Specifications for local Y400/500 are already out iinm, if you can wait, better wait for those.

If you are buying in a hurry, then the Y580 would be good enough nod.gif
15.6"
Lenovo Ideapad Y580, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GTX660M + 1920x1080 @RM2999[JBL], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W7HBasic, backlit keyboard, 2 yrs warranty; *W8 (white) version upcoming

*use remaining money to upgrade the warranty to 3 years on-site

Hmmm... Y500 what is the spec?

Now no laptop cannot watch my XXX tape, my War Z, CS GO and my 2 most important things..

My resume and previous company info and my collection of music.. cry.gif

I called one of the Lenovo shops about Y580.

The guy say add RM350 will get 16G RAM. And add RM50, get Win8.

Does it worth it or wait for Y500?

Thanks

16GB should be just around RM250,
Win 8 for RM50, is quite right, $14.99 through the Windows upgrade promo..

What is the difference between upgraded win 8 and win 8?

If you have a license win7 (or vista, xp, ...), you can upgrade to win8 from microsoft website. The cost of upgrade depends on when you bought the earlier version of win. If you bought it between 2Jun12 to 31Jan13, the cost of upgrade is USD15. If you bought it earlier than the date range, I think is USD50.
The good thing about the upgrade is that you get Win8Pro. So if you have a machine with Win7HBasic, you can spend RM50 and get Pro smile.gif

The bad:
As far as I know, you need a base OS. That is, suppose you want to do a clean install next time (don't see why since Win8 has reset / restore feature, but just for the sake of example), you need to install your win7 first, then clean install the win8.
So far I have not tried getting a plain win8pro iso and see if the key from upgraded win8pro could activate it  laugh.gif
Have anyone tried?

Thanks bro. I'll might as well wait for Devour. laugh.gif

Finally, I have decided to get a Y580 instead of Y500.

The reason is that after looking into the options, no doubt Y500 allows add external graphic card but for me, not really wanna bring external card around. So, planning to get Y580 this few days.

Planning to get the blu ray combo and upgrade to 16 GB RAM and Win 8

Good for you man notworthy.gif
THe Y500 is quite expensive as well...

But since you have a good budget, perhaps it'll be better to get the RM3k Y580 (unless if Bluray is a MUST), then use the remaining money to get an SSD and also warranty extension.
You will get A LOT more performance boost by upgrading the SSD rather than the RAM  icon_rolleyes.gif

Grr.. Now decide to buy y580 and now no stock. mad.gif

SSD is better than RAM? Please explain. I upgrade my RAM bcos my previous laptop broken bcos lack of RAM.

It happen when I played War Z while playing iTunes song. So I suspect I fried my motherboard. But between SSD vs RAM, which is better? Tired of keep setting game at the lowest setting.

True. 4gb is actually the sweet spot, dont let ppl tell u otherwise. Try some ram.usage software and see for urself how much u actually use

I got that gadgets that monitor my RAM. My current laptop is only 2 GB RAM and just on desktop, already running 32%

So I'm kinda like open multiple apps and really need more RAM

I've been searching this y580 59 351111

Graphics maybe inportant but then again, laptop lifespan is 3 years.

So, rather upgrade RAM or SSD than graphic card. On a budget leh.. Saving money to buy car next year.

This laptop is "unexpected". tongue.gif

Paid RM80 to upgrade to 8 GB RAM. Then ask the shop wanna upgrade to 16 GB, he say the spec cannot be upgrade. mad.gif

I wonder who is telling the truth bcos called another Lenovo exclusive shop, say can. Cost RM 350.

Bro, Win8Pro is by Microsoft. Win8 has been launched in Oct 2012.
The facebook link earlier is for you to upgrade you Win7HB to Win8Pro for FREE  whistling.gif
Lenovo is giving you RM50, so that you can pay Microsoft RM50 to upgrade your Win7HB to Win8Pro  thumbup.gif

You have you wonderful machine. If you buy the preinstalled version, you only get Win8. Now if you choose to upgrade, you get Win8PRO  rclxms.gif  Enjoy yourself rather than getting pissed. Life is too short  icon_rolleyes.gif

You are doing engieering and play light gaming. It will NOT fill up the 500G HDD  laugh.gif

Anyway, yes there are specs with 1TB. Come with 8G RAM, and Bluray as well.

Ideapad Y580, i7-3610QM + Nvidia GTX660M (2GB) + (1920x1080) + Bluray@RM3599[JBL], 8GB, 1TB HDD(7200rpm), W7HP, backlit keyboard, 2 years international warranty

TJ's recommendation is the most bang for your buck  thumbup.gif

Just to chip in. You are on the road, and doing presentation? Bringing your own projector all the time?
Not mistaken, XPS 14 only has HDMI and DisplayPort, don't have VGA.
Lenovo T430s may not be as "pretty", but for business and travel, my opinion, no contest  icon_rolleyes.gif

Its very hard to find Blu Ray combo now. mad.gif

Everyone is clearing the RM2999 (Win 7 HB) model. mad.gif

But I admit, really value for money. thumbup.gif

Lenovo y500 is so tempting!

Any idea when y400 is coming? How about the price range?

I ask some shop. Coming on December. But this one, need to observe. Because of the GPU external card placement. I find it very "weird". hmm.gif
