I have this type of coffee machine :
![]() Question is; Can I buy the ground coffee bean from, say, Lavazza, and use it with my coffee machine ? ![]() ![]() And if I may ask, what are the 'keyword' I need to look for to see whether the coffee beans are suitable for my coffee machine? |

QUOTE(Eisenmeteor @ Aug 23 2014, 01:17 AM) I haven't personally used it before but IMHO it's not suitable for espresso (online reviews implicates that it won't grind fine enough). For drip coffee, i guess it could be adequate (if your main concern is budget). Don't think there's a suitable electric espresso grinder available for anything below RM400. If budget is the concern, get a Porlex hand grinder. |

Something from Baratza like below will dohttp://www.seattlecoffeegear.com/baratza-v...rs-redesign-586 This too http://www.visionsespresso.com/nuova-simon...grinta-grinder/ Prices have higher locally. There is one just under your budget http://www.cuppa.com.my/categories/Coffee-...Coffee-Grinder/ Misread thought u no plans to upgrade IF I plan to upgrade what's your budget? A grinder should be like 30% of your setup budget. This post has been edited by patryn33: Sep 28 2014, 01:34 AM |

I would suggest not to skimp on a grinder. The grinder is more important than the espresso machine.. try to get a stepless grinder that provides you with consistent grinds. If you're looking to get an espresso machine in the future, I would suggest that you invest in a good grinder now, then only the espresso machine

Can't say more. Grinder is the most important coffee making tools. Thus, I'm holding off my purchase until can buy good grinder. For time being, I'll stick with manual grinder.
Anyone going for caffa2014 this weekend? |

prices locally seem higher than sg, this place below does operate locally.
Besides going for stepless go for a small commercial grinder, where the burrs don't move when u take apart to clean. Selection kinda limited locally may have import say from oz. http://www.finecoffeecompany.com/coffee-machine-store/ http://www.coffeeparts.com.au/grinders/index http://www.segafredo.com.au/accessories/coffee-grinders This post has been edited by patryn33: Sep 28 2014, 01:33 AM |

QUOTE(patryn33 @ Sep 28 2014, 01:03 AM) Import.. I buy them from KF @ MyEspresso Cafe.. Ranging from RM29 - RM30 per 250g, depending on the type of beans. I normally go for Premio or Supremo.. Roast dates are normally from 2 weeks to a month. But usually less than a month since I consume my coffee like 500g in 2 weeks lolOh, and for Fine Coffee Company, they normally can arrange delivery to the border of Johor or something.. local tax for personal machine is crazy high.. Better to drive into SG and get it LOL. This post has been edited by mel5582: Sep 28 2014, 11:51 AM |

At your consumption, 1kg is RM120 from Australia to Auresso to your doorstep. Convenient for me in Kuching since it includes shipping from KL to here. I think the Baratza / Mahlkonig Vario is a grinder you should look into. Considering the grind retention and consistency, it's well worth the money. Maybe around 2.5k or less for Super Jolly grind quality

here I can find a used Nuova Simonelli MDX for like usd$350, change out the burrs for like usd$70 still under rm1.5k
64mm burrs but its tall wouldnt fit nicely under my counter. Vario kinda plastic and its 54mm ceramic flat burrs I like the mazzer mini 58 or 64mm steel burrs just no $$ for it and hard to find used. so I score the MDF for like us$250 (~RM820) since they are popular in cafe. with tim hortons and starbucks killing them can find such equipment rather easily. ceramic burrs last 2X as long but they chip rare. somehow I find more ppl here like the Mazzer and NS not really popular here in states at home. mostly cafe. good performance is impt and ease of taking it apart to clean to me is impt. if U can get those doserless. FYI: today is my national coffee day (great marketing) http://money.cnn.com/2014/09/28/news/econo...ay11aStoryPhoto This post has been edited by patryn33: Sep 30 2014, 01:12 AM |

I was initially using a Vario till I opted for an HG One grinder with 83mm titanium burrs. Practically zero retention, easy to clean, and don't have to worry about heat between the burrs. That said, I was very happy with the Vario too.. that's why I recommended it. I also saw the Baratza Forte available at PULP for around RM3.5k I think, that too is a good option if you're dosing based on weight.64mm burrs but its tall wouldnt fit nicely under my counter. But getting a used Mazzer in Malaysia is quite difficult though. This post has been edited by mel5582: Sep 30 2014, 12:38 PM |
