I'm on a 2G area. Logging into facebook and Google (Gmail) is 100% fine. Slow but fine.

@Eiraku
Ah... as much as we love unibody builds(I practically drooled over the N9 when it first came out and I held it so carefully in my hand; and those Lumias 800/900)... I think it'll be a bomb. I wouldn't want it to be aluminium or metal though cause the waves would be killa~ but the polycarb on the nokia devices.. still, I would say Nokia still makes the BEST hardware of all.
*
Doubt about it, one of the reason Nokia fail long time ago as Nokia put in crappy hardware after the end of N95. Nokia simply use all old hardware spec during beginning of Symbian Touch OS.

Sifus need to ask freezing apps in Titanium back up is good or adb? Google show a lot of people using adb but some say Titanium does the job, any advise. Thanks.

just to share with others in regards to the status of the variants of the samsung galaxy sIII situation hmm.gif

QUOTE
Each summer the world celebrates a time of warmth, fun and relaxation. For the tech community, however, it's traditionally the season in which Samsung unleashes the latest version of its Galaxy S flagship.

But the now time-honored tradition is actually more of a one-two punch: first the unlocked international model is revealed, and later it's followed up by a litany of worldwide variants.

US carriers intent on offering the "value" of differentiation to their customers have been the worst offenders in modifying Sammy's magic formula, ranging from motley form factors to egregious bloatware to clumsy naming schemes (Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch quickly comes to mind).

But Samsung's brand cachet has grown year over year, so much so that the company is starting to wield more power over carriers. No weird names, no exclusive agreements and no changes to the form factor.

That's right, six carriers have signed up to carry the Galaxy S III so far, and every single one of these devices looks exactly the way Samsung intended, with the only major exceptions being the processor and memory allotment.

So far we've had the opportunity to play with two of the six: AT&T's and Sprint's. How close to the original GS III (also known as the GT-I9300) do these devices come? What advantages and disadvantages does each bring to the table?

Can you expect comparable performance? Stay with us as we break it all down.

I would like to see more reviews like this, especially from the LYN community, seeing as in the near future, there will be a new incoming S3 variant coming doh.gif

i'm not against variants of the S3, but only if these changes give better hardware specs, and also making them available in our local markets, and also being easier to differentiate which one we are getting.

The malaysian market has the international model aka the GT-I9300 i believe.

don't think the global model will be affected by this...

the ones who should worry are those in the US, where different providers got diff models

well based on the s3 international we got, the pros and cons are as follows.

malaysia international s3

pro:
- has quad core cpu (Samsung Exynos 4 Quad @ 1.4 GHz)
- has more storage space support options. 16 / 32 / 64 GB NAND, microSD

con:
- only has 1 GB ram
- HSPA+ 21.1 (Intel XMM6262). meaning that the LTE 4g feature is missing. however considering Malaysia only support hspa to begin with, so it's not like your losing anything based on the current situation, but i consider this a con in regards to future proofing, because when malaysia does have 4g, your device won't have the hardware to support it hmm.gif interesting to note that HSPA+ is capped at 21 Mbit/s network speed, whereas LTE 4g is maxed out at 100 Mbit/s. To put things into perspective, malaysia's unifi 10 mbps = 1.2 Mbit/s, and the unifi 20 mbps is 2.4 Mbit/s. if your interested to know more about hspa + vs lte 4g, then this article over at engadget does a really good job explaining it.

other variants

pro:
- most non international variants have the LTE 4g. the benefits of this is as explained above. however another lyn member did mention that even if your device does have lte 4g, and malaysia does in the future provide 4g, it may not necessarily work because of incompatible hardware. so more research needs to be done in that regard.

cons:
- fewer storage space options. 16 / 32 GB NAND, microSD
- has a dual core cpu ( Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8960 @ 1.5 GHz). you will need to check the reviews online comparing the cpu benchmark, but i would think that quad core cpu makes processing 1080p/720p much more efficient and better.

there are also physical differences in terms of features such as the screenshot below, but i'm not going to get into that, but if your interested to read more then go to this at&t vs sprint engadget comparison review. The malaysia S3 should look like the one on the right i believe brows.gif

another thing is the google wallet only found in either the sprint variant, or an unlocked international s3 that is rooted.

If i had to say which variant is the best, i would probably say the south korean SHV-E210K/L/S assuming that the 4g lte would work in malaysia in the future. the only difference between the malaysian and sk version other than the lte 4g, is also that the sk has 2gb vs the malaysian 1gb ram.

however i don't know the price difference between the 2 hmm.gif and that + availability is really what the consumer is going to be looking at seeing the difference between the sk and malaysia version is almost trivial ;x
