just be confident and tell them why u want the job so much. also, during the group interview/exercise, speak up more but don't go overboard, at least give your suggestions. don't be just a silent contributor.

can anyone tell me how's the format for the interview?

I heard it started of with written exam(Physics, Maths and possibly Chem for SPM Level), if only you managed to pass the exam you'll grouped and you're given a task e.g. making flashlight, build a rig and etc. after that you'll be sitting down for an individual interview?

can anyone clarify on this? esp. the written exam part?

I just got an offered from ExxonMobil as a User Support Geoscientist (USG), it is dealing with IT. I am wondering want to accept this offer or not, because I am not from IT background and I know nothing about IT, too. icon_question.gif

rainbow84, you can try to send off your resume to the Oil and Gas Companies, I believe they are really need these people.

Added on May 27, 2008, 3:18 pmAnyone has worked as USG (User Support Geoscientist) in ExxonMobil? or the related job in other companies? Please leave some experiences to share with me, so that I could more understand about this job.

I am just 'free' from U, what is the expected salary I should put if I accept this offer?
(Thanks for the replying in advanced smile.gif )

You also recruited as USG in XOM? fresh grad?

Looked back to the previous posts, XOM provide intensive trainings for the employees. After the trainings, I might be from knowing nothing become knowing everything icon_idea.gif . But I'm still worry that I cant manage to take the job well. I'm lack of confidence.

How about Dugeo? Any sharing about this company?

Hi, I am not USG. But IT analyst. I think if you mentioned there are many intensive trainings for staff, you got no worry whether you manage to handle the job. Because after the training you will from knowing nothing become know everything as you mentioned. haahaa.

longest for me only 30 days, after that go back to base for 4-5 days, do deliverables, then back offshore again for another 25 days, and it goes on...so far, i think it's about 3 months until i get vacations or get to go on training courses.

dario81, you don't try you won't know. i think service companies offer pretty good training if you wanna earn some pretty decent money, and they like ppl w/o much experience & still pretty young as field engineers.

iDk, attrition rate is high because this job is not for everyone. When you work this hard & most of the time sacrificing time with close ones, sometimes you'll think is the money worth it? worse still, if you're based somewhere remote, with not even internet connection/phonecalls so expensive to call home or too dangerous to even go out on your off-days, you'll start thinking again is it worth it? Also, it's not an office job - it's a test of both brains & brawns. Some ppl get exhausted, demotivated, performance goes down, so they either quit or wait to be fired.

Do you have any experience in drilling operation or any of your friends involving in drilling operation? Or else you are just assuming their nature of work only, no point of talking about it as myself also need to go back submit deliverable, and off to site again or training. So i believe you and i is at the same field but doing different thing. I know how hell the site work can be in terms of physically and mentally, and i am talking about 48hours without sleep here.

Ive been trying to work it out, the most you get is 6-1 assuming you can even rotate .. SO I'm stuck trying to decide between SLB (FE in kemaman) and Shell ( Productions in Miri). Would really really sppreciate any help

I'm doing m/lwd. Just finished a penta combo job with RT geosteering, went for some internal management training & now back on another rig (yes, writing here after my shift on the rig & i am probably like 15 ft away from the rotary table now). Worked in some locations in Latin America & Middle East, attended training in the US, Southeast Asia & Middle East. Currently have experience with about 12 tool families on M/LWD side in the various sizes. Same as you, longest hours without sleep is only 48 hours.

What about you, iDk?

and pinkdalmation, it depends on your contract, IMs only get 48 days vacation, can be rolled over to next year if not taken. ICs get rotations, HCR/HCMs might get rotations depending on local management. Also, although they hire you as FE locally, you could suddenly be IM & posted to another location. Compare the salary & what you wish to learn, operator companies usually treat you better though. Also, ask yourself if you feel suited for the job.

I rejected Shell last time but it was mainly 'cos of the pay & the difference in the position offered where I was hired and then really given.

My contract states HCM .. recruiting manager said no rotation, is this a permanent thing? With Shell, outsiders have told me that once you get posted to Miri its very difficult to move from Miri to another posting. Im trying to find out whether well testing or production has better prospects in the long run.

Most people are telling me that SLB works you to death, and the industry isnt suitable for females. Im up for the challenge, but its starting to get to me.

I've never worked in Kemaman, so I can't confirm that. Maybe you can negotiate to work like 1 month and see for yourself if you like it or not, then hold on to the other offer from Shell?

As for the phrase "working you to death", it's largely dependent on the person. Every single job you do will be a learning experience and with no rotations, it means you work more = more experience = more attractive to other employers = more money & more personal development. So compared to a person on 4/4 rotation, you could be doubling his/her experience every 2 months!

Btw, if they somehow offer you Vietnam as a location, don't think twice & just go for it!

im not sure i can keep the offer for that long though .. Shell sounds like a really good place to work in, but i figured i might as well do it the hard way before switching to something easier . .

btw, why is vietnam that good?

Oh god... today slb just reply me a mail... like below...

[Thank you for your interest regarding employment with Schlumberger. After carefully considering your background, qualifications and our current requirements, we feel that at the present time we do not have a position available that would satisfy both our needs.]

If not mistaken, I applied slb on last Dec. I did not received any acknowledgement email that stating whether they have received my online application or not... until today... I'm informed that I did not succeed for my application...

Does it mean I will have to wait for another 1 1/2 year to reapply or forever I have lost my chance...

fyi... I got a degree in Mechanical but have 2 years of sales and marketing experience in semicon industry... is it that hard for me to switch into oil and gas industry...?

I just received an offer to intern with MMC Oil & Gas. They offered me a position in the Project Management/Engineering department. Any idea what the department is involved in? Anybody else with experience working at MMC?

I'm offered position of mechanical engineer (static). Will be doin my medical tomorrow and with the upcoming Gawai festivities, I guess I'll have to wait till next week for news from HR to come in and receive further instructions. I'm based in Miri as well.

In regard to the SLB thingy, I think it's a person to person basis. A friend of mine (female as well) has been in SLB for two years now. She says the work is challenging and wouldn't recommend it to a friend (Yes, she's thinking of hopping if given the chance). But workload aside, she says it's an okay company (SLB that is). She's involved in exploration.
