anyone here using otterbox or any version or high end case for your mobile? care to feedback on it?is it worth buying?
*
No Otterbox becoz the silly-cone stretches BAD - it's well worth the protection it if you don't pull it out of the case often and don't mind the lint and dust that silly-cone attracts. CaseMate Tough is another good bet.

I have the Tech21 Impact Mesh and SGP Neo Hybrid on order though. Will quick review as soon as they arrive.

Again. Ehem. White 16GB SGS3 for sale?

Actually, people, if we NAND backup into extSD, and stuff it into a new S3 - you can (theoretically) restore everything (on the new phone) once you have CWM running, right?

Support your developers. An app or game costs about the costs of RM 3 to RM10. About a starbucks drink. Surely after buying a 1.8k phone u can afford to support the developers. If you dont support them, they cant make a living, they cant make a living, they change job stop developing. Then no more cool updates and no new developers will wanna make new stuff for u.

Just like supporting the environment, every little bit counts
*
Really.

But heck, Malaysians in general don't think far beyond the present lol. Free now is all that counts.

Plus phone sellers "pamper" them with "free software" (sic) all the time when they buy phones. You think things are gonna change any time soon?

Software as something "worth" paying for is a relatively alien concept for Malaysians it seems.

lol go easy on that guy.. he simply doesn't know how Android works. Iphone apps require you to pay while they are free on Android. like Angry birds. so you basically get more free apps on the android market without Rooting your phone. go grab Dead Trigger for free now.

Apps that u think you like and u can afford you pay for them.
I paid for PowerAmp and Cerberus <-- this thing is a mind blowing anti theft app. 3USD insurance for a 2k phone  rclxms.gif

Agreed on Ceberus. It even sends me emails of my sleepy face in the mornings when I screw up my lockscreen passwords lol.

owh then thats actually pretty bad lol.

i highly recommend GlasT, which unfortunately isnt out for S3 yet. glass is less of a finger oil magnet than any plastic u use, no matter the oleophobic claim
*
I'm eagerly waiting for a GlasT. In black.

If you can live with other colours, white and blue glass protectors already available here by Xgear: http://bit.ly/M6JzOK

in black? GlasT got no colour bro. After S2 AFAIK the GlasT are all clear, and using silicone glue
*
I came from the ORIGINAL Glas so IDK that lol.

The Xgear Spectre Glass protectors are coloured though - white and blue.

Shame if they ever came up with the S3 Glas T, I'm gonna have to stick an Optics (or something) on top just to get rid of the glossiness lol. Talk about Overkill.

Don't worry.. reminds me the time I bought my SII when it first came out... RM2099 hard cash.

Then... suddenly price drops to RM1899 and then a sea of people holding it. Literally everyone had it...

Same with the SIII now... bought it like a few weeks ago, then POOF** now 1 fella in school having one also... another teacher ordered it. 2 more teachers looking forward to buy it.

Like buying veggie from pasar
*
I feel you bro. I feel you.

Same case over here regarding the S2. Paid launch price, then POOF.

Thankfully, right now most of the guys over here seem really satisfied with their S2s, Notes and Nexuses. So I guess I have another half-year of being "cutting edge" (lol).

It helps that - to non-nerds - there's actually really little to be "wowed" over with the S3 vs the S2/Note. Quad-core? Pfft. Dual core enough edi. HD screen? Pfft. Note got asso, bigger wan summore.

ICS. S2, Note got.
8MP cam. S2, Note got.
1GB RAM. S2, Note got.

Even if the S3 gets cheaper, the S2 and Note will get cheaper still and people (aka the "general, sensible public") will buy that.

Like me, I upgraded for the Wolfson DAC lol. I doubt normal people would be that crazy liberal with their finances UNLESS they are a habitual upgrader - which there's actually a lot of out there - or like me, they have a specific niggle with the S2/Note/Nexus that FORCES them to upgrade.

@ZeneticX: You have to repackage manually from Wanamlite ROM, IINM there's no CWM zip for JUST the kernel. Not that I've seen.

But yeah the "Wanam" kernel is effing smooth. It's like butter through FPSE when Siyah would just stutter. And battery life ain't bad at all.

I miss the audio tweaks of Siyah but, heck, I like me butter more.

I think you misunderstood... they're all teachers. Not students. hehehe.

But still, what you said is true. Kids these days holding iPhones and iPads like nobody's business. I think kids are more into those iPhones and iPads thanks to all the skins and covers available for them which makes them seem trendier.

I too will not indulge my kids to such fancy. Even if I'm doing it for myself. icon_rolleyes.gif

Buy flagship smartphones at launch price. 2 years in a row.

Yes we are indulgent indeed for what we do lol... brows.gif

Such is the curse of the gadget-head... cry.gif

Actually hor, a considerable number of my students over here are QUITE into Android and modding. Which is interesting, seeing them dwelve into XDA to find ways to root and new custom ROMs for their Aces, Ys and Ws.

And we're talking Kuala Lipis here. Which is relatively ulu you know.

Profiles? Tasker. Accept nothing less.

It's a biatch to learn though. But it does very well as a Profiles + Scheduler + Juice Defender app. In a way, the one app to rule them all.

Most apps bro, most apps.

Logmein is RM90++. FF3 is RM30++.

brows.gif

@DarkAngel: Dun be like me during my iPong days. RM1K on Apps.

In a month.

2 months after that, lose iDevice.

Buy Android. Buy more apps (albeit at a less frantic pace).

doh.gif doh.gif doh.gif

A shame I'm not attracted at all to the current crop of iDevices lol. At least my conscience is clear (somewhat), and I have iFamily members.

Also, WHY THE FECK IS GOOGLE MUSIC NOT ACCESSIBLE IN MALAYSIA.

Well other than google music, the stuff you mentioned have become available in a number of first world countries like Australia,UK, Canada, France etc. I can install and use them right now without any modifications to my system XP

Problem with bringing them into Malaysia and even outside of the US into other first world countries is mainly licensing issues. I doubt you'll see them in Malaysia in the very near future.
*
That's the thing.

I can see stuff fine (with VPN and Market Enabler of course), but I can't buy em, particularly music. Maybe I should get a US credit card, a virtual one perhaps.

QUOTE(chester91 @ Jul 25 2012, 01:32 AM)
wow the s3 thread has reach v15...  i did post this question in the earlier threads i think in v3 when i just got my phone but have since not been up to date with the threads.

just wondering is it possible to run the phone on edge only instead of 3g. For example jailbroken iphone users are able to on edge and off 3g using the bossprefs app. i wan to be able to do this as the 3g is really draining the battery of the phone. at v15 and about 2 months of the phone being in the market has anyone have any unrooted solution to this?

thanks for your time..
*
Well, my friend. After 2 years, 1 OS Update and only god knows how many thread versions, an S2 can't do this either without going into settings.

Rooted or otherwise. IINM lah.

It'll be geng if I can simply tell my tasker to switch to EDGE while screen is off.

BUT, if my previous experiences with EDGE in Malaysia holds true, you will DEFINITELY drop calls if an EDGE data connection is active when somebody is calling you.

I had that issue with my old N900 AND my old iPhone 4. Has to do with the data switching implementation of EDGE locally (at least with Celcom) - it gives more priority to data over voice. Not ALL the time, but MOST of the time.

The S3 does this too to my experience. Active EDGE connection --> incoming calls get sent straight to voicemail.

PLUS EDGE gives my shittily shielded speakers the dreaded TENET TENET TENET sound, which pisses the hell out of me.

SOOOOOO, to answer your question, no. There hasn't been an easy way to toggle 3G/EDGE since GingerBread IINM, for any Android device.

Instead, get Juice Defender or Green Power and get power savings sans dropped calls. You will still get periodic data polling too, so your emails and whatsapps will come in (albeit somewhat slower).
