Noob to marine setups. Any decent shop that sells corals around PJ area? Thinking of adding a frag of zoas to my little experimental marine setup. Wanna give corals a shot.

Hi hi! Around Sea Park area. Just looking for a small frag for my 1.8 gallon. Yes. It's small. Can't convert any of my other aquariums to since they're all occupied and planted. This post has been edited by SweetPuff: May 6 2011, 01:45 PM

If zoas are hard to find, any suggestions for soft corals?

Went to subang and came back with a small frag of something that looks like sea mat or button polyp. Purple and reddish in colour under blue lights. Really beautiful. Not sure how to tell them apart. Got some fuzzy looking algae attached to some parts of its rock, though.

Here ya go. The colours look much better than what the photo shows. It's pretty deep red.

Is it true these type of corals have some sort of poison? Is 8 hours of light enough though?
Thanks for your help!

Thanks! Here's how the tank looks like now. Happy to see that the corals are still alive For a 1.8 gallon tank like mine, do you think I can keep a single shrimp or snail to clean up algae? If so, any suggestions? And will these button polyps give any problems to the snails or shrimps? Added on May 11, 2011, 6:44 pmAlso, is there anywhere that I can buy a Green Star Polyps? Looking for a small one. This post has been edited by SweetPuff: May 11 2011, 06:44 PM

Some new shots of the buttons. Have a hard time getting the correct colours via my phone cam. The button polyps should be purplish red. I've also added 2 sexy shrimps since last week. And I just saw that I have a hitchiker. It's a crab the size of a 10sen coin. Yellowish brown in colour. Will it threaten my corals and shrimps?

Got the last 2 from 88 Sunwaymas. I wanted to have at least 3 in the tank. 1.8 gallon tank, so I think I've reached my limit for lifestock.

QUOTE(Namgor2006 @ May 20 2011, 11:08 PM) » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « 1.8 gallon? ur tank is very small Yes it is 7.5in cube. Having experience with planted tanks helps a lot. Anyway, am planning to have a 2ft cube tank. Is 4x24w T5HO ok to keep anemone? And is a skimmer really needed if I do weekly waterchange?

Yep. I think height is either 1.5 or 2ft. So hopefully the 4 T5 lights will be able to penetrate.

@Odinn Depends on what you plan to keep. Reef? Fish only? Or what type of corals you wanna have? On another note, I'm sorta disappointed my clownfish chose to hose an elegance coral instead of the other 2 anemones I have provided in the tank

Wah. Need chiller You are definitely staring at RM4k plus. MH Light and chiller will set you back a huge chunk already. I'll leave this for the more experienced sifus to let you know. I'm just a couple of months old newbie.
