Din't really hear much complaints on the warranty support of Asus in other countries, perhaps its just the management problem in Malaysia hmm.gif

Both the Y480 and Y580 are better than the Asus N56Vz (i5) nod.gif
And Y580 is much better than the Y480 nod.gif

1. Preferred Brand: Currently eyeing on Dell only, but Asus / Lenovo is fine. Strictly no Acer.
2. Budget: ~RM2k, flexible if required.
3. Usage: Normal office usage + development usage. Occasionally use it for gaming / multimedia works so dedicated card is a must. Tried laptops without cards and it's really doh.gif
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: Any.

Currently I have two models in mind-

Dell Inspiron 14r SE (i5 3210 + nvidia 640m) @ RM2050

or

Dell Inspiron 14r (i5 3210 + nvidia 620m) @ RM1599

About ~RM450 differences. I'm thinking if the 14r (620m) is good enough as I don't really game much on my laptop. It's just like when I really have nothing to do / out of home which then I will use it for gaming. Most of the time I'll be sticking with my desktop.

Any sifus have suggestions on which to buy / other model recommendations?

Thanks! notworthy.gif

I guess it all boils down to how much GPU power you want hmm.gif
If budget is not a problem, then getting the Insiron 14R SE would be the better pick. Not only does it have a better GPU, it has a faster HDD and better speakers as well nod.gif

Or if you don't mind those specification difference, you can opt for this one instead:
14"
Dell Inspiron 14R, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT630M@RM1899[2.38kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W7HP/W8

*if budget permits, do extend the warranty to 3 years onsite, otherwise no point getting a Dell nod.gif

Most sellers are only interested in ripping you off man, they don't give a damn about whether they are telling you correct stuffs or not nod.gif
And sad to say that there are a lot who really do not know much about computers...

If you are buying in a hurry, then the Y580 would be good enough nod.gif

*use remaining money to upgrade the warranty to 3 years on-site

Hmmm... Y500 what is the spec?

Now no laptop cannot watch my XXX tape, my War Z, CS GO and my 2 most important things..

You might need to look for it since its End Of Line-ed already.
The GT650M is better than the GT640M in the Dell. Don't be fooled by the amount of VRAM nod.gif

Hmm you are right.. that'll depending on how much GPU power I want.. guess I'll stick with the Inspiron 14 (i5 3210M + Nvidia GT620M) @ RM1599, since I don't really play games on my laptop. Save RM300 ~ RM450 laugh.gif

Yup, gotta take the promotion warranty extension (2-years accidental coverage @ RM179). Main reason I choose Dell is that I've used their laptop before (and still using right now); and compared to some of my friends (Brand A), I'm really grateful that I had chosen Dell. tongue.gif

Still, thanks for the suggestions!

Hi there,

Went to LowYat today with the Lenovo recs that was given.
However, I was bombarded from the sellers bout other models...
Wanted a Lenovo Z580.... was told I should get the Y570 la, G580 la, and even a Z585...
It went on and on with all their version of recs and extras....
So I ended only with more choices and different prices shown.

How do I know that what they are selling is legit wor?

If I wait till Dec and amass more cash, should I wait for the Y500 series that everybody
seems to be getting? smile.gif

*forget what your budget already

for that dell, the GPU is GT 640M while Lenovo y480 using 650M = better than dell inspiron
yet, nothing to do with the 2gb video ram, even my desktop using gtx 260 also just 896mb video ram only LOL

Dell warranty is on-site, thus much better than Toshiba's... but its only if you're covered, so try to extend the warranty to 3 years if possible nod.gif

1st rule- Never trust what the sellers have got to say laugh.gif All they want is your money, they don't really care whether you are getting what you need or not laugh.gif
Y570 is a very outdated and EOL-ed model, you can forget about that one... as for the Z585, its cheap, but driver issues has prevented the machine from performing as it should in terms of gaming.
G580 is a budget-line laptop with GT630M, which is weaker than the Y580 brows.gif

The Y500 release is just around the corner, so you'll be able to get that one in Dec icon_rolleyes.gif

Need some one to clear my doubts, following is my preferred criteria :

i5 / i7
4GB RAM (min)
External Graphic 1GB / 2 GB - minor gaming
HDD + SSD
15" (min)
Keyboard : prefer old keyboard type keys doesn't have space - eg: lenovo X series , alienwave (but no budget for this)

dislike : ACER

Brand experience :
Lenovo - Like the business series very much but have some doubts on consumer series
Dell - so far so good bought 2 for fam members
ASUS - thou Taiwan brand have faith in them cause desktop all using ASUS MOBO & GC

Sony , Toshiba , Fujitsu : no comment but Jap brand

Budget : 2k - 3.5k

1 more Q : does the new laptop that comes with Beats Audio , Altec or external sub woofer have better sound performance ? If it is significant hope to have this as well

Asus's double end fan for Gaming series sound interesting - it is very stable comapre to other brands at the same price ?
