any idea for ASUS A45VS-VX026H ? I know its EOL model already, bu for slightly above rm2k (RM2030 quoted here in LYN) is it worth it? hows the build quality, battery etc?

spec:

Hard Disk : 500GB Serial ATA
Graphics : Nvidia GeForce GT640 2GB DDR3
Display Size : 14" HD LED WXGA
Optical Drive : DVD-RAM/±R/±RW

actually wanted a FHD screen, but all bundle with i7 now (please assist me if theres i5 @ i3 version), cause i think ill nvr gonna utilize i7 no matter what they say. i3 is enough. 640M keppler is sweeet but i dont mind last gen graphic at least 610M - 635M. got suggestion? tx smile.gif

This is a very new model, don't think its EOL-ed  laugh.gif
Built quality should be pretty decent, like all the previous A series.
Battery life is expected to be 3-4 hours

haha is it? i saw the design quite long time already if not mistaken, they ramp up the spec for final build i guess before they close up with this design, thats why i thot EOL lol haha.

so batt also normal la ya? ok2 thanks smile.gif

I assume you are looking at 14". There is hardly any 14" FHD in Malaysia. You have to go 13" (strange but true) or 15" to get FHD. There are a few HD+ (1600x900) 14", but those are business class (Thinkpad, Latitude ...)

Look at the comparable:
Dell
Inspiron 14R (Special Edition), i5-3210M + Nvidia GT640M(28nm Kepler)@RM2049[2.38kg], 4GB, 500GB(7200rpm), W7HP/W8
Dell has much better warranty support in Msia. Upgrade to 3 year on site warranty.
*
yeah thanks bro smile.gif yeah problem for FHD they comes with i7... i dont 15.6" actually as long as its not bulky design, but i dont intend to spend more then rm3k sweat.gif 15.6" on 1366x768.. will it be THAT bad? rclxub.gif

Inspiron 14R as u mentioned, i cant find in Dell website, only have 630M for RM1899. maybe need to go lowyat plaza.

3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i5-3210M processor (3M Cache, up to 3.1 GHz)
Windows 8 Single Language, English (64bit)
14.0"(35.6cm) HD WLED True-Life (1366x768)
4GB3 DDR3 SDRAM at 1600MHz
500GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
NVidia GeForce GT 630M DDR3 1GB
12.7" SATA Tray Load DVD+/-RW
1Yr Ltd Hardware Warranty, InHome

but anyhow i lost trust in dell haha. too much problems over the years with family and friends, even with great service, its like a time bomb sweat.gif

wowieee so bad haha. anyway on a side note, ppl said Acer service sucks etc, but in my experience (3 Acers in the past in the family), i nvr got bad experience with Highpoint (their service center). even once i help teman my friend go claim warranty, i got my aspire timeline with me, complain with them the battery now not as long as it used to be and they change the new one lol (almost 1 year old). of course... experience may differ.

for Dell, it was great, once when in the UK the dvd drive of the laptop behave and stuck, call them and they send next day delivery new DVD drive and instruction how to change it. here i dunno blush.gif

nice bro thanks. will seriously consider this smile.gif

As for the Dell,
Win7: http://configure.ap.dell.com/dellstore/con...s=dhs&cs=mydhs1
Win8: http://configure.ap.dell.com/dellstore/con...s=dhs&cs=mydhs1

For my experience with Dell, they send their technician next business day and fix it. Unless they have parts shortage...

The Spec you quote is 14R, not the 14R SE smile.gif Make sure to extend the warranty, then negotiate a bit  tongue.gif
In Malaysia, I only buy Dell and Lenovo with on site warranty. Getting old to spend my time going to support centre biggrin.gif

Ultrabay 650M SLI. You could swap your ODD out and put in another GT650M. If driver support is good, my guess is you are looking at performance on par with GT675M.
*
I see.. then Lenovo is another choice then. yeah sending for warranty sux. it costs time and money and effort, not knowing if the problem will ever be solve (case in point, the Asus thread) haha. Ok time to look at Lenovo models. any suggestion? tx

Maybe Lenovo Z480.
or Y480 if budget can extend..
It would be cheaper, but depends Lenovo MY got offer that setup or not..
The Y500 offered for now, include the extra GPU.
*
This is interesting now since its FHD:

Lenovo Y580 – 15.6” FHD / i7-3630QM / 4GBRAM / 500G / GTX660M 2G / W8 : RM2880/-

worth it? why u no come in i5 argh~ rclxub.gif

devour don't have ?
Worth it, cheapest notebook with GTX660M laugh.gif

Are you looking just for FHD notebook or need dedicated GPU as well?
There is Acer Iconia W700 with FHD@RM2199, but intel HD4000 only..
*
well like i mentioned, depends on the value of it. if no need dedicated can go all the way down to i3 (or even dual core) also np, cos in my experience nowadays any cpu good enough edy. just adjust on batt life, quality etc.

if no gaming at all, Asus Vivobook X202 is nice at RM15++. touchscreen, i3, win8, 11.6" @ 1366x768 which is very acceptable (actually already bought one for my gf.. if only i read the Asus thread... rclxub.gif ). hell i used AMDe450 before, bought Samsung for less then RM1k, ok for old gaming like Company of Heroes etc no complain.

if gaming, then the problem (and price) arises lol haha. dilemma. rm2k maybe the sweet spot, but then again im in the buying mood so... blush.gif maybe wait for pc fair later on dec

Your problem is a common one  blush.gif
Brands seems to see FHD as an high end thingy, and that's why you will only see FHD with high end CPU, or business class, or ultrabook. Pick your poison  laugh.gif
*
yeah... funny thing is 5 years ago higher reso is so common. nowadays its all 1366 zzzzzzzzzz...... scroll scroll scroll

What about this new 5 series which comes with W8 and touch screen?

SAMSUNG SERIES 5 NP540U3C-A01MY ULTRABOOK TOUCH 13.3'
Intel® Core™ i5-3317U-1.7GHz,500GB SATA HDD, 8GB DDR3 RAM,W8

in lelong, it is priced at rm28++
*
With that spec i think u better go for Asus and save rn1k++. I think the trick with Asus is buy with with big retailer that handle warranty claims, like Challenger which i know they always send to Singapore for repair. ASUS got 2years international warranty should be np. Their stock also come from sg, last time when i put order.

Thanks nexus2238 for the lenghty info. YeahAMD driver issues... Neverending @@

I called one of the Lenovo shops about Y580.

The guy say add RM350 will get 16G RAM. And add RM50, get Win8.

Does it worth it or wait for Y500?

Thanks
*
Y500 is coming out when? Whats the spec and whats the price range? Compare with y580?

Gaming does not rely on RAM man  nod.gif
The GPU is the most important for gaming.
The Y480 may have a slow HDD, that one you can upgrade  to SSD or a faster HDD yourself later on when you have the budget. Same goes for the RAM.
Summore those two Lenovo are the most powerful gaming notebook for your budget... If they don't cut it, then nothing else does laugh.gif

True. 4gb is actually the sweet spot, dont let ppl tell u otherwise. Try some ram.usage software and see for urself how much u actually use

I got that gadgets that monitor my RAM. My current laptop is only 2 GB RAM and just on desktop, already running 32%

So I'm kinda like open multiple apps and really need more RAM

I've been searching this y580 59 351111

Can't find it   mad.gif
*
try running all ur usual software in the background and see how much u actually use. ive tried once long time ago open 20 tabs in firefox, run 2 games (winning eleven and Supreme Commander), open all microsoft office (excel, word, powerpoint), windows media player running mp3, as far as i recall the usage barely touch 3gb of ram laugh.gif

usually bottleneck comes first from the cpu and gpu capability, ram can do as much as it can, its only a memory module use to store temporary data. but then again more ram means u can alt + tab much faster i guess. its up to u how u wanna spend ur money lol. also, ram usage can build up over time if u game for a long period, and some programs simply unable to properly utilize ram efficiently.
