If my Logitech z523 statelite got slightly bee buzzing sound when idle not playin anything , is it defect or normal?
Most probably the main filter capacitors has gone bad. My Edifier M3300 also started buzzing recently and found the two main filter capacitors already bulged. Thus decided to recap them myself (in fact change the rest of the capacitors at the same time). Now the no more buzzing, plus the noise floor also dropped significantly... cool.gif

wow you sure are good in those wiring and soldering ... i found a solution to my logitech z523 which is just simply change the location of the bass and correcting the wires then the buzzing is gone now.  icon_rolleyes.gif
My speakers were buzzing audibly even without any inputs (ie. all audio sources disconnected) and doesn't matter how it was placed either. All the main electrolytics were replaced, still haven't replaced the ceramics yet. cool.gif

guys i want to ask when i lower the volume knob untill like 5% only my main satellites got sound ( the one with volume and bass knob ) but no sound on the other satellites , when i go to speakers properties , both left and right speaker are balance , is this normal?
Nopes, not normal. Check the speaker connections. Could be dirty volume control pot. Does the sound crackle when turning the volume? hmm.gif

Resistors comes later, but the ceramics may be replaced first (with metalised film capacitors) since majority of them are in the signal path. Already can hear some improvements to the sound with the current modifications. Majority are Nichicons and few Panasonic. All those crap electrolytic capacitors (Unite, Yun Li, Acon) were totally removed. I gather those are Panasonic capacitors. Which model/series? wink.gif

The ceramics I had replaced a few in signal path, left most remain there coz I found it hard to find the values.
What brand were those replacements? Is it Wima, Dayton, Epcos, Sprague, etc? unsure.gif

QUOTE(Cosef @ Oct 8 2012, 08:17 PM)
The electrolytic cap I only used Nichicon in woofer power amp part and the rest are Panasonic AK and AM series which has very good specs for audio use.
The colors and markings reminds me of the old polarised Panasonic SU series (discontinued). As for Panasonic AM and AK series, can find very little information (seems to be discontinued also). The only model that is similar in Panasonic's current catalogue is the M series type A, though all are 85C non-low ESR capacitors. For power supply rails, I've used 105C capacitors as the amplifier section can get quite toasty... sweat.gif

QUOTE(Cosef @ Oct 8 2012, 08:17 PM)
I do like the mod, it is like bringing the speaker sound to another level.
Same here. Anyway rather than following the original values, some changes for areas such as the subwoofer low pass filter section. Now the lows can go much lower now (below 40Hz). icon_rolleyes.gif

QUOTE(jol lomi @ Oct 14 2012, 12:25 AM)
not necessary actually...i just need a good speaker within my budget...
If you're looking for a good speaker and not necessarily a portable one, then look for Edifier E3100. wink.gif

recently I was introduced to sound bar by a friend of mine. It was amazing sound. don't really remember the brand. for me like the same with 5.1 set up.

so is a sound bar really worth it or a 5.1 set up better?
Soundbars are for setups that have limited space. They do not sound as good as a real 5.1 speaker setup. Of course, 5.1 speaker setup is way better. wink.gif

I assume edifier m1360 is better than fiio n3 since its 2.1? But sacrifice the portability.
Btw where to get fiio n3. Couldn't find seller.
In terms of sound, yes the Edifier M1360 should be better since it has more wattage and has subwoofer (which gives a better low frequency and bass ambience). Small portable speakers tend to sound "thin" and less louder (more like a small radio box). If you have a small and very quiet room, then sound reflections within the room can sometimes cause small portable speakers to sound more expansive. Thus generally if you want good loudness and some bass, then always opt for the more powerful speaker system (which is that Edifier M1360)... hmm.gif

QUOTE(immessy @ Nov 11 2012, 12:01 AM)
For a budget around 200, edifier m3200 no good? Look nice though
For around RM200, better look at Edifier M3400. Looks can be deceiving, may not look pretty but sounds much better... cool.gif

Nopes, depends on the audio load. Unless you feed the speaker with a continuous 50Hz sine wave at FULL volume. tongue.gif

Hi there, anyone to share the following usage experience ? Which one the best for music and gaming ? All price around the same now (ie RM25x)  rclxms.gif

Edifier M3300
This Edifier model is more for music. Clean sound though slightly bright (ie. the treble is very pronounced). Any high frequency nuances can be heard. Some may find them a bit "too sharp" for their liking. With these speakers, no need to play around with audio treble nor equalizer settings to get the higher frequencies... wink.gif

QUOTE(Left4Dead2 @ Nov 24 2012, 04:34 PM)
Logitech Z523
Nice bass, but treble lacking (no tweeter). unsure.gif

QUOTE(Left4Dead2 @ Nov 24 2012, 04:34 PM)
AltecLansing v4621
This one is for bass heads (those who loves booming-type bass). Unfortunately it lacks clarity. With these speakers, you will need to play around with audio treble and/or equalizer settings to bring out the higher frequencies from the speakers... blush.gif

QUOTE(Exeunt @ Nov 28 2012, 08:27 PM)

zero knowledge about burning in speaker
Just play any music normally and at a comfortable volume. cool.gif

any tips to ensure the speaker last long??
Don't blast them at maximum volume for long periods... tongue.gif

That's hard to pick one out. I'm not sure if Edifier S530D, Edifier S730D or Altec Lansing MX6021 is up to par with this speaker. unsure.gif

Hi, I was wondering. Can u guys help me decide which is better, the Logitech Z103 or Edifier R101v.

Price wise, both are almost the same price. Or should i add the extra RM20 for the Edifier M1360?

Any comments is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Get the Edifier M1360... cool.gif

QUOTE(sleepwalker_00 @ Apr 12 2013, 05:37 PM)
Just bought Edifier C2X, nice design though, but the sound quality not very good, bass not strong, still weaker than my old Altec Lansing 2321.

Izit new speaker need some times to run in?
Aesthethics over functionality? Looking at the speaker design (including the subwoofer box size), and official specifications (especially the part "Frequency response: 55Hz-18KHz +/- 6dB"), I think this model is not bass heavy (some ambient lower frequencies missing and/or not significantly present). Anyway Edifier speakers feature tight bass (thud/thump) rather than loose base (boom). Even the cheaper M3300 and HCS2330 models should have better bass frequencies than this model (ie. from official specifications, lowest frequency for the M3300 is 45Hz and for HCS2330 is 38Hz). Depending on model, Altec Lansing speakers have slightly loose bass to give it the boom factor. wink.gif

This is because Edifier prefer invest the money on the sound quality than the look.
I wish Edifier would spend a bit more on quality components, especially on certain parts like the main power smoothing/filter capacitor. Speaking from experiencing badcap problem on my M3300 (low level buzzing), which I replace the capacitors myself (with Nichicons). hmm.gif

Please note that bipolar and dipolar speakers are different. Also dipolar (or dipole) speakers are favored for THX approved theatre sound systems (although many HTIB and run-of-the-mill home theatre setups ignores it). oh thank biggrin.gif  but actually how we can different between dipole or bipolar??
Speakers are the same, just wiring differences. Diplole speakers are push-pull type, with each side is the reverse of the other side (one side push, the other side pull) thus simply a matter of wiring polarity on the drivers... tongue.gif

You can check this review: Overclock3D :: Review :: Edifier M3300SF 2.1 Speaker Set Review :: Introduction and Technical Specifications. If you like the sound a little bright (high end trebles more significant) then the older Edifier M3300. icon_idea.gif

Because the Edifier had tweeters, plus wood (actually MDF) enclosures for the satellites. Tweeters can make a world of difference when it comes to clarity, ambience and atmosphere... icon_rolleyes.gif

i thinking of these four model, m1335, m1380, p2060 and p3060.....can i know the main difference among these and which one is better?
If you can still find ye olde Edifier M3400 model which retails at around RM199 (extra RM19 than your current budget), then that would be the one to choose. Alternatively there's the cheaper Edifier E3100, if you can still find it. Otherwise all of those listed have about the same or similar specifications, except the P3060 model which has different subwoofer speaker design... wink.gif
