The process guy should come out with confirmed design P & ID before pass to Piping i believe?

The planned vs the actual.

I just completed IDC on mechanical package and I was the first to be asked to check it, and I'm electrical. It's a mad world out there.

Hi guys,
I am new for this forum. Currently, I am working as project engineer in telco main contractor company. My background is E&E. I am seeking opportunity in O&G. Do I have any chance from telco to O&G? Which area should I apply?
*
It depends on your skillset. Do you know the telecom requirements for an offshore facility?

hye there sifus.
i'd like to know what are the basic requirements to work offshore?  things like bosiet, osp and so on.would someone care to elaborate? i'm thinking of going for bosiet next month so that i'll have a chance to go offshore if my company permits.
thanks smile.gif

Most basic requirements in Malaysia are
1. OPITO-approved BOSET
2. Valid medical report from approved clinic in Malaysia

Additional requirements are
1. OSP
2. PTW
3. Competency Card
4. LPS
5. Boat transfer

If your company thinks that you can go to offshore, they are the one that supposed to facilitate you, not the other way around.

If you are expecting a job offer through here, you may have to revisit your expectation. As far as I know, this thread is to give some ideas about the careers in O&G. Job opportunities do come but they are like once in a blue moon. Plus, I think you can give better impression and higher chance to get a job if you contact employers directly. To my knowledge, no employers would hire anyone that only provide their lowyat.net id and their area of study.

See my reply above. He is prolly in the same boat as you asking about the same thing.

You can try reading back the previous versions on this threads so that you can get some ideas on which discipline suits you best.

i didn't know as of 2012, warleyparsons is bigger then technip and aker solutions in terms of people worldwide totalling 40,800. one big family.

also has the most offices worldwide compared to the two.

but all in all, the 3 don't come close to other major oil and gas service companies like Schlumberger, Halliburton, Baker Hughes and so on.
*
Thanks for the information. Based on what I am experiencing now, bigger doesn't mean better.

who else here working with CLient side? how the feeling and working in client side..i have experience as main contractor EPCIC and now thinking to new growth as a Client side. but based on my observation client side is more boring whereby too much meeting and management, anyone else can share experience from client side?

oh by the way, client is referring to major operator such as Petronas,Shell,Exxon,Talisman,Exxon etc

There is no weird nor funky ritual like dancing around bonfire that you have to do if you would like to enter O&G. Just like any other industries, all you need to do is to apply or respond to job vacancy ads. If you would like to work offshore, you need to be fit and have a good BMI. Other info (i.e. companies, SOW & etc), you have to read back those previous versions. Some have done it and they find it worth the time.

why o&g? at the first place.

if you seriously like crazy workload and unforeseen stress,
lucrative remuneration only apply if you above 5 yrs experience
with minor site jobs such as freelance work leader and freelance jobs.

for my advise, you better search for E&I, as it should be related to us.
i'm electrical power but dealing pipeline, and i know nuts about it doh.gif

Excuse me but why does one need to be fit and have good BMI if one were to work offshore? Does every OnG company follow this rule or is it just a specific rule set by a company?

Where? Usually a TA is for non-degree holder so you cannot expect a high salary.

Added on November 25, 2012, 9:26 pm

myhug .... I remembered you were one of the loyal poster in this thread and finally managed to get a position in O&G so get as much experience as you can (go overseas if you have the opportunity). I suspect your line of work involves a lot of hands on and hard work (meaning, dangerous line of work right?) so once you're ready to settle down ... get a girl la and with your experience I'm sure you'll be able to move around in the industry. trust me once you get 5 years in O&G, people couldn't care less about your degree or whatever ... they will only be interested with the skill you acquired on the job.
*
any advise for TAs?? actually im TA somewhere around miri (shipping)...degree holder. icon_question.gif

What important skillset as requirement? I did not know telecom requirements for an offshore facility. Currently, I am doing project for DiGi and Celcom. In my company, I cannot find path towards O&G since it only focus in telco.

At offshore facility, you need to walk a lot, climb stairs a lot, work at least 12 hours/day, 7 days a week. So, you need to be fit but not Arnold Susahnakeja kinda fit. It is a requirement for you to pass the medical check-up, not something set by companies.

You also have to know that the medical treatment at offshore is very limited. Getting a chopper is not like getting a taxi at shopping mall especially during monsoon.
