I am not planning to play in school. I want a laptop so that I could get more portability. I just want to record notes or maybe do some homework in school only. sad.gif

bring your power brick along if you so worry about the battery. since you have the cash, why you no choose option for 2nd battery or a high capacity power bank?

Illegear don't have the second battery option. And I didn't enroll in the school before. So, I not sure whether are there any plugs near the seat I am going to be given.
I think I should get M17X ba.. Will earn money and buy from illegear in the future after I finished my studies. Currently need more battery life and gaming laptop. Haiz.. If RX17 can last longer, then I would definitely get it. sad.gif

Yes I do agreed that students need more battery life. We do sell 2nd Battery, although it is not stated online.

Apart from battery life, you should take weight into serious consideration if you want to bring it to school.

Alienware M17X - 4.3kg to 5.4kg depending on configuration
RX-17 - Starting 3.9Kg with battery pack

Anyway, thanks for ever considering our system tongue.gif

Hm.. I don't really care about the weight(Imma macho, haha, just kidding) cuz Eventhough RX17 was given with 2 batteries, I don't think it could match a single M17X's battery(that's the sad part) sad.gif
I really want to get RX17 but in the school I entering, I might need to use up to a couple of hours, around 3-4 hours.

Hmm..., Battery life of RX17 (8-cell) vs M17X (9-cell).
Does it make a lot of difference? I'm not sure tongue.gif
But definitely two RX17 batteries > one M17X battery, in terms of both battery life and weight :]

RX17 is dual GPU while M17x is single GPU.
So, battery life M17x is the clear winner. dual 7970 can last around 2-2.5hours while M17x can last around 4 hours with single battery. sad.gif
Though, 2 batteries. Not sure. Maybe can do? Though not recommended as I will taking down notes in class. Lol..

Ah Okay, I got it now. The RX17 comes with a dual GPU.

Hmm..., you can always choose RS17. I know RS17 has issue with AMD Enduro stuff but you can always choose the GTX680M, unless it is necessary for you to go for AMD? As far as I know Nvidia Optimus has been around for quite some time already compared to AMD Enduro. So, I dare enough to say that Nvidia Optimus technology is more mature than AMD Enduro technology, no?

Besides GTX680M, you can still have a LCD matte screen. For some people, they might have issue with reflective (Glossy) screen, therefore matte screen is good option. But I think for portability and at the same time for the power, RS15 would do fine because you can always get rid of the dvd rom and replace it with another HDD. Rarely using dvd rom these days.

If I want to take RS17, I would rather take M17X due to the chassis. I like AW's chassis, but if there are something more powerful than the specs, then I would go for it. Clearly, RS17 is about the same specs as M17x, no? O.O

With the same price, you can definitely get better spec in RS17 than M17X. You can actually compare these 2 because both come with single GPU only.
But, seeing your budget of RM 15k in the other post, I think you can just max everything in M17X。
Personally, I still feel that Sager/Clevo/Illegear is more affordable than Alienware.
I for one won't go for an alienware because I like plain design and keeping low profile. flex.gif

same here but i have no choice but to choose alienware as my destined laptop, as sager's keyboard is crappy like i have to slam the keyboard to register the key.

if sager has better changes, i think i could change my mind.

Quick question... Would keeping a battery in storage for a year degrade it in anyway? Would it be dangerous if I plug it back into my laptop and charge it (never remove the power supply until I turn off the laptop)? It's been a year+ since the battery has been in the laptop. I stored it in its own box in my drawer at home and before I removed it, it had 40% left.

Hope you guys can help me with this. Thanks a lot. biggrin.gif

1. storing a year with charged power will degrade eventually. the battery have to be used sometimes, just try not to use below 30% (my recommendation).
2. its not dangerous.

Thanks for your reply. Now I have a new issue. I think one of the RAM slot is dead. Just before the Windows logo shows, the laptop shuts itself down. I removed one RAM and the thing works like a charm. Any ideas how to fix it?

Try test all RAM slots one by one, and see which one is faulty.
Test your RAM as well just in case one of your RAM is dead.
