This is so true, start small, get offshore experience - most important. Most operator will not accept trainee on board offshore unless the service company send trainee FOC, free of charge, due to bed space constraint / chopper charge / meal etc. Once you got 2 yrs experience offshore, running the job yourself without any f*** up then the business will keep coming in. Sometimes a guy with 3 yrs experience working with you is way better than a new unknown guy with 15 yrs experience elsewhere smile.gif. Build your rapport and people will acknowledge you.

Offshore life is a small world, the people on board are like your families and stories does go around, so watch out.

meaning OnG operators seldom send their trainee on board but OnG service usually send them on board FOC?

Welcome to Western Geco. Don't worry, OBP ppl have the cushiest job offshore and you still get the same amount of money as the guys who's work are more physical in nature. Just sit in the onboard office and process data only.. end of the month watch the money come rolling in. Better advancement opportunities too compared to office based DP engineers.

No problem..

Yeap there is internet on the vessel and satellite tv. As for entertainment.. most vessels have a pretty decent DVD library with a dedicated theater room with a big screen tv. My vessel also has a Wii and PS3 in the dayroom, there's also a gym and sauna. There's a ping pong table, foosball table, carrom board, board games, a small library of books and magazines and a basketball hoop on the helideck. So there's a decent amount of things to do onboard.. and someone always organizes tournaments and what not every trip.

The food is ok-lah.. obviously you're not gonna get your nasi lemak and roti canai for breakfast but they try and cater to western and asian tastes most of the time. The chicken/beef/lamb is usually not halal.. but if you let the galley crew know they almost always try and get halal food when it's possible. Plenty of junk food/chips/cookies/ice cream/chocolate onboard though. Some ppl actually gain weight when they're onboard!!

OFS-1 is nothing to worry about, just enjoy yourself and have fun.

thanks enkadirmainbola. sounds u had so much fun on board. hehehe. looking forward to be OBP soon. thx again for the infos!! thumbup.gif

OnG Operator can send their trainee at any time, and priority will be given to OnG operator trainee than a OnG service trainee smile.gif Good luck.

Job Description:
- To load, analyse, manipulate and maintain geosciences data to support clients exploration and production operations.

- To perform core interpretation (2D and 3D) and well log analysis.

Although my job is not as interest as the big blue one sweat.gif , but since I am fresh grad here, I think that we (freshies) should not be a choosy person to purposely choose the best employer. Those related to OnG companies is a good place for training before you jump to other better company icon_idea.gif .

So, those who has not found the job yet, try to look for more company and grab the experience as many as you could. People out there are look for the experienced candidate rather than the good academic/education background.

Not really. I had only minor adjustment to my annual premium. I think I still pay less premium than aircraft pilot and taxi driver.

If your a girl, take care! Remember to lock your doors (even if the toilet cubicle is oven hot), even though pple workin there are generally nice and friendly, hardworkin & very careful pple, sometimes they can be abit naughty drool.gif , Coz most likely the guy girl ratio will be, ermm, 50:1?

For entertainment I think they have Astro, DVD players & tons of Pirated DVD, VCD, CD. Particularly Blue movies from all over southeast asia.

Internet access will probably be limited as I assume they using Satellite Communication if it's far away from shore. Phones are probably more easy to access so at least you can make calls.

They probably also have gyms & recreational rooms. You can also find some good spots to fish, even though it's not allowed...

If you are really bored, you can always eat as you probably will have 24 hours access to food. Quality of food varies depending on the cook. But bear in mind even 5 star Hotel mass produced Buffet doesn't taste that great.

If you are still onshore, suggest you bring along a Nintendo DS or PSP, or ur laptop (with entertainment installed). Or else you will either be chatting with guys or you will be sleeping (most likely) after work.

Betul tu.. time tido/mandi kunci pintu .. kadang2 it's not your own ppl yang 'nakal' but outside contractors who come and go all the time. We never really can be too careful around strangers. But other than that.. I have not encountered any harassment when working offshore. Setakat Playboy terselit bawah katil tu.. buat bodo aje sudah.

Anyone here with a mechatronics degree or diploma? Do you need to do some side reading on fibre optics yourself?

I guess when people look at oil and gas, it has been, and will always be, upstream operation.

I got f**ed up on the deal being placed on MTBE processing plant. Pretty much 0 prospect with ***king limited potential as far as OnG is concerned.
