my area also a lot of prius on the road .. and Prius C here got around 6-7 almost everyday can see PC .. while prius here everyday can see .. me too at first want to get the Prius but at second though dont want as it will attract some ppl to target us .. i have saw some on forum say at first they want to get PC but bcos of the long waiting list previously they change to prius ..

Here got any veteran owner? how do you convince yourself? Maybe some sifu or tai kor can teach how to explain to this group of drivers.....

You have come to the right forum. Here, we will brain wash you to get a PC (if it's in your list of consideration lah...)
I'm not a veteran owner, but I managed to convince myself when encountered those Qs...

1. New technology? It is not new, it's a seasoned technology. Just tell them that Prius' tech has been on for >10 years in USA, and Toyota HSD is already proven to be one of the most reliable technology. 10-yr old prius still in use reliably till this day in the states.

2. The savings may not worth the money paid? Of course you don't compare with kancil. Let's compare with Vios 1.5G (Vios beacuse those old folks usually already set their minds with Toyota)...

PC 97K
Vios 87K
Thus, PC +10K

Let's assume after 5 yrs the amount of fuel you used in Vios is equivalent to RM300 x 12 months x 5 yrs = 18K
And let's assume the amount of fuel saved in PC is just 1/3 of Vios
Means with the similar mileage with PC after 5 yrs: RM 200 x 12 x 5 = 12K
Means you save only 6K of fuel, means PC -6K
(Please bear in mind the more petrol you use routinely, the more you save with PC)

So, after 5 yrs, car price + total fuel expenditure:
PC 97K + 12K = 109K
Vios 87K + 18K = 105K
Means after 5 yrs you spent 4K more on PC (savings on fuel can't offset the money paid for the car, that's what those old folks think too)

BUT, then you decide to sell your car...
PC value, say 65K? (agak2 only lah)
Vios value 55K? (most 5-yr Vios in mudah.my ranging 48K-53K)
Minus the 4K you paid extra on PC after 5 yrs...
You get extra 6K after 5 yrs for PC vs Vios

Because the extra money you paid to PC partly contributes to the resale value, but extra money you spent on petrol in Vios DOES NOT contribute to resale value AT ALL


Not to mention with more money you get back after 5 yrs, you HAVE ENJOYED (what Vios 1.5G does not offer):
1. extra 5 airbags
2. VSC
3. Traction control (1-3 may have already saved your life)
4. Keyless entry with push start
5. quieter rideS
6. better acceleration with reasonable top speed
7. (Anything else anyone?)

Afterall, you are the one who's using the car, right? Ultimately you have to convince yourself, not to convince others...

Dude, battery technology had improve drastically these day. They still think Hybrid Battery are like the 12V car battery which need to replace every 1-2 years. I sold my Saga BLM after 3 years plus, the 12v battery never change & still in tip-top condition. Even my father 5 years old Nokia battery still can last for days, if compare to last time we change new battery every year.

Ask them, do you think other cars won't need maintenance & replace part? Think about the cost of replacing a gearbox & engine overhaul. My father's Perdana gear box need to replace every about 30k & cost 4k for re-con set, ori set I guess 10k.

You are getting a car for yourself, why spend so much time explaining & changing their mind set?

In earlier days, people look petrol engine car as moving timebomb, fear of killing themselves by the flammable fuel. But now no one bother about this anymore. 10-15 years ago, laptop so expensive & fragile; battery & repair cost will cost thousand. But now you see everyone own a laptop.

Well, everyone are skeptical about new technology but Prius C technology is not new at all. Its Toyota third generation for hybrid system and the first generation are still running at some place in the world. So why worry so much. With all those features equip in the car by Toyota, I think it safe for elderly people to drive. One more thing, dun worry we Malaysian are not the guinea pig for this, coz other place like Japan, US and Australia had long launched this model there. By now Toyota should had clear more of the bugs.. And its imported from Japan (with Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRC) system, Electronic Brake froce Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA) & Hill-start Assist Control (HAC)).....Not from Thailand!!!!!

Unfortunately Toyota have not include some features from the second generation like auto parking system into the third generation which they had in US. But who need those features in Malaysia, even they have it I dare not use it in Malaysia parking bay.

The guy who invented this toyota hybrid system is fantastic. Using the idea from the planetary system to make the eCVT gears are amazing.

I for my part calculated is worth bcos my mileage can be anyone here...
Bcos I mention before expected to reach 40k KM per year because
I travel everyday from Klang to Kelana Jaya, besides that I still go site in Klang Valley, minimum a day at least 100 to 120KM

I think my service is appointment date will be on the I get the car, I ll ask SA to book for for 1st service d....

Ok la, cross my fingers I hope I ll book the PC after 18 next month or not will miss all goodies given by the SA....

Booked Black PC in Sept....getting within this month after 18 Nov I presume....due to delayed shipment. Tried to request service/troubleshooting manual from SA but replied no such booklet.....True or not???

try search at priuschat.. in u.s they can purchase from car frame repair booklet to hybrid system manual book .

Our version dun hav Hill-start Assist Control (HAC).... Correct me if i am wrong.

hill start assist got on PC .. if u search on the net the biggest difference is on PRIUS .. australia have Prius i-tech ..which have a lot more function and their auto park not just apply to side parking..

But i can't see in their leaflet.... Btw, how do we activate it? Juz FULLY press down the brake pedal and wait for the some sort of slippery car LED lights up in the display panel? I hav tested it but need to FULLY pressed down the brake pedal then only it will show up. Thanks for sharing infor here.
