I got that gadgets that monitor my RAM. My current laptop is only 2 GB RAM and just on desktop, already running 32%

So I'm kinda like open multiple apps and really need more RAM

I've been searching this y580 59 351111

Can't find it   mad.gif
*
try running all ur usual software in the background and see how much u actually use. ive tried once long time ago open 20 tabs in firefox, run 2 games (winning eleven and Supreme Commander), open all microsoft office (excel, word, powerpoint), windows media player running mp3, as far as i recall the usage barely touch 3gb of ram laugh.gif

usually bottleneck comes first from the cpu and gpu capability, ram can do as much as it can, its only a memory module use to store temporary data. but then again more ram means u can alt + tab much faster i guess. its up to u how u wanna spend ur money lol. also, ram usage can build up over time if u game for a long period, and some programs simply unable to properly utilize ram efficiently.

You might wanna consider getting a MBP 15 since you have such a good budget laugh.gif
The other Windows-based 15 inchers are mostly overkill for your usage-

Unfortunately there are virtually no 15.6" ultrabooks here in Malaysia (closest is the MBP15)... at least not those worthy of a premium line device tongue.gif
Perhaps you would want to consider a 14 inch ultrabook instead? hmm.gif

1. Preferred Brand: Anything but Acer/ Dell inspiron series( my sis apparently is experiencing BSOD due to USB)
2. Budget: Preferbly at RM3000, 500 more on upgrades like ssd and 8gb ram 1600mhz
3. Usage: proggramming(java,c++,c#), database queiries(sql).... extra bonus(gaming)
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: any, looking into core i5 with2.5ghz or i7 with2.3ghz.

have my eyes set on getting lenovo y580, but am willing to look at alternatives on laptops for portability or others with serious performance.

Its pretty much the Y580 or the Y480 (for portability) nod.gif
Like you said, use the remaining for warranty extension, SSD or RAM upgrades~

Thx, now the real question.... what's the total cost gonna be? rclxub.gif
Am thinking about upgrading y580 with 8gb1600mhz rams and 128/256 ssd(128 if over budget) with cooler pad(cooler master notepal u3?). Any cheap ssd?

Though interested in knowing whether theres a secondary hard drive component, for getting 2 hard disk installed ( 128/256 ssd together with the 500 gb which comes with it, * also transfering all main files to operate from the ssd). Cause the 5400 rpm on the hdd which comes with it is a let down.

A good 256GB SSD should be around RM700 or so (please double-check since I'm not really familiar with price tongue.gif)
If you are getting a Y580, A U3 costs around RM70. If you are getting a Y480, A U2 is around RM60.

Based on my experience, 256GB is more than enough for my usage (I do alot of photo editing and also bioinformatic research). You can always spare an external HDD (the original one would do just fine), and if its still not enough, get a large SD card and insert it, using it as storage as well brows.gif

If you really want to have a SSD + HDD combo, you could always remove the optical drive, and replace it with the HDD/SDD; but I've heard that having a HDD placed in the optical drive might cause vibrations

I know that Y580 is the hype right now and seems like the laptop to go with, with a RM3k budget + - but may I know what are the feedback for Dell Inspiron 15R as compared to Y580? Thanks in advance smile.gif

Reason is bacuase there are some driver issues for that, leading to the inevitable blue screen of death.
My sis got the inspiron 14R and BSOD has been happening alot, frequently, but this being an issue to the USB seeing the BSOD had mention something about USB before restarting the lappy.

On a side note, Inspiron 15r is only equipped with a radeon 7760(i think, forgot the real number), but close to the Geforce 640. Whereas Lenovo y580 is equipped with Geforce 660, which is also on the Razer blade and better graphics then Mac book Pro(Geforce 650). And..... y580 comes Full HD at around RM2799? while if u get Dell 15r special edition with Full hd, it'll skyrocket to over RM3000. But hey could be wrong..... Someone back me up pls.

Hmmm.... very interesting... Can assume that i can apply this to the y480 as well.
Now that i have all the information loaded. It's time to equip my jetpack and fly off......
Online stores be wary..... i'll be gunning down all stores till the last store stand with the best price.... NYAHAHAHhahahahahaha.......

Most people prefer to go for the laptop with the highest specs nod.gif
And the Y580 is not bad at all, so no doubt its very popular thumbup.gif
The Dell Inspiron 15R SE was one of the hottest models as well prior to the release of the Y580~
Although its running on a weaker AMD card, and it does have better warranty coverage nod.gif
Here's a review on the unit (Specs may differ):

Yes there were some cases of BSOD for the 14R and 15R SE, but not a majority of users experienced it... I wonder what's the cause hmm.gif

As for the 15R SE, its relatively "older" than the Y580, so the specs are a bit outdated... I guess the only advantage of the 15R SE is Dell's warranty coverage, as well as the stock mSATA, which is good for those who are daunted by the tasks of self-upgrades (like me) laugh.gif

lol, chill bro, don't worry too much. W8 is basically W7 with an useless additional tile menu hmm.gif
What's more you might get a lot of problems as well since W8 is not exactly matured yet....
You got a good machine, and its good enough smile.gif
And you could always upgrade later if you really want W8 so much icon_rolleyes.gif

If you get Y580 with W7HB, you will get instant cash rebate of RM50 for you to free upgrade to W8Pro as per Lenovo Windows 7 upgrade promotion in their facebook. thumbup.gif
