QUOTE(jonchai @ Oct 1 2012, 09:37 AM) In terms of specs, only the processor and graphics on the L920 lose to iPhone 5. That is only important if you are a benchie geek, where points matter above all else. damn prolly the psu and gpu will surely effect the laggy-ness right ?Also, iPhone 5 is more light weight, around 72g lighter than L920. L920 on the other hand has superb camera, wireless charging, NFC, super sensitive screen, higher-than-retina display and clear black technology. So, make your call ill still go for wp8 although theres not much demand on the apps and the accesories. true bummer but the wireless charging. salute ma maann |

QUOTE(aiqal @ Oct 1 2012, 04:16 PM) damn prolly the psu and gpu will surely effect the laggy-ness right ? To me the wireless charging is the least beneficial feature 920 has to offer. It's cool of cz but can't see the real point in it. And based on wp7, wp8 doesn't need quadcore 2.0ghz whatever processor to run smooth. Using inferior hardware it's fluidity and speed is already on par if not better than iphone. Apps will come if wp8 proved to be a hit.ill still go for wp8 although theres not much demand on the apps and the accesories. true bummer but the wireless charging. salute ma maann Right now the only thing that could stop me from getting it is crazy pricing. We'll see. |

If the price is crazy, don't worry. You are probably not the only one thinking so. When respond is bad, the price will drop. Just be patient.

QUOTE(aiqal @ Oct 1 2012, 04:16 PM) damn prolly the psu and gpu will surely effect the laggy-ness right ? Well, just to correct you on certain term, processor is often called CPU, not PSU. CPU stands for Central Processing Unit (processor). PSU stands for Power Supply Unit, often seen in desktop PCs to convert AC voltage to DC to power your rig.ill still go for wp8 although theres not much demand on the apps and the accesories. true bummer but the wireless charging. salute ma maann I don't think you'll even feel the lagginess. While having a bloody fast processor may seem like a good thing, in reality it really isn't. A faster processor requires more power, thereby killing your battery. On the other hand, L920 is equipped with a Snapdragon S4 dual core 28nm (if I'm not mistaken). This is the second generation of S4, with higher transistor count, thereby reducing "leakages". I'm not E&E engineer, this is the max I can tell you without having to go through books. On top of that, since S4 itself is a chipset (processor + board + SoC), I believe there's more to it than just a faster processor. Perhaps better 4G connectivity? I'm not too sure. On top of that, WP as an operating system itself is very much optimized to run efficiently. If you're the privileged few who have the chance to run Windows 8 RTM, you'll know what I mean. And since they share the same Kernel, WP8 will most likely be smooth as silk as Windows 8. We can also make a comparison. Bring an iPhone 3GS with iOS 6 and compare it side by side with any WP7 phones. Why iOS 6? It's simply because Apple allows them to upgrade which means that they are certified to run. So we can compare how efficient both platforms are. Although it's not much of an indication, at least it is something to look forward to. As for apps, you don't have to worry. As of this writing, many major game developers are already porting their games to WP8. Unity has agreed to bring their engine over. I foresee more will follow suit. The main reason WP7 lacked apps was because some idiots at Microsoft thought that it'd be a good idea to implement a walled garden. No doubt, in terms of protecting the operating system, it's a good approach. But look at where it got them? WP8 will change all these with native code access, meaning most developers who have developed their apps using native code (C++) on other platforms will then be able to effortlessly bring their apps over with just a few minor tweaks. If you're in for games, you don't have to worry. WP8 also offers a subset of direct X 9. That means, even PC / Xbox game developers will be able to jump onto WP8 bandwagon with little to no learning curve. To me, wireless charging is Nokia's approach to youngsters. It gives youths the "Me first" factor. It's cool to be able to charge your phone without cable, don't you think? I can even show off and say, heck, I can place my phone here and it starts charging. Can yours do it? No? iPhone sucks. Pointless feature to me, but hey, I don't call shots. Hope it clears up for you. |

Right now the only thing that could stop me from getting it is crazy pricing. We'll see. Advantages of wireless charging: 1. Especially with Coffee bean signing up to provide wireless charging pad at Coffee Bean outlets will allow wireless charging for supported hand sets. If your phone's battery is dying, you can conveniently place the phone on the charging pad while having your lunch for example! This is especially usefull if you have important phone calls to make. No one carry their charger with them. VERY FEW carry USB charging cable with to allow laptop charging. Even less people carry around a spare smartphone battery. 2. With wireless charging, you do not keep on plugging and unplugging charging cable from your phone greatly reducing chance of spoiling the charging connector on the phone. I have personally experienced this on my motorola handsets. A charging pad can be permanent plugged to a socket. You just turn the switch on if you want to use it. 3. For users of multiple smartphones, more than one phones can be charged at a time. 4. Great designs of charging pad. the fat boy charging pillow for example - with its soft surface - making scratching your phone almost impossible. 5. Bragging right. Its cool. its something that an expensive iphone is too dump to do. ____________ So Tim Cook, i am not a CEO of the company of the worlds most used smartphone yet I managed to come up with five advantages of wireless charging to PROVE that you are WRONG. Wireless charging is NOT pointless as you have said so! |

QUOTE(g5sim @ Oct 1 2012, 08:42 PM) Err from how u take this personally, who's actually in a 'herd'? I didn't even know Apple say it's pointless. It's lovely that u like it. Really lovely. Nokia needs followers like u to survive. I mean it's about time, Apple has had it for years! On a serious note, I welcome wireless charging but that's not why I want this phone. There are plenty other features in 920 that matter more to me. |

QUOTE(g5sim @ Oct 1 2012, 08:42 PM) just because Apple said its "pointless" now the entire herd is saying that its pointless? I beg to differ. While what you said may have some merits, especially for number 4 and 5, it's still the least useful features among all. It's also because of wireless charging that caused L920's weight to skyrocket.Advantages of wireless charging: 1. Especially with Coffee bean signing up to provide wireless charging pad at Coffee Bean outlets will allow wireless charging for supported hand sets. Wireless charging is NOT pointless as you have said so! As for number 1, unfortunately, this is not the States. We won't be seeing this here in Malaysia until it's widely adopted as a standard. As it stands, Qi is relatively new. So until it's proven, they won't be widely available. 2. I've never experienced that. Maybe you've done that a lot more times than I did, so can't argue there. 3. It's yet to be seen. I'm not sure if it can provide enough power to charge multiple devices at the same time. I'll keep this in view. |
