Is it true these type of corals have some sort of poison? Is 8 hours of light enough though?

Thanks for your help!

yes, there's some corals does has poison but it won't kill us (human) but to protect themsleves. for example; carpet anemone, it will inject some sort of mucus that ur skin will feel itchy after touching it.

for new tank like yours, i suggest just switch on the light for 5 hours for the first 2 weeks. cause it will cause algae problem

hope enjoy keeping ur coral reef tank smile.gif

Thanks! Here's how the tank looks like now. Happy to see that the corals are still alive smile.gif

For a 1.8 gallon tank like mine, do you think I can keep a single shrimp or snail to clean up algae? If so, any suggestions? And will these button polyps give any problems to the snails or shrimps?

Added on May 11, 2011, 6:44 pmAlso, is there anywhere that I can buy a Green Star Polyps? Looking for a small one.

Try to keep snails (2 is enough), shrimps need very good water condition & cold water temperature.
Or try to keep 1 algae goby... also

Water temp 26 degree. NO2 did not check, because just did 10% water change the day before buying it. But the thing is, its already like since it in the plastic bag before i place it into my tank.

bro urs is not really green star polyps.. but rather look like skin polyps. GSP has purple skin while the latter is white. i think they like high intensity lights and good flow to come out.. sometimes GSP takes long time to come out

Some new shots of the buttons. Have a hard time getting the correct colours via my phone cam. The button polyps should be purplish red.

I've also added 2 sexy shrimps since last week.

And I just saw that I have a hitchiker. It's a crab the size of a 10sen coin. Yellowish brown in colour. Will it threaten my corals and shrimps?

most people will take a crab out of a tank.. they may or may not eat ur lifestocks but they will definately create havoc for u..

they can dig holes in live rocks push coral down etc.. its pretty dif to get rid of crabs.

Got the last 2 from 88 Sunwaymas. I wanted to have at least 3 in the tank. 1.8 gallon tank, so I think I've reached my limit for lifestock.

Yes it is smile.gif 7.5in cube. Having experience with planted tanks helps a lot.

Anyway, am planning to have a 2ft cube tank. Is 4x24w T5HO ok to keep anemone? And is a skimmer really needed if I do weekly waterchange?

T5HO is one of the best alternatives for marine if ur on a budget. 2 feet cube means height is also 2 feet??
anemone depends on which type u going for.. some like it on sand but most like lights and flow. dont see any problems there

skimmer depends. some nano reefer dont go for it.. but in general most will get one.. if u feed too much u need to remove the waste from ur tank. a however small tank willl beniefit from a skimmer.
