Hi Megat,
I think u should upgrade ur filter to Canister filter which it has more space for ur bio ring to built up ur nitrifying bacteria more stronger... cause i believe ur water condition is not good enough, where ur ammonia or nitrites level is quite high.

If u see ur fish scales or fins rotes.... that mean it hasn't adapt to ur water condition or it has been infected by white spot. u should quarantine ur newly bought fish in a pail of fresh water for about 5 minutes before moving to ur main tank.

There should be no problem for u if u're moving ur bio ring at ur filter & there's no effect for ur coral sand & life rocks just for few minutes.
Have u tested ur water before buying new fish> such as kH & ammonia level?

Hi and thanks for replying,

Buying the test kit is on my to-do list for today, really frustrated to watch those fish die. The only living thing that still alive from the first day of setup is the snail. I don't have this kind of problem with my arowana before. BTW do u have any specific brand of filter canister? What about my tank temperature 28.5 - 30c, is it okay? i don't have plan for reef just FOWLR so should i add a fan? smile.gif

canister filter... depend on ur budget... if not, i will recommend u Eheim classic 2215.
yes, u should add a cooler fan to reduce ur water temperature if u're not buying a chiller because u're tank is FOWLR only.

does ur tank fixed with a protein skimmer? protein skimmer function is to extract un- used protein from ur water. in addition, it can help to provide more oxigen to ur fish besides ur filter system.

Yesterday i buy a canister filter RM80.00 RESUN Cyclone External. Surprisingly the canister filter motor got problem after a few hours of usage and i send the filter back to the shop and they want to replace with a new one but i say noooooo..... I will never believe that brand anymore. I ask him to change the filter with other thing and he agree so i take a KH and NO2 test kit.

By using the old top filter with powerhead, i have perfom the test. The KH is around 7 so i put in 2 spoon (2degreeH) in the tank. The NO2 test showing that quite critical reading, i put in half bottle of JBL Filterstart as advise by the shop owner. He also advise not to buy the ammonia test kit because i have pass that moment already and also to buy the NO2 test kit is better than NO3 because the NO2 reading is more accurate rclxub.gif

What did u guys think of this? Please advise....

TQ.

Hi bro,
The RESUN canister filter price might be cheap, but for me i would also won't trust the brand.
If you want to buy a canister filter, i would suggest another brand (China/ Taiwan made) for you which is QQ (model: 1000) or Dolphin (model: i don't recall it). The price for each items might be around RM200++, please ask for warranty period since some shop might give 3 months for the item bought.

Since your tank water kH is 7, you need to increase the kH for 2 degrees for 2 days.
In the period that your tank is building up the beneficial bacteria, you can add life rocks & 2 fish (Damsel only) to boost up. Also you need to put API stress zyme.

Yes, the shop keeper might correct also by buying NO2 test is better than buying ammonia test. But the test result will show the higher level at the mean time your beneficial bacteria is in progress. Test NO2 level for every 2 weeks, i believe that the NO2 level will drops to 20mg/l & until less than 5 mg/l.

If that happen, you can start to buy some fish from your lfs near by.

Hi again, yesterday my kh test is 12dkh and my no2 is 0ppm then i decide to go to lfs to buy some ls. The shop confirmed that the water perimeter is already okay to put in some ls such as damsel and chromis. So i bought 1 each... they managed to live until now but just now when i take a look at the aquarium i saw that the damsel skin look like peeling of and the chromis is shaking heavily.

Did i missed something here?

Hmm.... do the fish eat so far after u bought?
How did u put the fish into ur tank?
Do u put it straight away after reach home or u put in a pale of tame water for about 5 minute (quarantine) after reach home?

If u didn't put any corals... u can try to put melafix/ pimafix into ur tank, but not too much (the dose is half of ur calculation). Try to put it for 3 days, after that try to change 20% of the water.
After 2 hours of WC, u can test ur water salinity, kH & No3.

Hope this can help.

can use marine ich medicine just drip some in ur water. try to get a medicine with NO COPPER cause copper can accumulate and kill all your stuff.

best solution is get a quarantine tank, so your future fishes wont infect your main tank.

Noob to marine setups. Any decent shop that sells corals around PJ area? Thinking of adding a frag of zoas to my little experimental marine setup. Wanna give corals a shot.

Hi hi! Around Sea Park area. Just looking for a small frag for my 1.8 gallon. Yes. It's small. Can't convert any of my other aquariums to since they're all occupied and planted.

Went to subang and came back with a small frag of something that looks like sea mat or button polyp. Purple and reddish in colour under blue lights. Really beautiful. Not sure how to tell them apart. Got some fuzzy looking algae attached to some parts of its rock, though.

This coral's name is Button.... u can use forseps or ur fingers to tear the algae that grow on the rock (aside from the coral) in the salt water.

Hope this helps.
