Apparently, the deal for Sturridge is back on again. What do you all think? I think he is good but my only concern is that he is a rather selfish player often times not passing the ball and it might be an issue considering how Rodgers' style is all about good teamwork and passing.

He is a decent player with great acceleration and dribbling ability BUT too selfish in my opinion. Too many times I've seen him fluffing chances when there are much better options around him. He isn't exactly prolific as well, if BR intends to play Borini wide and with Suarez better than creating than finishing off chances, wouldn't it be better to get a goalscorer than a wide forward such as Sturridge. Also he reminds me a bit of Balotelli in the sense that they are sometimes too full of themselves.
*
Exactly, that's why I'm not too sure if this deal is good or not. We have been lacking a real prolific striker since Torres left and I do hope we get someone prolific or rather play Borini more central than wide and see what he can do. After all, Borini is kinda in the same mould as Owen.

Welcome Sahin, goodbye adam?

Doubt there will be any players leaving, not at least until January I think. Cause Rodgers have said many times that the squad was lacking in depth and so I don't see why he would sell anyone off after saying this. If anything, he'll keep with the current squad till January transfer window then maybe offload those he don't need.

Really good game last night, it was only the second game of the season so still have time to make up for things. I'm sure Rodgers will work on those defensive mistakes on the training ground and improve things. I am very excited to see Rodgers implementing this style of football. Look much more dangerous than we did last season. Joe Allen is shaping up to be a really good player and Sterling is definitely going to light up the place in years to come. Hopefully, Borini and Suarez start banging in the goals.

sorry for my bad england. actually what rodgers told sterling? he don like his attitude?
*
Basically, he was giving a very stern advice to the younger players and Sterling said "steady" which in their context means calm down. So, Rodgers just bantai him back. It could have come off as rude la to Rodgers so he felt he need to keep Sterling in check. Haha...

Yep it irritates the hell out of me too. Against WBA, he lost the ball to a defender and was just moaning and sulking when the ball was still just few feet away from him. He didn't even put the defender on pressure, no effort to get it back. He was still pretty good tho but age has caught up with him, you see strolling around quite often these days. If Lucas wasn't injured it may be a good idea to experiment playing Allen in the Gerrard role.
*
I guess he is also just frustrated. After all, he did kind of carry Liverpool on his shoulders for many many years and now that he is older and not able to run as much he just plays it smart and instead of running so much risking injury, he just try to position himself so that when they do win the ball back he would be in a good position to launch an attack.

in other words, u saying stevie g is losing his touch?
*
Sad but true. Not that it changes how we love him. It is a fact that he is in his 30's and pretty soon we will have to deal with the idea of him retiring. Guess that's why Rodgers got in Allen and Sahin as well. They could very well take up the mantle after Gerrard retires. Gerrard is in my eyes the most complete midfielder of the past 2 decades but I also won't be frustrated that he doesn't chase back cause maybe he just can't run as much anymore.

I hope you're right that he chooses to play it smart due to positioning. But he looks knackered in games tho. He shouldn't play week in week out. I know he's important player but i rather see him at 100% in every other games instead of being at 60% - 70% in every game.
*
Agreed but I think right now Rodgers would prefer him to play every week simply because of the morale. He does give a real morale boost whenever he plays and for a squad still finding its bearings, they really need someone who can push them on no matter the situation and we all know Gerrard has that in him to suddenly transform the team spirit with 1 good play. World class players can still be match winners even if they play at 70% simply because they are born champions. Haha...

i second that. since his last injury, gerrard didnt quite become the same player he used to be. even in euro2012 he's not 100% tho he is the best player for england during the tournament. sadly we never recover since we lost alonso and masch. YNWA..
*
Yea man! I remember when I was reading about the news that Benitez wanted to buy Barry by offloading Alonso. That was just a wrong move la, Alonso is 3 times the player Barry is and although we never completed the deal Alonso felt like he wasn't wanted and left to Madrid. I just hope we don't lose any more star players in the coming seasons.

But what if you can get someone like Allen or even Shelvey (tho i don't think he's quite ready to carry the mantle) playing at 100% in the Gerrard role ? Would you still play a 70% Gerrard ? I hope BR is true to his words when he says he chooses his players based on their performance and not their stature.
*
Hahaha... Well, it depends on how he chooses to play I guess. Cause right now, I don't really know how will play with Gerrard, Sahin, Allen and Shelvey. Obviously with Lucas injured, Sahin would be the natural replacement but he's not quite the same mould. While he offers good passing and vision, I don't think he is as good as Lucas in breaking up plays which is also key to Rodgers' philosophy. Plenty of time, guess he could try and experiment putting Allen in a more advanced role and see if he does it well enough. Either way, I'm really excited with the new style.

Agreed, I guess time will tell. Plenty of options for us to try out and that's the beauty of stocking up the midfield. Such a shame to loose Lucas to another injury, all that work in pre season goes down the drain.
*
Yea. But maybe it's a blessing in disguise in the sense that Sahin will most probably be pushed into the starting eleven to cover Lucas and he might just add a new dimension to the team's play. Can't wait for the Arsenal game. I think it would be a fairly open match with both teams going at each other. Both teams need to pick up their first win and what better way to do so than to win against Arsenal!

It's going to be a good game i reckon too. Arsenal have had 2 hard games against teams that parked the bus. We will not and therefore space will open up for them but bar Lucas absence, i reckon our team will look much more balance this time around. Hopefully Enrique is back to full match fitness and we'll have Johnson back in RB. Agger will be back and hopefully Skrtel form should too. The 2 new signings Assaidi and Sahin should be ready by then. Really excited about this match.
*
I hope Assaidi would turn out to be a fairly good signing. I can't bear to watch Downing and Henderson on the flanks again. So frustrating last season. Sterling and Assaidi (if he comes good) on the flanks this season would be much better.

They need to balance the books after spending so much during the summer u know haha  laugh.gif

What u guys think about Borini so far btw?
*
Still foolish to ask that much. Borini is good in my eyes so far. Hard working, good pace, good technique and kind of a fox in the box. I think he just needs time to settle in the team.

haha nobody in their right mind would sign him for that price..and i'm sure BR has the right mind..lol

Borini works hard i agree but his first touch that day against City was somewhat poor imho..and yeah he needs time to settle..

BR looking to offload anybody before deadline? I thought I heard during the news on radio this morning that Adam and Downing might be sold..
*
I don't think he will offload any players until January. I think he will stick with the team now and see how we fare in all fronts first. Come January he might offload those he don't need and bring in more new players to strengthen the team (I think this is his plan la). Good considering we don't really have much left to spend.

if you been watching, you can tell lucas is trying hard to change his game to be more attacking minded to suit BR's style...but somehow doesnt look right tongue.gif
then again, as BR says, lucas is quite prolific from 7 yards out with no goalkeeper...so maybe he'll keep no.21 as a cup player?

and with BR's golden boy Allen around, and now Sahin about to make his debut...and of cos gerrard still around...looks like there'll be no space for no.21 in the first 11.
*
The beauty of the midfield is that he is a better defensive player. The team would just suffer if all 3 midfielders were more attack minded players going forward whenever we have possession. Someone has to stay behind and protect the back four in case of a quick counter. It's not a position as glamorous as others but it is a very very important aspect of any team. It can get really difficult for teams when you don't have this kind of player as evident in Liverpool's fortunes last season after "No. 21" got injured. Sahin is a deep-lying playmaker not as good a defensive midfielder as Lucas. It'd be stupid to sell Lucas.

with Lucas out, our strongest mid IMO Allen-Sahin-Gerrard

Definitely. Sahin as a deep-lying playmaker, Allen as the central like Xavi recycling possession and Gerrard using his experience and awareness in and around the box. On paper it sure does look formidable. Let's hope they gel and play well together.
