You know how many satellites serving DirecTV? (Hint: their dish has 4-5 LNB and is oblong in shape). How many satellites serving Assteruk? (Hint: two of our MEASAT satellites, including MEASAT-1 which should rightfully be considered a national heritage, was sold off/leased to South Africa instead of being used to provide more bandwidth...).

Furthermore, aside from at least three dozen cable TV and IPTV providers, they have a real competing satellite TV provider- Dish Networks. Because of the competition they have to keep creating new features to attract subscribers.

Assteruk? Government backed monopoly in the satellite TV market, and the other providers are pretty much no match due to their structure/stupidity, made assteruk extremely arrogant and unwilling to listen to subscribers. MegaTV died because they didn't evolve to compete with assteruk. MITV got squashed because assteruk made a deadly move of offering their decoder FOC with sign up as soon as MITV came out, which MITV cannot risk doing cause they stupidly put all their capital into R&D for a strange proprietary IPTV-over-DVB-T decoder instead of going for something that's already readily available. DETV is still alive, but because of their offering they're only popular among Chinese folks who usually keep it as a second decoder for channels that assteruk dun have. FineTV died because of stupidity of overpricing and not enough content (half a dozen channels of in-house local crap? Laughable). TM IPTV? Good channel offering, but lousy rollout speed and cannot unbundle IPTV for TV channels only. And lastly, ABN is still awfully silent...

Just got off the phone with Astro Cust. Service- I enquired about channel listing. So I was watching Cartoon Network (CN) and bam- commercial comes on and says "Cartoon Network is now available in HD; contact your local cable operator for details".

So I went on the Astro Twitter page (@astroonline) and asked about CN in HD. I got a reply asking if I was subscribed to Fun pack and HD service, and saying please call Cust. Service to get it.

Therefore I did, and the girl said "Sorry sir, I can't find that channel in all our listings. However, there is a new HD channel for Fun pack: Disney XD in high-def." Apparently it starts from 1/9 onwards on CH637.

Not what I wanted, but at least I got something la. Not a total loss, I guess. And they even gave me Astro's Marketing dept.'s no. to enquire more about CN HD. dry.gif

PS. I asked about why FMP HD no subtitles, but FMP SD and Sundance HD got; the girl said that it's like that la, cannot do anything. What even. grumble.gif

I hope CN HD ends up on TM. Imo Assteruk is not qualified to carry childrens channel given their prejudice.

I've already talked to TM about CN HD long time ago, as soon as it's announced that Aora TV Indonesia has become the first provider to carry CN HD. TM claims they're working on it. I hope they're telling the truth. Because I do NOT want to see Assteruk carrying CN HD- they'll just rape the channel left and right. I expect Disney XD to be raped and injected with local rubbish once Assteruk gets their hands on the channel. Just like what they did to Disney Channel.

Besides, Assteruk will force my aunt into upgrading to Bae Yong and paying for HD (which she doesn't need, her TV is still a 15 years old CRT TV) before they'll let her see channel. TM doesn't have this BS, each channel is ala-carte. And oh, don't need to pay extra to have HDMI activated either. I may have terminated Assteruk, but my aunt still has it. Because my grandparents have been hopelessly hypnotized by the Chinese drama channels.

Hello guys. I just found this thread as i google my pvr problem. I just realized just now that my pvr not working anymore. Maybe because last week i turn of the astro and pull out the smartcard (doing some house cleaning..stupid me). When this happened, i do all the step by step from the installation guided book. Then appear "Your USB...bla..not enough storage..bla...to use this functionality". Maybe because got few movies been recorded and stored inside it already. Then everytime i click R (record) button it show no pvr like i dont plug the pvr correctly which i already did. I don't know if you understand or not. I'm screw now. Scared later my parent will scold me liao. Do i need to call astro or got manual solution? Thank you so much! notworthy.gif

No guarantees... you can try this to see if it can help solve your problem....

1) Switch off power to the old Astro decoder box, not standby.

2) Remove the smartcard. Use a clean cotton cloth and slightly wet it with clean water. Then clean the smartcard SIM area as shown in circle from picture below (click spoilers)...
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

3) Also, inserting the smartcard in the wrong direction can cause problem so make sure its correctly inserted. IF the SIM area is bottom when you remove it, then re-insert back the smartcard in the same direction with SIM area at bottom.

I have 3 decoders, 2 old Astro box and 1 Byond box. My Dad sometimes have the same "service is currently not available" problem so I removed the smartcard, cleaned it with special "Contact 90" chemical (Made In Germany) which dissolves oil and dirt and also dries quickly without corroding the surface. After cleaning it, no more problem. I did it twice in about 2 years ! Warning... never clean with alcohol, kerosene or any normal cleaning chemical that can dissolve or "attack" the plastic smartcard !!!

If you have already tried cleaning the smartcard before and found that it did NOT help, then "maybe" your old Astro box got internal problem.

I am not sure if your Astro box is spoilt or not BUT if you are willing to risk wasting your RM 100, then you can try buying the old Astro box from others... search for Astro dealers or TV/HiFi shops in your area because I believe there are shops that do sell your old Astro box (new unit). You can also find people selling it in Lowyat.net too... example... "http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=2479296&hl=astro+decoder+for+sale... I don't know this person so I am not responsible for any risks.

When you decide to buy, try to find a newer model for the old Astro box as shown in sample picture below (click spoilers)...
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Also, please don't blame me if you wasted your money after buying the old Astro box from others and then found that the same problem still exist !! Remember, its your decision because I am just giving my suggestion only.

Note: I believe that you already know that the smartcards can be used on any old Astro box... BUT for the new Byond box smartcard, it is locked and cannot be used on other Byond box or old Astro box (no sharing).

Can somebody tell ASTRO to remove the compulsory subtitle in channel 702 - diva universal ?

All the other channels in 7xx has no subtitle except this channel which clutters up the screen.

Subtitle should be optional for pay tv.

Hi.  I am new to this forum.  I wonder if anyone else is experiencing a problem which I am currently having.  Would appreciate if someone can share the solution.

I am subscribed to Astro Byond with HD.  After recording any HD show on the PVR, and playing back to watch, I experienced frequent interruption to the show.  The show just freezes like it went into pause, then resume.  The interruption can be very frequent, about 10 to 20 times in an hour show.  Each interruption can last for about 2 seconds to even about 2 minutes.

This problem did not arise when I got the PVR in Feb 2011.  It’s only started about 3 months ago.   I wonder why this is so.  The hard disc is only about 25% recorded.
*
I encountered the same situation.

It means your hard disk is going to go bust soon in one or two months time.

That's what happened to my hard disk after one year and the stupid astro came and replaced everything ie. new recorder and hard disk !

I couldn't even watch or retrieve all my past recorded programs. cry.gif

Hi, anyone knows is it possible to get a bigger dish.
The standard astro dish is 60cm diameter, just wondering can we get a (maybe) 90cm dish so that less often signal loss during heavy rain.

Dear God, I want CN HD to be on Astro but I REALLY don't want it to end up like Disney. Disney wasn't like how it was in my childhood, now I prefer CN and Nick where I used to like Disney. I blame Astro. Cangkuls the lot of them. Though, my dad isn't going to pay for Astro and Streamyx. It has to be either- right now it's Astro since it's slightly better in channel selections. And because of sports. Of course.
