Probably perhaps RvP was never played as a main striker spearheading an attack till last season. He has been playing as a winger/supporting striker his entire career. Always thought he is a very good player and would have scored lots of goals even as a supporting striker if not for his injuries.

Yes and no depending on how you look at it. He has a Champions League medal. If he had stayed, he'd only have won a League Cup. That being said, I miss the Torres bounce and chant. One of the coolest in recent history.

Contrary to popular belief, he isn't exactly a backup bench player at Madrid. Mourinho highly values his work rate, consistency and ability to play on both sides. He was at first predominantly used as a rotation player for both Ramos and Marcelo but no longer. Now with Ramos and Pepe at centre back, Arbeloa is a first team regular right back for Madrid. He even made Spain's first 11 with Puyol out with Ramos and Pique at centre back.

Actually he's bought as back up then. Nothing more nothing less. Just his luck that Ramos shifted to CB & there's opening in RB. Credit to him for taking the chance with both hands. Same goes for Spain.

He was brought in as a utility player, didn't he play LB for a significant amount of games for Madrid?

He will not cost $20m. Who wants to pay that much for a player with 6 more months left in January in his contract and can go off as free agent next season? Plus, dont forget, Llorente can reject the offers and wait to be a free agent. The club have no choice but to accept any offers even if it's $5m or $6m. It's either that or nothing.

For a player who is playing for Athletic Bilbao for so many years (a team that dont achieve anything) and suddenly want to leave, there's only 1 thing to get him here. Money! First team football, 90K a week plus goal scoring bonus and Spanish contingent to help him settle down.

I dont see why he wont choose us unless Man City or Chelsea step in with 150K a week.
