That was the old type of safety fuse used on old cars. Kancil 1st gen has this type of fuse too. Go spare part shop to get replacement.

Not sure if your battery connector has the place to attach the new connector or not, but you can try this wira type of main fuse.

Hi guys,

My 08 Myvi is having some problems with the electrics. Just changed to a new battery and started like normal but once turned on the head lights, the engine dies. Tried a few more times and the same problem happened.

I suspect that this is the fault of the alternator but I need some clarification before spending a large sum of money on repairing the car. Money is very tight at the moment.

I think you can try out the workshop that everyone recommends here. Seems like an honest guy and reasonable price.

They are competent in electrical. Saw quite a few cars looking for the wireman to troubleshoot electrical gremlins.

As for repair aircond compressor, I would vouch for Ming Wah at Chow Kit area. Replaced my aircond compressor leaking shaft seal there. It is a job most shops will not do as takes a long time and the seal is cheap-ass, so they can only charge you workmanship.

Hi Sifus my Old car engine will die sometimes when I press brake during jam. Is this cause by alternator? It will jerk few time and then Macam lose power and die. However if I put N then it will be fine. Sometimes it will die if I reverse too. If aircon off Macam won’t happen. Thanks!

If alternator kong, your car won't start again at all.

I suppose your car is having a clogged throttle body. Clean it together with the MAF, IACV and you should be good to go.

Another satisfied customer and thanks to TS for this thread.

Car mileage exceeded 240k km and voltmeter had previously indicated fluctuating/under voltage (on and off on different occasions but all for a brief period of under 15 seconds before it normalises), in the 12.x volt range (which is not capable of charging battery) over a couple of months sweat.gif

One not so fine night, voltmeter warning beeped repeatedly, did not regularise and additionally, the battery light appeared on the dash (for the first time) alongside usual bad alternator symptoms of gradual dimming of lights and fading stereo/radio plus could sense/feel that the ('weak') engine would go dead if the accelerator pedal was not applied.

Quickly (note the emphasis) drove home after cutting off power to aircon and radio as well as avoided any start stop traffic by using the brake judiciously (as the engine would be sluggish when RPM was low - overdrive was also turned off by ECU, gear did not appear to change) - managed to drive in excess of 40km which I attribute to the healthy amaron hi-life battery.

Was quoted RM300 for half cut alternator and RM650 for original oem (APM) - both by my usual workshop, and labour was a separate charge of RM65.

Fixed at Kwong Heng in under 90 mins (was there early at 9am before any other customer, trust me, you will want to be early) for RM260:
Rebuild rectifier, carbon, starter motor brush, repair and service alternator and starter motor - so far so good, voltage in the normal range shown on voltmeter.

Thank you so much for this post, though dated so long ago it helped me to save considerably.
I had got a quote from Toyota for RM 3000 to replace the alternator.
Before agreeing to proceed with the change, I got my car towed from Toyota service center to Kwang Wang Auto Electrical services in Kepong to see if it was recoverable, especially after reading this post. The uncle is very gentle soft spoken. He checked and told me there is some issue in the alternator and to cut the story short within 3 hours I was driving my car back happily after paying just RM 295.
I will highly recommend this shop in Kepong, if u have any electrical or alternator issue.

care to elaborate what electrical & wiring issues you have with your e46 ? maybe I can advice you cause I also have a e46 myself.

abt the alternator , yes, they can repair yours with ease, much better than replacing with a rm700 recond unit or new Bosch or Valeo that cost > rm2300
