QUOTE(kenlimfornication @ Nov 9 2014, 12:28 PM) Thanks for your recommendation. Was looking at reviews and saw Delonghis. Eco155 terrible, the 310 seem to have better review. At that level they generally made in China. All pressurize portafilter. They may not last so key is warranty and local service center support. What are the main things to lookout for? http://www.amazon.com/DeLonghi-ECO310BK-15...e/dp/B002Q0EE4U http://www.amazon.com/Philips-HD8327-47-Es...s/dp/B008H1FKEU |

I have Aeropress and Poemia. I like the coffee from Aeropress more. Maybe my bean is "aged". Coffee from Poemia is just ... ... dull.
Presentation wise Poemia coffee looks good (due to the pressurized portafiler). I ever removed the pressure thing to make it non-pressurized plus tamping the coffee. It had almost zero crema and tasted not much better too. As I said, the bean might be too aged. And I don't have a proper grinder too. Have a blade grinder only. Also I have difficulty frothing good milk with Poemia. Drank lots of milk from trial and error |

If you want beautiful crema, it has to be fresh beans. I guess anything around a month or more, should have degassed mostly.. If you're pursuing that Guiness effect, beans roasted and steeped in for 3-5 days would be the best. Anything before that.. you would get horrific bubbles at the crema surface.. (important if you're looking to create latte art).
Oh.. always grind your beans just before you're planning to extract it. Grounded coffee starts losing it's aroma within minutes.. |

But what if you want to make more or less? Here's a general guide to proportions by volume. Note that coffee beans are measured before grinding. 1 serving — 1 cup water (8 fluid ounces) — 2 tablespoons coffee beans 2 servings — 2 cups water (16 fluid ounces) — 1/4 cup coffee beans 4 servings — 4 cups water (32 fluid ounces) — 1/2 cup coffee beans 8 servings — 8 cups water (64 fluid ounces) — 1 cup coffee beans https://bluebottlecoffee.com/preparation-guides/french-press QUOTE We recommend starting with a 1:10 coffee to water ratio. So if you have 40 grams of coffee, pour in your 400 grams of water. |

Guys, beware during buying espresso machines from the US.
They used different voltage 110v. I bought Gaggia Classic thinking with step down transformer it would work. However, the step down transformer requirement of 1000W is very expensive and bulky. In the end, I returned both back to Amazon and Fry's Electronics. If you need to import, get it from UK or Aus due to same voltage requirement with Malaysia. EDIT : Unless the machine could accept 110v-240v, you're safe to get it. But it's very rare to have dual voltage because the boilers used are based on resistance heating. Different voltage, different heating element resistors value. This post has been edited by shakku: Nov 11 2014, 11:50 AM |
