Hey Guys, anyone applied for Shell Graduate Program recently? I applied and got a phone interview 2 weeks ago but no response from them since then. In any case, does Shell still have downstream activities in Malaysia? Since I'm in Peninsula and I got a phone interview, I reckon they are hiring for West Malaysia.

I wonder of Shell Graduate Program is still worthwhile to venture into at this time given the volatility of the industry. I do know of people who graduated from the program and they are doing very well for themselves. Shell is now the 3rd preferred employer for Malaysians based on jobstreet survey :

I suppose it is moving towards becoming a more resilient company that will continue to appeal to employee.

I'd tend to agree that O&G has lost some appeal ever since the oil market crash. Though most of veterans in the industry would say the crash is just part of a cycle that happens every certain years, this recent crash has made renewables seems prominent.

That being said, as someone who is in the energy industry(not O&G), I'd say renewables still need a big momentum before it could take the dominance of fossil fuels. We in South East Asia especially, have the usage of fossil fuels deeply embedded in our grid, it will take a long time before we could actually see a significant change towards renewables. The good weather that we are blessed with is also an inhibiting factor to drive renewables like solar as it is more economically profitable to do farming on per square feet of land as compared to cover it with solar panels.

However, my views are based on perceptions and my experience, since there is no actual nor meaningful research data/studies, all I can say is that I stand to be corrected. I know a few O&G companies who are already investing on renewables.
