I got an offer from ranhill (piping engineer) and another from fmc (subsea team). Which has better career prospect? Fmc has lower basic but their training is overseas and a lot of offshore work/projects. Ranhill has higher basic and i will be joining their epc team immediately if confirm. Pls advice.

both also seems to be tempting.. but if they really promise overseas training, then u should take that one..

but ranhill worleyparsons is a good platform to jump to big O&G companies..

thats my opinion rclxms.gif

Yup, I will be bonded for the overseas training. The good thing is that there is a lot of opportunities to work overseas after training. Meaning I wouldnt be base in one place. Very mobile life which i really like. I like Ranhill also since i've work with them before previously and learnt alot from their people but fmc is also giving me a very good opportunity to go a lot of places. For fmc i will be doing well services. I am still having a hard time making a decision. Both are equally tempting in my eyes.

in my opinion, knowing the working environment in RWP, fmc is better. in RWP, you'll find yourself hard to understand most of your tasks since you only have to imagine them, rather than be at site (the chances to go to site is nearly zero for fresh grad), maybe they offer you better than fmc, but dont forget, youll get site allowance(onshore/offshore) with fmc,im with RWP for 2 years now, and from what i see, consultancy will only be fun if you are a senior staff.

hi everyone(grease monkeys),
currently i am studying mechanical engineering course in IPTA. here's my story and i hope that someone can answer my questions.

i would like to venture in O&G field. now, i am in 5th semester.for my course, the industries displacement, LI (in malay,it's call latihan industri ) will be held for 12 weeks(2.5 months) after finished my 6th semester study.

since only 12 weeks is given to undergo my industry displacement, do any O&G companies accept internship students for such a short duration? when i do some searching on the internet, what i can found is most of the companies only offer an internship vacancy to candidate which at least can be with them for 3-6 months, AT LEAST.

so,do i stand a chance for this? do someone done this before?is it maybe most of the O&G companies actually didn't put notices for vacancies?

*PS: i need a touch light, please~~~~who have it???

Thanks for the input, whitesox. It helped me made my decision. I've never enter before ranhill office in kl and i've only met ranhill piping engineers on site when i was involve in a project. The offer between fmc and ranhill is only of slight difference.

Well service for Subgsea wellhead or Surface? Downside you might need to stay for weeks/months on the rig and sacrifice some of your joy time. However $$ and Experience is there.

@stupidbo
Try submitting your resume to all the companies for internship. It's hard for us to tell.

Not too sure if it is subsea or surface for the moment. Yup, need 2 be able to stay on the rig for weeks. I am new to this so i think the experience will be worthwhile.

This is easy. Ask yourself what you want.

Do you like office based work, meeting clients and joining the corporate rat race?

OR

Do you like to work like a grease-monkey on the field in your jumpsuit, setting wellheads, BOPs and wearbushing offshore?

yes.. depends with the companies.. Like for example, PPMSB accept LI students but the numbers is huge, therefore they limited for certain numbers only. You have to call them and ask them.. BE FAST..

If you want to find a company that can send you to offshore, I dont think so because if you want to go offshore, you need to have bosiet and it is a cost for the company. But who knows, maybe the company really want to hire you maybe the will give you the opportunity. Who knows.. biggrin.gif

Chances is always there, its your job to start the engine and press the throttle (if you know what i mean). biggrin.gif

why I love O&G? I can travel everywhere!!! biggrin.gif Welcome to your new world future grease monkeys..

got an interview with sapura for geotech eng as i was told. although, i would really like a field eng job because i think more offshore time. should i inform them of my intentions? btw, anybody have experience with sapura interview? also what is their expected salary and benefits? afraid will ask too much because comparing with my current salary and benefits.

currently working with small time testing services company in singapore. current job pay is sgd and high end of normal office fresh grad salary. but work exp only 3 months. can consider to push salary higher? but dont really mind the drop in salary value.

reason to come back to MY is that im closer to my loved ones when not offshore. currently not going offshore much (skip a month+ and only for a few weeks from what i was told) anyway but still dont get to see my loved ones because of the distance. i was thinking might as well get a job that goes offshore more then at least make money for the same time frame.

some advice on the interview, the options to weigh if im offered a job with sapura, what to expect from sapura, and also pros and cons of earning and staying in malaysia compared to earning and staying in singapore would be great. thanks guys!

yeah sapuracrest. yeah definitely will go for interview first. drafting questions for myself that i hope would guide me in making the right choice. but would be great if anybody could share their interview exp with them.

field engineer would of course be on field. from my previous offshore exp, chatting with the field eng there, he said they work 3 months offshore then 1 month leave. they work in group of 5s and have shifts of about 14hrs.

geotech eng im not so sure. anybody can enlighten me on this position's job scope.

and also interview tips for sapuracrest would be great.
