hi guys and sifu.
what position in sapurakencana (originally sapuracrest) always go to offshore? is it project engineer? field engineer?
i dont really like to work in office, im more to field/site job smile.gif

please reply thanks.
*
If you like to be at offshore...field engineer will be the best position to you... but bear in mind, there are no chance to stay in land once u confirmed as FE. U must be tough physical and mental.

Once more, fresh field engineer hired by Sapuracrest must be oversea graduate with excellent result. That is what is hear and saw.

who else here working with CLient side? how the feeling and working in client side..i have experience as main contractor EPCIC and now thinking to new growth as a Client side. but based on my observation client side is more boring whereby too much meeting and management, anyone else can share experience from client side?

oh by the way, client is referring to major operator such as Petronas,Shell,Exxon,Talisman,Exxon etc

20 hours is crazy.

Longest for me was 14-15 hours. Worst part is we were all sleeping on the deck at night, and the afternoon heat, too many of us to have shelter. Got really tanned.

Helicopter crash lands in North Sea,19 people rescued: British coast guard

The Associated Press

A helicopter ferrying workers from an offshore oil rig crash landed in the North Sea on Monday, British coast guards said, adding that all 19 people aboard had been rescued.

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency said in a statement that the Super Puma aircraft went down on its way back from a Total SA-operated rig about 50 kilometres southwest of the Shetland Islands, a Scottish archipelago deep in the North Sea. The CHC Helicopter Corp.-operated aircraft was still floating on the surface of the water when all its 19 occupants were picked up from their life raft and brought aboard a nearby tanker, the coast guards, said.
They were later flown to the Orkney Islands, a little further south.
Energy companies regularly use helicopters to move their workers to and from the offshore platforms that dot the North Sea, a vast and often unsettled body of water which lies between Britain and Scandinavia. Safety has long been a concern and Super Puma aircraft have come under particular scrutiny following a series of accidents and near-misses.

Earlier this year, air operator Bond Aviation Group suspended some of its flights after a Super Puma crash landed in the North Sea. In April 2009, 16 people died when a Super Puma en route to the Scottish city of Aberdeen plunged into the sea when its gearbox failed. Only months before, another Super Puma had gone down over the North Sea — although in that case 18 people were rescued with only minor injuries.
Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond said in a statement that the latest incident raised “understandable concerns” which he hoped would be cleared up by an investigation.

Union official Jake Molloy echoed the statement.

“We need to provide assurances — not just to the workers but to their families — that the primary means of transporting them to and from work is safe,” he said.

hey guys...it's me again, i have a question..

why for shop drawings, there exists two types of drawings, one is "normal" shop drawings and another is NDE shop drawings..

Can anyone explain to me what is NDE and what are the differences of both drawings? thanks.

Added on December 8, 2012, 11:04 amand guys, I saw lot of students asking about civil engineering  opportunity in this industry.. to answer your question..there are tonnes! I myself am a graduate civil engineer working on a client side for only 6 months..more to learn..hehehe anything can ask me..
*
NDE or NDT drawings is required after the welding activity and NDT such as MT,PT, RT,UT. There also will indicate how much percent need to do NDE inside the drawings. That is how the NDE drawings appear.

Yeah, and the inspector usually uses a highlight pen to indicate the areas which he did the test. Last time i had to inspect the steam turbine module for one FPSO ship, the project engineer wanted to impress the owner of the vessel so he requested the QA/QC department to change the percentage from the usual 20% to 100%. God damn singaporean.
*
That is call to much impression rclxms.gif . Normally in codes and standard it indicate how much percentage, but of course some of people would like to show more impress to Client and gives more confident regards to the quality matters.

Remember high quality will comes with high cost. No harm if the project have a lot of budget. Hehe icon_rolleyes.gif

QUOTE(heero yu @ Dec 17 2012, 10:32 AM)
Hello forumners,

i would like to seek your generous advices and solutions as I am very mentally demotivated and honestly saying sometimes up the extend of very extreme sad.. To explain my situation, I start from this.

I am graduated with a degree in Applied Geology. All this time my dream of working is working in the oil and gas industry. BUt first of all, I obtain a job as a geologist in one of the Geotechical company. After working for like 6 months, I receive a phone call from a mud-logging company (oil and gas). So i went for the interview and pass the interview and got the job as Trainee mud-logger, so i resign from my previous geologist position. However, things dont go really well from that point. So being in a Trainee Mud-logger, we have to pass the offshore medical checkup which i did not pass due to my hereditary diseases pass down by my family (I know my disease when I am small). But the company is very lenient to still employ me but promise me there be an onshore job (international based) in Sept. When the month come, it is then postponed to Nov/ Dec (informed by email). When i asked again, it is once more postponed again to next year 2013 (could be Feb, March or even April) which of course not sure also.

So more to say I am employed with no progress and experiences and stucked for like how long already. I been trying to apply to any oil and gas companies even geotechnical and i dont even mind to start working as technical assistant or document controller or etc.. As long as the companies willing to give me the opportunity and I will surely learn.. But which really angers me that each companies want experiences.. all want experiences and not even wanna a phone call for me to interview me or perhaps to understand my situation..  I am so demotivated and sad.. I know perhaps is a lesson for me and i regret it.. life is a learning, so that we can grow up.. What should I do now, my fellow forumners?

(If you think no such situation exist and dont wanna to believe, you can choose not to believe. But is the true fact and I am experiencing it now.. and having a hard time already.. )

Thank you for your advices and understanding, my fellow forumners..

(For confidential and safety purposes, all the companies I keep it confidential)
*
Sad to hear that, however take as lesson learnt..life must goes on...sometimes we cant get whatever we think. think positively and start looking around the job, however you need to keep patient and try to learn something at least from this company. It is not necessary to learnt whatever you think, it is important at least to learn behind your thinking.

Yup there are many offshore people now turn over and start working at shore, normally inspector. They got good package during offshore (30k-100k) but cannot afford to stay in offshore about 2-5months.

They choose working as fabricator as inspector with 5-6k per month but they told me as long as happy and get to see family it is enough.

However it depends on individual and what we want in the career.
