QUOTE(Duke Red @ Aug 22 2012, 03:48 PM)
I saw a proposed formation earlier which listed 5 actual midfielders in Henderson, Shelvey, Gerrard, Allen and Lucas. The problem with this is not only are they all better players in the centre of the park, we also do not have to pace to counterattack. Having forwards like Borini and Suarez track back to midfield at least means we'll have the pace to hit them on the counter, beating the offside trap. There is little point in chocking the midfield when we have no outlets when gaining possession of the ball. Suarez and Borini or both adept at making runs in behind defences.
*
No point having those names in midfield all at once if we plan on countering... those names are on the field if we are parking the bus.

I'd like to see Suarez-Carroll-Borini start. If both of them can supply Carroll with good balls, I'm sure we can start scoring. I dont think we're particularly bad at the back, but we all know how woeful we are up front.

would it be sweeter to beat City but lose to WBA than beat WBA and lose to City

i knoe it would be best to win both, maybe the loss to WBA give us an eye opener and we might beat City, though its tough.........

Everton can beat MU, we too can beat City

That's the same forwardline I'd go for. Carroll may not be a prolific goalscorer but he sure can be a nuisance. Also with him leading the line, it means Suarez will have more space and he wouldn't have to resort to taking rushed half chances. He could do with more time to place his shots.

We're at Anfield, I doubt we'll play it safe. Since BR mentioned he wanna turn Anfield into a fortress again. I'm expecting an open game from both sides.

Pray Reina is on top form that day and Suarez find his scoring boots.

I am a firm believer that when you fail to pick a lock you then proceed to bash the door down.

Just saying.

Ok. Something to cheer everyone up!!!
This Liverpool fan from.. well... Liverpool, told everyone in his website that Brendan Rodgers began his premier league debut last season with Swansea with a 0-4 thrashing. Look at what he achieved at the end of the season.

So we got thrashed by West Brom, hopefully history will repeat for BR and he will be all smiling comes the end of the season.

I am puzzled and do not understand why people and commentator keep on talking about Swansea. rclxub.gif

Swansea ended the season last year at 11th place with 47 points, while Liv finished at 7th.
So if history repeat, mean Liv finishing at 11th, all smiling comes the end of season? rclxub.gif

4-3-3 going forward with Gerrard supporting the front 3, with Lucas and Allen protecting the back four. Also, it means we defend high up the pitch using our fowards. Formations should not be taken at face value anyhow. A 4-3-3 attacking formation can easily morph into a 4-5-1 when being pegged back.  I just think that sitting back and inviting City forward is fatal.
*
Mate. We have a big problem here with our defense, remember? Agger is suspended and chances are, the slow legs of Carra will fill in. With Lucas, Allen, Skrtel and Carra, they will walk right over us with Tevez, Balotelli (if Aguero is unavailable), Nasri and the big Toure.

The back four needs more protection as we are lacking pace all over. Toure especially have been inspirational in organising all the attack. Someone need to stop the big man.

As much as I hate it, our best chance will come from counter attacking and free kicks, not from dominating the field upfront and leave a big gap behind with players that are suspected with lack of pace.

bro, thats cause swansea were expected to be in the relegation dog fight ma..and yet they dont really have much experience in playing in premiership..so ending the season in the middle of the table is definitely something to cheer about

Come on! Your level of understanding has to be better. I refuse to accept that you are not able to process this better than what you have just commented. Liverpool fans are smart people.

He achieved 11th spot with a miserable budget and a team of unknown in Swansea. Give him time and reasonable budget, he should perform.
I guess that's what they are trying to justify.

Reading did it before, Fulham under Roy also did it before, even progress into final in Europa cup.
So?

Yes, I don't mean BR is a good or poor manager, but I cannot understand why constantly comparing to Swansea.

The first match is a disastrous, performance wise did not convincing either.

The math is not like that. A manager can perform well with shoe-string budget in a smaller team, but come to bigger team and with bigger budget, it doesn't mean a automatically must of better performance.

giving me a ferrari doesn't exactly mean that i will be able to arrive any sooner.
arrive in more style perhaps, but i will still be a slowpoke driver and be stuck in traffic.

and iirc, we said the same about Roy, and we all know too well how that turned out.

again, just saying.

Both teams were not praised for their style of football but for their resilience in survival.
Swansea was praised for the kind of football they played which quite frankly speaking is how a football game should be. Controlling possession, passing and creativity. If football is about winning the way Stoke did against opposition team, I would switch to watching Tennis.

Barca and Real, Man U and Arsenal, Bayern - years of success build on the foundation of passing football.
Fulham - success in Europa league base on the foundation of defense and riding their luck. How many seasons did they achieved this feat? Once.

That comparison with Swansea last season's disastrous 0-4 opener was just to cheer everyone up. It doesnt mean anything.
BR has a philosophy in football that I like. So I hope he is successful and I continue to enjoy Liverpool playing possession football. Not the type of football that constantly rock me to sleep during Gerard Houllier's time in 2003.

Possession does not score you a goal, nor win you a match until someone in the team can make a decisive, creative passes/good crossing to be attacked upon, and strikers or anyone put into the net.

Liv last year had plenty of possession, plenty of passing, but history speak itself.

The 4 teams mentioned, have possession but also know to score.

Liv last year problem was all about put the ball into the net, not about not knowing how to play football nor passing issue nor not having enough possession of the ball.
This is the key problem of the team, conversion of chance made!

You have a point but last season they lost the ball on too many occasion as well which led to many goals scored against us. The policy now is, keep the ball, 6 to 7 seconds to steal the ball back and short passing. Of course we have to improve on goal conversion. Let's wait and see if Dempsey is coming. Just read that some jokers linked us to Kaka. What a total rubbish.

Arsenal’s move for Nuri Sahin has gone through after stalling over a £14m buy-out clause if they decide to make his loan deal permanent next summer.

Sportsmail revealed on Tuesday how the deal for the Real Madrid midfielder had hit a snag as Real wanted a fixed price of £14m attached to the deal if Arsenal decide to take up the option of signing the Turkey midfielder once his loan ends.

However, there seems to have been a compromise between the parties and the Gunners have finally got their man.

old story...
luck...

again...?

we have most of the possesion and yet we lose from opponents' one chance and one goal...

so its luck.. or our own making?

no matter how many people put in our net, we just have to make sure we put more into theirs. football basics. we couldnt even get that right...

and the trend is continuing.. until we finally get a proven goalscorer. i dont know why we cant even do the obvious. sign a goalscorer! doh.gif
