Worse people to ask about accommodation for people like us are people like them. Locals have families, parents who do things for them. Things which we need to do ourselves. They probably have access to a car, live in houses already fully stocked, perhaps have a maid.

When I first needed to find my own place to stay, my Singaporean relatives showed me places in Bukit Timah, Farrer Road, East Coast etc. Places with nothing nearby, little public transport and expensive. No problem if you have a car and looking for some quiet, near trendy areas like Holland Village etc.

As for Bedok Reservoir... you're not renting the reservoir. Why exclude the entire area? Afraid ghosts will come up from the reservoir?

There'll be iPads, watches, shoes, bags etc etc. There always is.
*
The other places I'm looking at would be Bedok North but they are more or less the same prices. SGD 1.6k to SGD 2k. I guess MY props are still hell lot cheaper to rent. Other places I'm not too sure whether my company would have shuttle coverage which will pick you up at your door step I would need to check it out. Are you renting now? or you already have a prop in singapore?

Nah, ipads, watches, shoes and bags are never in my list of to want. I have watches but the most expensive one would be a swatch and its like 3 years old. no ipads.. never a fan of steve job... only a china tablet which used for pps.. shoes? 1 pair of sport shoe and 1 pair of working shoe and same goes to bag. LOL.

Only thing would interest me would be BIKE, CAR, PROPS and HANDPHONES. Of course 1 up to date PC would do.

If you don't mind answering, what industry are you in? Or if possible, which company?

I'm beginning to see some belt tightening happening in the chemicals/polymers industry... mainly expenditure control for now, like travel restrictions, taking back company mobile phones etc. That's usually a precursor to retrenchments later on unless something picks up in the economy.

is it? i thought it is growing and gonna hire a lot this year.. forgot where i read about it liao

of course go fireflyz lah, ipoh nearer to go taiping than bayan lepas. the taxi might cut throat me so in the end take fireflyz. have to wait another 20yrs before high speed rail comes and see how laugh.gif

your estimate of utility is a bit high for 2 of you. mine 2 adult + 1 toddler is SGD100 but seldom aircond use. if it is a hot night or hot weekend , temp is set 26-27C only.

Anyone affected by the new budget? The tightening of the foreign workers and the higher levies and the lower FT:local ratio means there's going to a very big brake on hiring...

Some foreign worker layoffs soon? (but let's hope not)

Almost sounds to me like PAP is caving in to populist demands.

Was quite busy lately but couldn't help to reply to your posting.

I bought ticket for next CNY firefly at rm11xx+, SG to Ipoh. Same airports, Changi to sultan aziz or whatever it is.

Since last 2 years I have been writing to suhakam about route monopoly. Essentially route monopoly cannot be justified due to existence of other modes of transports to reach Ipoh and traffic rights constraint. Hence I was exerting pressure (well it was a tickle actually) on pricing discrimination on expectation.

Suhakam was interested in my plea and requested me to provide more info and evidence to support my allegation. But a lot of my time was spent on thinking whose responsibility is it to justify. I gave up after related searches brought me to lowyat kopitiam.

Hi all,

If my PR application got rejected, how will I be able to find out the reason?
Should I call them up or wait for letter?
I just checked online and found out the application was rejected. Kindly advise, thanks.

How long would I have to wait in order to re-apply again?

Reject means reject, lah. You call ICA also won't help, they won't tell the reason why you've got rejected. The application approval is at the discretion of ICA.

Wait for the official letter to come and read what is written on it. If they invite you to apply again after some period of time, then the reason of your rejection is simple - you haven't stayed long enough.

to my earlier post;

SINGAPORE - Companies in the chemicals, pharmaceutical and medical-devices sectors in Singapore are likely to see more hiring activity this year, according to the results of the Robert Walters Global Salary Survey 2013 released yesterday.

Aside from engineers, there will also be demand for experienced sales-and-marketing professionals and general managers in these businesses.

More job opportunities in the technical health-care sector are also expected, as Singapore is aiming to become a medical hub for the region.

The private-banking sector will also witness growth as the Asia-Pacific region continues to host the fastest-growing number of millionaires globally.

This translates to "increased demand for competent private bankers with an active list of ultra-high-net-worth clientele", the consultancy said.

Mr Christopher Liew, the head of investment for private wealth at PromiseLand Independent, agreed. "Private banking is one of the industries in Singapore that is experiencing sustained growth, and I expect this to continue for the next 10 to 15 years," he said.

The survey also found that more employers turned to contract staff last year. Robert Walters associate director Joel Hides said that the increased demand for contract workers is likely to continue this year.

ICA does not reveal the reason...probably to avoid loopholes being found and exploited (just me guessing)
for the rejection...try appealing...there are templates on the internet for you to try out.
my application is still pending...for quite some time now. unsure.gif unsure.gif
