I believe it was Tinker-Tinker. Because he keeps changing the starting eleven every week. He's a tactical genius. Miss him.

The moniker came about imho not because he was apt to make wholesale changes to the first 11 (which many other managers do) but because he would change the whole tactical approach and the way the team plays from game to game.
Not too sure if it was a good thing or a bad thing though. |

QUOTE(dillonyong @ Aug 23 2012, 09:36 AM) Possession football is also important for defense. It may not win you a match, it may save you from losing. Of course the boys have not master it correctly yet. Dont judge so quickly. Save from losing? Repeat it for 38 matches for the whole season, not to lose, aka ended up draws. You have 38 points, which is potential relegation candidate. A win is equivalent 3 draw. I prefer to win 3 matches and lose 5 matches, instead of draw 8 matches. Yes, that's what I am saying, don't judge so quickly about possession football, don't over-optimistic just because got a new manager. |

QUOTE(Petre @ Aug 22 2012, 05:22 PM) old story... Well maybe... just maybe Brendan is not looking to field an out-an-out goalscorer in the team, ala Spain's Euro team?luck... again...? we have most of the possesion and yet we lose from opponents' one chance and one goal... so its luck.. or our own making? no matter how many people put in our net, we just have to make sure we put more into theirs. football basics. we couldnt even get that right... and the trend is continuing.. until we finally get a proven goalscorer. i dont know why we cant even do the obvious. sign a goalscorer! For what it's worth, we already have a goalscorer in Luis Suarez. He could score with both his feet, head and also a decent set piece taker. However he's a player I'd imagine scores sh!t loads of goals in training but misses a whole lot more on match day. Duke brought up a good point that Suarez has no problem scoring goals in the NT but seemingly struggle when in red. The first issue with Suarez is his mentality. On the WBA match we've seen him easily nutmeg and maneuver through players but in the Premier League, defenders would have none of that. They would use all means, including physically stopping Suarez from getting through. With Suarez's height and reputation for falling easily, he's not going to get any protection from the referee. However, all that gets into his head too easily and on Saturday he talked himself into a yellow card. Whenever he gets frustrated, he misses even the simplest of chances. He needs to keep his head down and work even harder, whatever doesn't kills him will make him stronger, he will benefit a lot from the physicality of the PL. He's just a little short of being a complete world class player. Secondly, the players around Suarez. Suarez is a chance creator as much as he's a goalscorer but players around him need to spot the chances way ahead. It's easier said than done because Suarez isn't a conventional player. When you're on byline surrounded by 3 defenders, conventional wisdom tells you to find an outlet to another Red player or try to win a corner. Not Suarez, he would somehow squeeze his way through and 9 out of 10 times he would succeed. Players around him needs to spot that early and get into goal scoring positions. Maxi was very good at that, he doesn't have the pace but he sees the opportunity ahead of the defenders and thus gets a yard ahead of them. As a result, he got a number of goals from tap-ins and loose balls in the box. Borini now takes up that role and I really hope the Dempsey deal goes through because he's not just a goalscorer but a clever player. |

Apparently, the deal for Sturridge is back on again. What do you all think? I think he is good but my only concern is that he is a rather selfish player often times not passing the ball and it might be an issue considering how Rodgers' style is all about good teamwork and passing.

QUOTE(Everdying @ Aug 23 2012, 06:25 PM) all i can remember of sturridge nowadays is how he fluffed his penalty for team GB to send them crashing out... He is a decent player with great acceleration and dribbling ability BUT too selfish in my opinion. Too many times I've seen him fluffing chances when there are much better options around him. He isn't exactly prolific as well, if BR intends to play Borini wide and with Suarez better than creating than finishing off chances, wouldn't it be better to get a goalscorer than a wide forward such as Sturridge. Also he reminds me a bit of Balotelli in the sense that they are sometimes too full of themselves. |
