Finally, I have decided to get a Y580 instead of Y500.

The reason is that after looking into the options, no doubt Y500 allows add external graphic card but for me, not really wanna bring external card around. So, planning to get Y580 this few days.

Planning to get the blu ray combo and upgrade to 16 GB RAM and Win 8

Good for you man notworthy.gif
THe Y500 is quite expensive as well...

But since you have a good budget, perhaps it'll be better to get the RM3k Y580 (unless if Bluray is a MUST), then use the remaining money to get an SSD and also warranty extension.
You will get A LOT more performance boost by upgrading the SSD rather than the RAM icon_rolleyes.gif

SSD is better than RAM? Please explain. I upgrade my RAM bcos my previous laptop broken bcos lack of RAM.

It happen when I played War Z while playing iTunes song. So I suspect I fried my motherboard. But between SSD vs RAM, which is better? Tired of keep setting game at the lowest setting.

The link you have point to 2 different screen size: 14" vs 15". Same screen resolution (only HD) though.
GT640M and HD7730M is about on par (depends on which benchmark / games you look at, but very close generally). I will give the edge to GT640M due to Nvidia current better driver support. AMD is picking up the slack, but according to most IT sites, Nvidia still have more hands on deck in driver development.

Do note that Inspiron 15R SE has a spec that come with FHD screen at ~ RM3k.

The max I can go is 2.8k, been looking at Lenovo Y series 480/580. Looks like they have good screens, core i7s, but only 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD,

I dont know weather it will be okay or not because my last laptop had 3GB RAM and I cannot play Minecraft and The Sims 3 at maximum settings.because it was really laggy

Y580 is a very popular laptop, its expected... where have you find? LYP? hmm.gif

I don't think you can break a laptop because of lack of RAM man laugh.gif

Almost all stock notebooks have their performance bottlenecked by the slow reading speed of the HDD (most only come with 5,400rpm HDD). SSD (Google for more details) lack rotational parts like the HDD, and thus is capable of much faster file transfer rates (faster program loading speeds- giving an overall faster perception). For example, those with SSD can enter Windows in less than 30 seconds. SSDs are tougher, lighter, generate less heat as well.

SSD is definitely a better upgrade.
You don't really need much RAM anyways, 8GB is more than enough.

Gaming does not rely on RAM man nod.gif
The GPU is the most important for gaming.
The Y480 may have a slow HDD, that one you can upgrade to SSD or a faster HDD yourself later on when you have the budget. Same goes for the RAM.
Summore those two Lenovo are the most powerful gaming notebook for your budget... If they don't cut it, then nothing else does laugh.gif

Both of those don't really improve games FPS performance.
SSD only helps with faster loading in games,
RAM, is for if you want to open other Apps in the background while keeping the game running...

Planning to get the blu ray combo and upgrade to 16 GB RAM and Win 8

There are already Win8 version available (direct). I suggest you check the LYN garage sale forum. I know some of the sellers have ready stocks. If you don't need the Win8Pro features, don't waste money / time on win7 to win8Pro upgrade.

If I were you, I would take the Y500.
You may take out the external graphics when you go out, and only brings the 120w adapter(same as Y580).
Laptop weight wise(without external graphics), both are about the same.

At least you have the choice of doing some heavy gaming when you get back home, and insert the external graphics, and plug it in to the 170w adapter.

Extra RM800(RM3000 vs RM3800) for an extra 70-90 percent gaming performance increased is a definitely worth it. thumbup.gif

Some more the design looks quite nice. Well, it depends on the person.

Graphics maybe inportant but then again, laptop lifespan is 3 years.

So, rather upgrade RAM or SSD than graphic card. On a budget leh.. Saving money to buy car next year.

This laptop is "unexpected". tongue.gif
