Haha i thought capacitor all those need soldering? Thats y i scare i spoil it sweat.gif
If have plenty of experience and/or very familiar with soldering work then should be easy. Also the speaker system uses a single-sided PCB thus easy to work on and do not have to worry about solder stuck in through holes. May void warranty though... wink.gif

I'm playing thru my phone actually. But volume is near max la. Slightly more than 3 quarters. Woofer i place on the floor in a corner. The woofer (i believe its the place where air blows out) i place facing a wall 10 inch away untially. Now i try place at 6 inch. The side with the fence one got any requirements? U mean 3 feet away from where?
*
Some phones have pretty weak output (less than 2V peak-to-peak) and the audio output is designed more for headphones (for example, low impedance load only and Class D type with PWM output). The woofer is the big driver covered by a round grill (or "fence"). That's the part that should be facing the wall. Do not put too close to a corner. The place where the air blows out is the tuned port, which should be facing open air. As for the 3 feet thingy, that's the distance where you are sitting to the subwoofer. For your information, some subwoofers (usually non-down firing ones) have very little effect when sitting very/too close (right next to the subwoofer box itself). hmm.gif

Haha I not familiar with soldering work that's why dare not mod myself. But I have to wait for warranty to pass first anyway.

Ohh, so I should use my PC instead? Oh I see, I shall make those changes then. But I'm curios why some speakers dont have the woofer? Like the evo 7. It only has the tuned port (sorry I keep using evo 7 as example because thats the other speaker i have at home sweat.gif )

Also for those speaker with down firing woofer, do u mean their woofer at the bottom? Then wouldn't it be too close to the floor? I once own a Ego 3 and i think its those with down firing woofer hmm.gif

forget about buying HK3, it is a gentle type speaker.
if you are curious about how it sounds, pls test at retail outlets

bandpass design, meaning the woofer is inside the box. using bass reflex theory to create big bass from small woofer.

down firing is woofer at bottom, may have port or no port.
it use solid surface (floor) to recreate bass reflex

That's correct, down-firing subwoofers have their woofers at the bottom facing the floor. This creates bass reflections off the floor. A good example would be the Creative GigaWorks S750 subwoofer as found in my repair guide thread here: Special Interest -> Home Entertainment -> Audiophiles -> Creative GigaWorks S750 7.1 speaker repair. The Edifier M3300SF is side firing, thus that is why I've suggested positioning the subwoofer with the woofer facing the wall to create bass reflections... hmm.gif

I tested the P3080M and the M3400 just now. Bass sounds ok, just as weak as my M3300SF. Is it because of the wattage too low? 18W only for the P3080M sweat.gif But just now I heard the Amageddon A7 bass very nice, looking for a speaker like that thumbup.gif Its price RM350 only but related to Sonic Gear, thats why dare not consider hmm.gif

Not sure about your listening preferences especially bass, but may be different from person to person (which is why I've always suggested to test/audition the speakers first before buying). True low frequency bass is more like ambience, and hard low frequency is more like "thud" or "thump". The Edifier M3300SF has a tight and defined bass, which is why it is a thumper. Booming sounds isn't exactly low frequency and is an indication of loose and less defined bass. My guess is some people prefer the booming type bass... hmm.gif

Here are some tests that Edifier M3300SF should excel at. Try it out and see, plus use the PC instead of your phone... cool.gif

And there's a reason why many Creative GigaWorks S750 owners are looking to repair their unit, nowadays it takes a subwoofer costing RM2K to RM3K to match it. Even at low volumes, can literally feel the bass ambience... brows.gif

Yea you are right. Edifier bass like very tight like that and while I prefer the loose type actually sweat.gif And I played the 2 songs u posted. For the first one if i tuned up the volume, the bass was really strong drool.gif but yeah its really the 'thump' type sad.gif So I guess I'm looking for speakers with Edifier kind of sound quality and loose 'boom' bass.

Wow the GigaWorks S750 is crazy. 7.1 speaker. But does listetning to music actually utilizes all 7 speakers? hmm.gif

If the bass is too loose then sounds become muddy and lose its impact. Not easy to find a speaker system that can do both big thumps/thuds and nice booming sounds (with some compromises from the reproduction of both bass types). Not sure if you've seen the following video already, but it illustrates the difference in bass type between Edifier's M3300 model and the more powerful S530D model... cool.gif

Most of the music (from major labels) in the market is still stereo. There are however music with surround sounds (mostly in the New Age category). You should be able to find them... wink.gif

Edit: Some time ago, another forummer asked about feeling the "lack of bass" for one of the songs played, like the one below. Having a number of speaker systems around, I've tested it. This one requires a nice thumper like Edifier M3300. The Creative GigaWorks S750 also did rather well (because its powerful), but not the other speaker systems... icon_rolleyes.gif

I only know about M200MKII, it's poison speakers for vocal and intrumental, high & mid, for low bass it's a bit dumb, you need to plug the bass port of the 2 satelites to reduce bass ressonance. rolleyes.gif

Hi guys, I am new to the audiophile section, eager to learn more from the seasoned veteran here. Currently I am using an old school Altec Lansing ACS 45.1 and it still sounds ok to me but I want to look for an upgrade. My music ranges from club, house, TOP 40s, Techno, Rock and dubstep which are a bit towards the mids and lows and I like the bass.
Here comes the part I guess: 40% music 40% gaming 20% video
Budget RM 800
2.1 speakers
PS: Does DAC really helps?
Any suggestions or questions will be welcomed. Thanks! smile.gif

That's easy, go to the market place and go to the music instrument part. Look for swan /hivi, I think most of the dealer locate at KL.

My opinion, if ur budget is around 800, you got plenty of choice, if my interest is more toward bass and techno, I think edifier s530d or hivi m50w would be my 1st target. Audit both for ur self before you make any decision, trust ur own ear.
