Wow so unlocking the bootloader uninstalls ALL apps on the phone?!! shocking.gif I was considering buying this but with knowing this now, no way shakehead.gif also warranty is void if i use the OFFICIAL unlocking tool? mega_shok.gif sony's really trying its best to "support" it's fans/developer community.

Sony fan like me can use sony phone without needed to unlock the bootloader.

says who? htc, motorola and others release their unlocked bootloaders and warranties aren't voided. warranties are voided only when u root the phone which is different from unlocking the bootloader. more so they dont uninstall existing apps when u unlock the bootloader.

So I guess you need to buy htc or motorola BUT....

you may need to read this 1st

http://www.jayceooi.com/2012/07/18/unlock-...anty-confirmed/
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1730575

http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Motorola_...ll_Update_Guide
http://developer.motorola.com/products/bootloader/legal/

apparently... not me saying that...

and I only say 'Sony fan like me can use sony phone without needed to unlock the bootloader.'

Is not important to unlock the bootloader to make the phone work perfectly.

GOT IT... doh.gif

ADD-ON (from motorola)

QUOTE
What happened to my DRM-protected content after unlocking?

Content that requires Digital Rights Management (DRM) will not be available if the device is unlocked. This content is only enabled when the bootloader is in a locked state and when the device is running the original software as shipped by Motorola. When the device is re-locked and running the original software image, these capabilities will become available again.

Did i say that the phone needs to be unlocked for it to work perfectly?

I'm not trying to start a war/argument here but please READ through the links you just posted yourself before posting them..
from the xda link regarding htc no where in section 7 does it say it will be voided by unlocking the bootloader. on the jayceooi link in the comments section Hmmm i think is true for most android phones? Warranty void when rooting, custom rom.. etc

you’re right jayce..

sony's warranty voidance is applying to BOTH SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE (read the link posted by junsheng) ... i went to sony center in times square get the xperia ion cos i read in a topic here that it was available in malaysia, i got there and the attendant told me that only the xperia s was available i didn't want to buy b'cos i didn't know anything about it. i decided to check here first for opinions and someone is saying that unlocking his bootloader wiped all his apps. and then in addition warranty voided for both hardware and software? I like to have my bootloader unlocked so that i can try stuff with my phone.. if i wanted a "prison" phone then yes that won't be an issue now would it? doh.gif different strokes for different folks... i'm glad this forum exists as i now know not to get the phone, is that a bad thing?

And , most of the phone after 2011 is come with locked bootloader .

Would it be fair to say that you dont use your phone much? that means you just leave it sleep mode most of the time?

i say this because the screen is by far the most power consuming component, and if it can be almost the same level with the cell standby that uses relatively far less power, then you are just showing mainly standby time.
