guys, dont be too excited to be hired with Shell.. you are only hired as a graduate, but that dosent mean you will have a job even after you are done with the Graduate programme. its not a firm job and the term "last in first out" applies here too.. if i were you guys, i would avoid joining ONG now. good luck.

Fair assessment. Having said that I can imagine there is still a lot of 'star power' when it comes to Shell, i mean it looks great on one's CV no?

O&G is in the doldrums but for a graduate they wouldn't really care

Hey Guys, anyone applied for Shell Graduate Program recently? I applied and got a phone interview 2 weeks ago but no response from them since then. In any case, does Shell still have downstream activities in Malaysia? Since I'm in Peninsula and I got a phone interview, I reckon they are hiring for West Malaysia.

the brand by itself is a very appealing attraction to other employers if it's in your CV. with the right skills you have, you wont be short of employer shortlisting you for a position. (provided you apply relevant and correct job that is align with your skills)

else, after retrenchment, you will be jobless and start creating new accounts here to goyang kaki and biji thumbup.gif

It's quite pity come to think about these group of people....

I wonder of Shell Graduate Program is still worthwhile to venture into at this time given the volatility of the industry. I do know of people who graduated from the program and they are doing very well for themselves. Shell is now the 3rd preferred employer for Malaysians based on jobstreet survey :

https://www.jobstreet.com.my/career-resourc...k/#.WUNTUcawfIU

I suppose it is moving towards becoming a more resilient company that will continue to appeal to employee.

what i can say is that it is just not used to be as appealing compared to the USD120 days. there are other employers that you can choose from instead of just narrowly looking at joining ONG. Truthfully, ONG industry is a 20th century industry, about to be overtaken by renewable in the very soon future. If you are a fresh grad, look elsewhere to start your careers instead of ONG for a brighter future.

I'd tend to agree that O&G has lost some appeal ever since the oil market crash. Though most of veterans in the industry would say the crash is just part of a cycle that happens every certain years, this recent crash has made renewables seems prominent.

That being said, as someone who is in the energy industry(not O&G), I'd say renewables still need a big momentum before it could take the dominance of fossil fuels. We in South East Asia especially, have the usage of fossil fuels deeply embedded in our grid, it will take a long time before we could actually see a significant change towards renewables. The good weather that we are blessed with is also an inhibiting factor to drive renewables like solar as it is more economically profitable to do farming on per square feet of land as compared to cover it with solar panels.

However, my views are based on perceptions and my experience, since there is no actual nor meaningful research data/studies, all I can say is that I stand to be corrected. I know a few O&G companies who are already investing on renewables.

Not sure how it is in Malaysia, but Shell does have some global initiatives venturing into solar and wind farm tech leveraging their offshore skills. It is a fact that O&G will become obsolete eventually but nobody really knows exactly when, and until that time the O&G industry will still be going strong.

I do know for a fact that Shell is still recruiting grads as I am a part of this process currently, their reasoning is to keep a healthy pipeline of talent for the future. All this talk about how attractive an employer is during a commodity downturn - if the remuneration and development opportunities are still competitive, Shell would handily beat down any other employer in Malaysia in terms of attractiveness for fresh grads...regardless of downturn or not.

Lol decided to surf around and found back this thread. I had a phone interview similar to you around that time and was green light to the final stage at miri.

But a week before the travels, shell requested postponement due to logistics problem and will update with me further.

I never heard from them since until today.

Anybody wanna share their CV/resume or rather list of factors that you think made shell hire you as a fresh grad?

Well not gonna share my resume for obvious reasons, but for me I feel the sticking point that made my application+interview performances successful was confidence in my ability to pick up the necessary technical skills for the job and my ability to fit into the team & integrate into Shell culture on an interpersonal level. AND of course more importantly, how effective I was in relaying this message across to them.

They definitely do not care much about your technical skills. I was not asked any challenging technical questions - it was 99% situational and behavioral assessments.

Not sure if this is true for all applicants across all disciplines in shell. If you're referring to those shared services support functions in SBO then maybe yes.
I myself haven't heard a word from them despite having completed and passed their Assessed Internship successfully since March 2017.
