Good luck with that. Talk is cheap though. I once tried collecting as little as 20 bucks from Liverpool fans for Hillsborough. My friends and I were auctioning off our merchandise and some art pieces of LFC to raise funds for the campaign and no one seemed interested at the viewing party we organised. Now if you don't donate to Hillsborough which is way more important than donating to fund the transfer of a player, I have to question ones priorities and commitment.
Mellor was released because he had the mobility of Sami Hyypia, and forwards these days need a bit of pace and agility. He scored a wonder goal against Arsenal but had very little else to boast. Last I remember he ended up at Preston but that fact that I've no idea where he is now suggests it was a good decision to release him when we did. The lad was slowwwww.
*
He was injury prone and was very unlucky about it. Forced to retire early iirc.

Ok seriously. Stop with the Downing jokes please. A left back? BR must be quite high when he made that call.
*
He did ok when he came on and we need a backup as Robinson still lacks the edge for the first team, so why not? If he could reinvent himself as an attacking fullback, I'm all for it.

It's not a joke and it's clear BR wasn't high either, so maybe you're the one that's missing out on something?

I blame Comolli. Ever since he came, our control of figures screwed up. Maybe Newcastle asked for $45million for Caroll and we managed to bargain down to $35million. So when Fulham ask for a straight forward honest price of $7million, we thought we can bargain down to $3million when it doesnt work that way. LOL. biggrin.gif
*
FYI, Comolli isn't here anymore. biggrin.gif

Hey guys, got article said can recall Andy Carroll. Is that possible?

In January... what's the point though? We could sign someone else in January as well. yawn.gif

I can just imagine it. Carroll starts banging goals for WH, gaining tremendous form. We get all excited and recall him in January but only for his form to deteriorate yet again.
*
He suits Big Sam's team, really. Can imagine him doing well but honestly, I actually hoped that he went somewhere else to develop his game. In the past half year he has demonstrated his willingness to learn and the ability to break for his one-trick-pony stigma. Shame that he injured himself in the first game too. =/

Last season's signings were full of fail? Nah, it is the way we handled them.

AC, 30 million wasn't it? Lacked confidence, but improved and was on his way to regain his form towards the end of the season. Played and scored for England too at the Euro's no?

This season, discarded and loaned out.

JH, widely reported to cost 20 million. Hailed as one of the best players in Sunderland and a promising talent all round. Played out of position all season. Most likely intimidated by huge signing fee.

This season, used or tried to be used as a makeweight to sign someone of lesser monetary value.

SD, 20 million iirc. Delivered what he was bought for. Sadly the 0 goals and 0 assists stat line makes him an easy target although everyone conveniently forgets that he created 55 chances.

This season, was put on the 'for sale' bin all season.

Oh ok, getting rid of CA i'm okay with. sweat.gif

I'd say it here out loud.

So far, to me Brendon Rodgers has proven himself to be no more than a class A Idiot. Is this management? You discard all your expensive pieces  cheaply just because they do not fit you system? Stupid.

My bookeeper is not up to scratch. Do i keep him around until it is confirmed that I have secured a replacement or do I get rid of him now and leave the position vacant? Who then manages the books for me?

You were hired to make the most of our limited resources. Period.
*
So out of the expensive pieces you have listed, who was actually sold?

NONE.

BR has stated had he knew he wouldn't get the 1-2 signings he was expecting, he wouldn't have let AC out on loan. It wasn't his fault that somebody above him botched this up. Get your facts right before you criticise.

Oh just to clarify, when i say discarded i don't mean benched. I mean unwanted, put on the trade block.

I speak from experience really. When i came into the company i am currently at a year ago, we promptly got rid of an underperforming staff member in one of the departments. We have yet to be able to find a proper replacement for her, and things are still kinda FUBAR there.

I contrast, for the second department i had to revamp, there were a number of underperforming peeps. Didn't take the 'you suck, get lost' approach this time round, and took the time to come up with a system that best suits their strengths and abilities. Trained them, coached them, cajoled them buggers. It wasn't easy, and things still aren't as smooth as I want it to ultimately be, but it's still better than the first department. Replacing the parts imho is a cop out.
*
The failure of the first department is due to the inability of the management to replace the girl. If the position the girl held was difficult to replace, you don't get rid of her in the first place. Since they've decided to get rid of her, they must have felt confident of seeking a replacement.

We did not replace Carroll properly and now the squad is left bare. If I'm BR, I would be bloody pissed at false promises given.

Anybody posted this yet? I urge everyone to take their time to read this:

The more I listen to his interviews, the more I'm impressed with Brendan Rodgers. Some say our best signing over the summer was him, it's hard to disagree.

I don't know about you guys, but what I saw last weekend was there was more patience in the final third. More patience equals to more chances created. In the 2nd half of the match, at least.

We still have a few issues to sort out (Skrtel's brainfarts, Suarez's poor form and the lack of a decent LB) but it's coming together, slowly but surely.

Bring down expectation that staying at 16th in the table?  sweat.gif

The performance of recent match is not something to be happy about.
23 shot on goal, 6 on target against Sunderland, sums up the problem the team current has.

As said for another 3-4 matches still can score or can win, we may be more impatient fans. No offence, but reality can blame totally the fans.

The team may have lot of possession, but real threat to the goal is not as good as possession stat shows.
*
Mind you, Brendan Rodgers took over a team who had a very poor year under Dalglish. What was the record again? 11 league losses in 2012, isn't it? It was relegation form.

Anybody expecting BR to turn over the team in a short period is having unrealistic expectations. If there are fans who start moaning after 7-8 games into the season? Sorry, but these people do not fit to be Liverpool fans.

It's because it is a human disaster where many innocent lives were lost. This transcends even the strongest of rivalries, it's no longer football, it's lives we are talking about. There's nothing more valuable than life in LIFE, not even football. Credits to SAF and Everton FC.

Those monkeys chanting at Old Trafford put shame to their beloved MUFC and are not fit to call themselves fans of football. Disgrace!
*
Unfortunately, fans like those exist in all quarters even in the Liverpool camp. Songs about the Munich disaster come to mind.

While I applaud United for condemning the actions in public, it's best to just ignore those 'fans' and focus on what is important - which is the fact that justice is finally being served and the families are finally getting the treatment that they deserved 23 years ago.

I like it a lot. Coz u can see the personal side for the players and manager. That's refreshing after watching them in purely football setting.

I'm still watching it and LOLing at the scene where Jamie Carragher's practising yoga and meditation. laugh.gif

I miss the Riise in his prime, not the one we sold, maybe it's just me but I can certainly understand why Rafa sold him. What I don't understand is that position has never really been filled since he left. Dossena came and go like the wind. I thought Insua was pretty decent, don't know why we sold him, would've done well as a backup if not a starter.
*
Because the current England manager thought Paul Konchesky was a good replacement. laugh.gif

Actually he's bought as back up then. Nothing more nothing less. Just his luck that Ramos shifted to CB & there's opening in RB. Credit to him for taking the chance with both hands. Same goes for Spain.
*
He was brought in as a utility player, didn't he play LB for a significant amount of games for Madrid?

Love Rafa, but it's about time we stick to a manager for beyond the first 2 seasons. Hit the reset button enough and we'll stuck in this rut we can't get out.

Speaking of Rafa, he has a book out titled "Champions League Dreams". Here's a nice short interview with him:

I just love it when he speaks. Kinda miss his sarcastic remarks to the press. thumbup.gif

Nice to see Pacheco back in the line-up, was worried that his development stalled after an unlucky season. Hopefully he and Suso impress tonight, looking forward to seeing them. Assaidi and if possible, Yesil too.

Very impressed by Suso, Sahin and Wisdom. Assaidi was promising.

The 2 senior players were poor though - particularly Enrique and Downing.

Nice run by Borini for the 2nd goal. biggrin.gif
The substitution of Borini gave us presence in the final 3rd and made the difference in the end.

Overall, enjoyed the match and good performance from the team. Promising debut for Wisdom and Suso, the former was very composed and solid defensively. Henderson and Sahin put held themselves well, although you do miss Joe Allen or Lucas who could have relived the pressure off the back 4 in the final 10 minutes. It's Young Boys though, both players are expected to do well.

On the other hand, it was depressing to see Carra and Enrique attempt at what they call defending. 3 goals that could have been avoided easily.

Bring on United!

Is he like your new Insua now ? haha. He was quite good i thought. Took on his fullbacks a few times and had one decent effort i think. That's more than i can say about Downing, who was really disappointing tonight.
*
Disappointing is an understatement. laugh.gif Though he did look better when Borini came in.

Assaidi was promising, but you know how wingers are like. They could look explosive and threatening in the first few matches and then fade away to oblivion. laugh.gif Nah, I think he will come good.

Liv seems doesn't know how to keep a clean sheet since the season start....  sweat.gif

I wouldn't pay so much attention. All the goals conceded are either down to individual mistakes or due to players trying to adapt to the new system. Things like this can and will be ironed out as we progress.

Last night we conceded 3 goals that could have been easily prevented. 2 of them were down to poor performance by Enrique & Carra. The 3rd was a soft one, imo Coates should have headed the cross out of danger.

QUOTE(sKyWiR3pT3lTd @ Sep 21 2012, 10:57 AM)
Assaidi was not impressive given this is his 1st game. Not many movements i could highlight of, he had a shot off target.
He needs game time too
*
What? Assaidi not impressive and Downing played well? Are we even watching the same game? shocking.gif
