Hi guys, i see that in the astro byond hd page, it says "Broadcasting at 720p and 1080i".
does it mean that if i buy a 51" full HD plasma, i still won't get the pictures from astro beyond to show at 1920x1080?
planning to the tv for parents and they watch astro mostly and some DVDs. should i spend the money for full hd 51" or just get a hd ready 51"? price difference is around rm700

not looking to upgrade in near future, so the tv should last us at least 3 years or more. which would you all advice me to go for?
*
If the RM700 is not a prob, suggest yu go for FHD...
Who knows when yu might need the feature? Eg using a BluRay player 2watch BluRay discs?
By so doing, there'll be NO regrets... tongue.gif

Btw fyi 1080i is NOT really Full HD...
It's wat's known as Interlaced Mode.

IINM there's no Sat/terrestrial transmission which uses TRUE FULL HD....ie 1080p.... tongue.gif

QUOTE(RAMChYLD @ Aug 25 2012, 01:56 AM)
You know how many satellites serving DirecTV? (Hint: their dish has 4-5 LNB and is oblong in shape). How many satellites serving Assteruk? (Hint: two of our MEASAT satellites, including MEASAT-1 which should rightfully be considered a national heritage, was sold off/leased to South Africa instead of being used to provide more bandwidth...).

Furthermore, aside from at least three dozen cable TV and IPTV providers, they have a real competing satellite TV provider- Dish Networks. Because of the competition they have to keep creating new features to attract subscribers.

Assteruk? Government backed monopoly in the satellite TV market, and the other providers are pretty much no match due to their structure/stupidity, made assteruk extremely arrogant and unwilling to listen to subscribers. MegaTV died because they didn't evolve to compete with assteruk. MITV got squashed because assteruk made a deadly move of offering their decoder FOC with sign up as soon as MITV came out, which MITV cannot risk doing cause they stupidly put all their capital into R&D for a strange proprietary IPTV-over-DVB-T decoder instead of going for something that's already readily available. DETV is still alive, but because of their offering they're only popular among Chinese folks who usually keep it as a second decoder for channels that assteruk dun have. FineTV died because of stupidity of overpricing and not enough content (half a dozen channels of in-house local crap? Laughable). TM IPTV? Good channel offering, but lousy rollout speed and cannot unbundle IPTV for TV channels only. And lastly, ABN is still awfully silent...

Can you check what's the signal strength from your STB? I noticed that when the signal strength is low, some HD channel quality will be grainier. After I re-adjust the satelite dish myself and installed in-line amplifier, the grainy picture is no more. Previously my signal strength is just around 42db. Now I around 70db.
*
Hi Bro... notworthy.gif
Can pls rec the in-line amp yu used?
Might help boost signal in my case, too...

Hi Bro... notworthy.gif
Fyi me juz tried changing Sat Settings to User Defined #1.
However, there is even a drop in Signal Strength (only 146) in my case...as probly due2 wat yu mentioned above. sad.gif

Consequently, me hv reverted to ori settings ie giving me values of abt 156/154. tongue.gif

Does the abv mean the Sat Dish needs 2b re-aligned? TQ.

You have to find 'ur own best setting of it... That means, trying every setting 'till you get the highest signal available. smile.gif
*
Hv tried a no. of the listed settings since PVR installed.
Got weary of trying...so stopped...until saw yr suggestion 2use the User Defined #1.
Will expt with some more in my free time. TQ.

Frankly din see if Installer used any Sat tracking instrument then. Most probly he juz used neighbours' Sat dishes as a guide only!! rclxub.gif
Sometimes wonder if worth expenses 2pay Installer 2re-adjust Sat Dish?
Any comments, pls? TQ.

QUOTE(willkso @ Oct 29 2012, 08:38 PM)
I'm not sure if this helps but my Byond(non PVR) by default was selecting entry point 1 in 'Installation Setting -> Satelite' but I changed it to point 13(measat 3A). Signal went from ~ 170 to 244 but at least my ESPN HD was watchable now. Was keep getting 'Raining, No signal' before that on ESPN HD channel. The rest of the HD channel no problem though with entry point 1.

Saw some discussion before about the entry point before but can't really recall.
*
Thks a meg, Bro, 4yr suggestion abv !! notworthy.gif

I've tried practically all the other Entry Points listed in Sat Install'n Settings. All gave lower Signal Strength than Entry Point #1 (156 -158 fluctuating with lowest @154/154 ). sad.gif

Entry Pt #13 & abv are supposed 2b 4Measat 3A (which me rber reading somewhere) is for mainly HD Channels. However becoz both Sats are close 2each other, appears diff is negligible/insignificant. tongue.gif

Latest me tried was the User Defined wan. Pls see earlier posts.
Gave me almost same results as #1 ie 154/154.

Btw Sig Strength values are diff for Byond Decoders & PVR....probly coz diff units used.

Added on October 29, 2012, 10:32 pmps. Gotta kinda feeling that Signal Strength is affected by our individual locations eg Northern, Central or Southern....dun really kno....

The difference in Signal Strength was very obvious with the old Decoders...compared readings between mine & frens/relatives in Penang. Btw me am way up North.... tongue.gif

So cld it be similarly affected with the Byond Std/PVR Decoders? rolleyes.gif
