I'm a civil engineering fresh graduate of university of malaya. I'm currently working for a local company in Singapore that provides offshore services mainly in pile monitoring of platform installation. I've only been working here for a couple of months but I do not find it interesting as it is only a specific job and besides it is more office work then field work. I am more interested in work that is field work because I think I should go for that type of work while I'm still young. The field experience will also allow me to learn and grow at a more accelerated rate. Can any of you seniors out there advice me? Thanks a lot guys!

QUOTE(lin00b @ Aug 19 2010, 01:10 AM) sad to say, i dont think thats their core specialization. i.e the chances of you getting in from HVAC background is about the same as getting in via accounting background (actually i think accounting might have better chance ) Why u say so?fresh grad some more.he can always ask for some electrical job.start with some general work n work ur way up the ranks.if u really want it,u just have to work harder.

got an interview with sapura for geotech eng as i was told. although, i would really like a field eng job because i think more offshore time. should i inform them of my intentions? btw, anybody have experience with sapura interview? also what is their expected salary and benefits? afraid will ask too much because comparing with my current salary and benefits.
currently working with small time testing services company in singapore. current job pay is sgd and high end of normal office fresh grad salary. but work exp only 3 months. can consider to push salary higher? but dont really mind the drop in salary value.
reason to come back to MY is that im closer to my loved ones when not offshore. currently not going offshore much (skip a month+ and only for a few weeks from what i was told) anyway but still dont get to see my loved ones because of the distance. i was thinking might as well get a job that goes offshore more then at least make money for the same time frame.
some advice on the interview, the options to weigh if im offered a job with sapura, what to expect from sapura, and also pros and cons of earning and staying in malaysia compared to earning and staying in singapore would be great. thanks guys!

QUOTE(daTUK_SErI @ Sep 1 2010, 02:56 PM) i thought geotech will spent more times offshore iinm.. I believed it is sapura crest am i right? I think its better for you to attend the interview first.. its only my opinion.. yeah sapuracrest. yeah definitely will go for interview first. drafting questions for myself that i hope would guide me in making the right choice. but would be great if anybody could share their interview exp with them. field engineer would of course be on field. from my previous offshore exp, chatting with the field eng there, he said they work 3 months offshore then 1 month leave. they work in group of 5s and have shifts of about 14hrs. geotech eng im not so sure. anybody can enlighten me on this position's job scope. and also interview tips for sapuracrest would be great.

QUOTE(ideoteque @ Sep 3 2010, 10:57 PM) if geotech eng with sapuracrest petroleum, maybe u will be in TL Geotech. interview nothing much, u will take personality test..questionaires, normal interview stuff.. offshore allowance is RM110 per day on top of monthly salary. Thanks! They'll give interview result within 2 weeks. But really? Offshore allowance that low? Is that why I hear alot of TL Geotechnics engs leaving/left? I know I will have to face a pay cut if I was to work in MY but I didn't think even for offshore allowance. I have heard that offshore allowance for different local company rm200/day. Now I'm having doubts even if I were to get the offer. Any comments on that?
