize for us.
even for app purchase i believe most malaysian don't want to fork out the money to buy legally from the play store.
*
+1
People should not just judge things by that they see straight out. It's just ridiculous to see people raging and whining over the price difference but still buys it in the end.

On another note, I'm really disappointed there's no support for Books. I wonder if is it possible to have N7 use VPN to a US IP and procure those goodies Google left out from the rest of the world

hi all, would you get tax or detain by custom if buy from foreign countries?
*
Not unless you get the 3G version. The parcel would then be marked as "cellphones" rather than "PC/tablet". Then, if not mistaken you need a permit from SIRIM.

glazed rom is a really ciplak rom.
the version number write wrong, project butter not working at recent app list, icons oversize till cut off at notification tray
it was the one of the early custom rom, and also the most laggy one. stock rom pownes it.
but problem is many people in xda never try stock rom, once buy straight flash custom rom.
doh.gif thats why the view so insanely high.

the developer small kid only. 13 or 15 years old forgot.
it was built i think development end since end of july. and started again only recently.
now the new one maybe much more improvement. you try and see.

i also looking for a way to make the colors on n7 punchier and more vibrant.
tried so many screen related app in market, all not work one.

you try and see the bravia engine got make it better or not.
everytime after i look n7 after see amoled screen. the n7 loos like black and white only. so pale.
*
Actually I find Glazed the best. There's an update recently to v4.2. I was on Glazed 4.1 with Motley+. My first ROM i flashed in and I really like the stability and simplicity. After that I tried others like
XenonHD - another minimalist
Kaos - lots of options at aroma, including kernel
Paranoid - tablet / phabet UI. You have to try it out to experience it.

Glazed 4.1 was already very smoooth and stable for me but I just want to check out other ROM. Now on Glazed v4.2 with trinity 7.

To compare N7's with amoled is pretty unfair. It's like saying you like apple and wished oranges taste like apple.

@orenzai : To choose a ROM you have to ask what are you looking for that your current ROM is lacking? Do you prioritize speed, stability, functionality, UI etc?

Its so tempting to put mine up too, but seeing there's already quite a few out there maybe I'll just hold on to it. I think I've grown rather attached to it

Haha Im just an adventurous guy. I like to try out new stuff that makes my gadgets feel different. I used to help my friend root and flash his HTC although I dont own an android myself. This would be my first android gadget! biggrin.gif

I will most probably be looking for fluidity as first priority. I dont play much games so performance is not my thing. Just fluid, stable and something that I can use without crashing on me. Btw, how do you guys backup your stuff? Titanium backup and restore seems to be a bit tedious if you constantly change roms.

*
Well if you're adventurous I'd suggest paranoid. What you get is a total nexus 7 UI makeover. So far the ROMs I mentioned didnt crash on me, just becareful when flashing kernels. Some kernels are not compatible with certain ROMs. If unsure, don't bother with kernels until you find a ROM to your liking. Kernels is just a self-added tweak to save battery or overclock etc. As I said earlier, I'm totally digging Glazed.

Titanium Backup is my best bet to backup/restore. If you purchase the Pro version you can batch restore/backup/modify etc with just one tap. Sides, if you're still experimenting you probably wont have much apps. It's pretty simple really

True. For most people that's already satisfied with the stock ROM, flashing in a custom will not improve much. It's easier for people to just root and stay on stock. Unfortunately some people just itchy hands want to feel cool flashing multiple ROMs and kernel combination while playing around with Quadrant. ..yolo?

what if my tablet goes wrong/cant turn on... how the heck to 'unroot'  hmm.gif

Google "nexus 7 tool kit". That's the only tool you need. Read it up and ask if you don't understand. Don't worry it's not as overwhelming as it first looks.

Guys, i wanna ask a question

Wanna gain some feedback from N7 users as i planned to get 1 of this

How inconvenience are u with N7 since it has no rear camera?

Video of someone ranting about N7 for you guys to see

*
The only drawback I think is relevant is the lack of space and microSD slot. Honestly, the lack of camera has no negative effect on my mental health as shown by many critics. In fact, it's better this way. With my iPad I constantly am very aware of the lens so I don't dirty it while handling. Yyou'd look pretty silly holding a heavy device over to take a picture. Reminded myself of a wedding. I was next to the VIP table and there's this lady came all the way up to take pictures with her iPad. She looked so ridiculous compared to the other photographers I couldnt help laughing loudly.

Found an awesome pic

Yeah..I am very aware about that. But have you watched the video that i post earlier?

From the video, you can see that he has a point. It's not about taking good quality picture. There are many other things for that purpose. It's about the convenience of having one.
*
Yes and I still am not moved. You asked for feedback and I gave you mine. You don't have to take mine as an absolute. If someone can't live without the convenience of a rear camera, by all means there's other alternatives. However that convenient camera that you may or may not use, is one of the reasons why N7 is way cheaper than other tablets while still sporting high scores on practical operation benchmark.

I know it's awesome to have a device that can do everything you want to. But lets be realistic and ask yourself what do you really want to do with a tablet on a daily basis?

The following is a couple of appsI use regularly.
- Web browsing
- Pinterest
- Pulse
- Flipboard ( this really looks awesome on N7 )
- Mantano Reader ( compared to alkido this is better )
- Mango
- Manga Watcher
- Moboplayer/MX Player combo ES Explorer ( watch movies/anime/TV )
- fPSe + USB gamepad ( PSX games )
- GBA.EMU
- Gaming cheat apps ( need root )
- Sygic GPS
- Evernote
- Polaris

N7 is an awesome device as it is and the above fills in every requirement I needed in a tablet. As I said earlier the only nagging issue is the lack of space, which I've solved with a fileserver. Basically my big files is to watch movies while I shit. So yeah
